It was an immediate fight on UFC 283 in Brazil against a contender, notably Rafael Fiziev, for Charles to turnaround quick and fight in his home country. Charles turned that down as he ''needed a break'' after the fight, as was stated by his coach, Diego Lima. The translation was misinterpreted by many including Chael Sonnen as "Charles turning down an immediate rematch against Islam", which is actually incorrect, but still perceived to be the case to this day. To which I don't understand why. Do your research if you don't believe me.

There's a few reasons, I'll explain. The main one is that tsarukyan Vs Oliveira is a number 1 contender's fight because Dana has said it is. Everything else is almost irrelevant. Dana could even retract that and give the title shot to someone else. The second reason is that Gaethje Holloway is taking place in the BMF division which is different to the lightweight division. Gaethje and Holloway will be awarded with a BMF belt rather than a title shot. Finally, Gaethje Holloway is more or less a foregone conclusion put on for casual fans. Gaethjes way too big. It's not impressive for him to beat Holloway, and it wouldn't be impressive for Arman or Charles to beat him.

It would be hilarious if Max somehow wins. While also Oliviera win, and rejects a rematch ONCE more. For Makhachev to defend his LW title against a Featherweight coming up yet one more time haha.

In my opinion, Justin Gaethje should be up next to fight for the title. No doubt about it. I believe there must be some politics involved behind the scenes since Gaethje and Mack-el-chev have the same manager Ali Abdelaziz. Most likely, the fight between Gaethje vs. Mack-el-chev is being put off due to several reasons we don't know about. Cearly, Justin Gaethje should be the #1 contender for the title against Mack-el-chev.

My real issue with Gaethje he has very stubbornly refused to learn submission grappling and is famously still a white belt in a division full of accomplished grapplers. Sure he is so good at keeping the fight standing that it hasn't slowed him down much, but I really doubt he has a great shot against someone like Islam.

There's something really funny about the idea of Islam defending the LW belt against FWs only if Max wins and claims a title shot.

I normally like Chael's takes but this take is entirely incorrect. Oliveira was gonna fight Islam at ufc 294 in the rematch, he never said he didn't want to fight Islam. He only backed out because of a nasty cut over his eye. The only reason Oliveira is fighting Arman instead of Islam is because Islam has ramadan and can't compete till like late summer so Oliveria decides to further solidy his contendership by fighting an up and coming fighter. This whole bs narrative of Oliveira not wanting the Islam fight needs to stop. There are also behind the scenes things that cause issues. For example the ufc being adamant on making Islam fight in Abu Dhabi really restricts his schedule and anyone who fights him. God knows who the next contender will be, at this rate the only person who can actually be ready by the June 8th date is Benoit St Denis if he gets past Porier.

We got there by Charles beating a higher ranked opponent Beniel and he stopped him like he did Justin and Dustin and every single body else. I think Charles wants to wait Islam moving up to 170 out. Makes sense. Islam goes up we need to figure out who the champ is and who has Charles not already beaten. It's logical strategic theory. I thought Dana said it was Justin. Charles missed his chance it's Justin. It should be Justin. I kind of hate this silly BMF fight with Max. But here's the problem a fighter gets to the point where he's promised he's next and 10 things go wrong, and he can either weight a year and a half or fight someone in the meantime. I don't know maybe it makes some kind of sense. Nobody believes Max has a chance to be anything other than a meal for Justin so why not I guess. Nothing seems right. We're in a funk again.
