This is a good thing so people will know how hard is it to create good football games. Konami were creating great a football game but they stopped because nobody was buying it and were preferring to play with their player dolls in EA FIFA games.
No, Konami had an excellent game in Efootball 2020 and 2021, but decided to chase a slice of the microtransaction market EA created. They could have easily sold as many copies of a new PES game with a decent Master League at full price and still got some people playing their version of UT, but instead Konami did Konami things and chased a quick payday at the expense of killing one of their most beloved series.
@@frankhayman exactly pes 2020 and 2021 (which were identical) were the best football games of all time but they were not selling well .. What Konami did is justified 100%.
@@boston19801 I still prefer 5 and 13 but master league has been the same since 16 (probably 15 but I didn’t play that one) and I’ve played them to death. 21 with a fresh mind would be amazing though

The replay value is just amazing, i have all versions from ps3 era onwards and every game has a slight different flavor for those who appreciate this masterpiece, what Konami achieved is not easy and nobody can create a proper football simulation game like this one.
Looks like pre frostbite FIFA, seems like it plays like FIFA 2003. All we need really is a game that plays like PES5 or PES6 but has updated graphics and decent netcode to be able to play online decently, but every company just wants that whale money. Football games need their Wrestling Empire, because that game got huge because gave people what they wanted from wrestling games that the WWE/AEW games were not giving them.
I absolutely agree with your opinions on all of the major issues with UFL. I appreciate it's a f2p game but input lag makes you just not want to play. It's like shooting a gun in a 1st person game and the bullets not coming out lol. It seems they wanna get people addicted to the menu game rather than the gameplay itself. People will say it's just a beta but the foundations here are not solid enough to compete with EA and Konami. Hope to be proven wrong though! Back to PES 2017 for me ⚽

