All UEFA Europa League Winners updated 1972 to 2024
The UEFA Europa League, the second most important club competition in Europe, began in 1971 under the name of the UEFA Cup. The competition was created to offer an opportunity for clubs that did not qualify for the European Champions Cup (currently the Champions League) to compete for a continental title.
Over the years, the Europa League has become a highly prestigious tournament, with traditional teams such as Sevilla, Inter Milan and Liverpool lifting the trophy.
In 2009, the UEFA Cup was renamed the UEFA Europa League, with the introduction of a new group stage and a more modern format. The change was a success and the Europa League established itself as one of the main football competitions in the world.