Can you think of a video with 10 features you would like the dev's to implement? That could be useful feedback for them. I liked this opinion video, but we should try to support them with feedback as you and Dave have 20 years of footie gaming experience. Something like - 'Hey UFL Team - Please listen to the community'. Also, I dont understand why they chose to take on FUT. A responsible studio would perfect the FOOTBALL game first then worry bout modes, online play, monetization, cards, XP etc. Football. Football. Football. - How is the passing - How does it feel - How does the CPU AI 'think' - How are the through balls - How is the dribbling - How are the skill moves The best thing for UFL is to redo this and just release a build that we can play against the CPU AI and they can take feedback and improve their football. Once they get the football right then split the codebase into two - Create one Single Player game with Career mode and make teams editable - Create another multiplayer game for FUT or whatever crap these multiplayer people like. A single player focused game has a large market and the fact that all of them are ignoring this is unbelievable. Oh well. Thanks for the video mate. Loved your commentary as usual!
wow, what a downgrade of modern football games. The series that i consider as great football games starting from PES are definitely PES 3, 5, 6, 2009, 2011, and 2013 (2013 by far is the best football game ever for me), and since PES 2014 and the other series after it, you could feel that they became worse and worse. Well, they did a quite decent job in PES 2018, but it only felt like an okay-ish game for me, i didn't feel the vibe of old PES anymore. For FIFA, the FIFA 11, 13, 14, 15, and 17 are the good ones. The other ones, well, do i have to explain it? I've been really sick of FIFA ever since then. Don't know whether they ever come back to what it's like as a real football game that makes the players feel the vibe & happiness to play it, but i really hope so, especially for PES, I'm still hoping they can bounce back one day. It's such a shame. For this UFL one, yeah I mostly agree with you, it's still a crap, but they just started it. I don't know and I don't have any image of how far are they going to develop, but to compete with PES and FIFA with the greatness of their histories and their stuff, it's gonna take some time and a lot of work to do.
The problem with going with realism in sports games these days is having to invest so much to not make the inputs laggy, but also to have proper animations and physics which is just a nightmare to make anything look real, but always comes out uncanny. I would much rather play a 'worse' looking game, but plays like the clappers! And invest more in the world aspect of the sports game like football manager. Basically, a beefed up Pes 6 Master League 😂
Do not know if you still take requests but have you played Football life 2024 ? It's Pes 21 but modded by The smokepatch team and you can add your own mods to enhance the game.
That's the big problem with this little group of FIFA killers that popped up a while back but are still on development - they insist on battling EA on the one field they have harvested for years as opposed to, say, going for the portions that EA have blatantly ignored. Sure, it's where the money is at but it's also money that's more or less glued to EA, they have to rip it off from them and that's easier said than done. UFL has something going, sure, but if I wanted some Ultimate Team thing, what makes this any better than eFootball's Ultimate Team or EA's Ultimate Team or whatever other Ultimate Team will pop out from the wilderness?
@@ChorizoMachine Honestly, I have no idea. EA have the UT market cornered. Efootball gets some players and is F2P, but it's always going to be 2nd in the market, so UFL are shooting themselves in the foot by insisting on this game being focused on online modes. 2K are supposedly making a football game, so hopefully they make at least one solid entry with a decent career mode before they revert back to the usual 2K level of microtransactions
So they don't intend to include manager mode/master league? That is sad news for me, wouldn't be looking to play it. I have no problem with the state of the gameplay as I rate eafc super low, I would say ufl is not that far of
I feel bad for younger gamers who didnt get to play older football gameswith the launch of new football games only thing to say good about this game is its free .
I say that we just need a simple modern football game that uses the best of single and multiplayer. Something like Pes 6. Just if you want challange and excitement play an online game. If you want to relax, play a singleplayer game. And of course Career mode. I think the perfect football game would be gameplay of Pes 5,6 or 2013 and also PES soundtrack , early 2010s Fifa graphics,animation and Motions, FM database and career mode with of course FIFPro license
Just played this after watching this video out of morbid curiosity. Watching the gameplay was one thing..playing UFL on the other hand? Immediately uninstalled.
@@ChorizoMachine Yeah, and even then the simplicity is bogged down by the sluggish input lag and the movement. The players felt awkward and tanky. Props to the team for wanting to compete in the soccer/football gaming landscape where there’s barely any nowadays, but they need to really step it up and make something beyond an UT clone.
It plays far more like a modern day PES game. When PES switched to the Fox Engine for PES 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 etc.. everything felt so slow, clunky, stiff, unresponsive, you couldn’t dribble etc.. This is exactly how UFL plays. The menus are so clean though, plus the market place is a great idea where all players have set prices. For a first attempt at a football video game, it’s a decent attempt. There’s obviously a lot of things that need improving, people need to support this game. It’s so refreshing to have another football game that isn’t FIFA or PES. It’s crazy how good FIFA 12, 13, 14 etc all were back in the day, they absolutely nailed the fun gameplay of a football game. Even PES 2013 pretty much nailed it as well, these games were so fluid, responsive, great dribbling mechanics etc.. It’s crazy how no modern day football game can capture that fun
I do work with Konami the coding is not that hard the problem if you bring programmers thy never watch a real soccer match and thy watch only hockey and told them to make a soccer game thy will give u a crap game for sure because of many reason
expected it to be this bad. This is the problem with building a football game from the ground up, it's takes years just to get the feel of the game to be right. I expect 2k will have the same issues with their fifa game, they've only been working on that what, two or three years, it just won't be good enough
I played one match of this earlier, so sluggish and annoying to play. Nothing about it really wow’ed me. Shame we need a decent footy game other than eafc
My opinion is that this game is a cheap imitation of FIFA. Even the animations are like they "stole" them from EA. Lifeless imitation, with no character, no soul. For example you can distinct FIFA from PES at once. This look like FIFA 11 pre alfa. Bad passing, lifeless shooting, choppy animations, repetitive ball physics, no net physics, graphically is just passable. Too much hype and anticipation for N O T H I N G. Kudos to the brand manager and the graphic designers (nice menus, logo, presentation) but, at the end it is the gameplay that counts. And the gameplay is sub par. And honestly I believe that more or less this will be it. The "beta access hope" is overly optimistic. I remember "bad" football games like PES 2014 or efootball 2022 v0.9. Ok, they had serious issues, but they had CHARACTER. (and I loved them back then).
Laugh out loud “automated and boring” mate, FIFA automated and boring. You play people online with the same players as you and everyone else, you score the same style of goals all the time. I miss the Master League on PES as UFT (or whatever it’s called?) is crap. FM is the only good football game on the market (well, there is Rocket League 😅), the problem with that game is I need to plan my day to play it (it’s a great game/franchise tho). That 2K football game that’s happening is the only hope, but I think that will be crap as well 😪

My post sounded aggressive laugh out loud 😅 I play FIFA 23 and get depressed as EA just don’t care (you can see it in FIFA23 and FIFA24 - I think FIFA24 is just as bad as FIFA23). I’m playing Soccer Story, it’s not a football game but a story/adventure/RPG, but I’m having fun 😵💫 I think sports games are in a really bad way (especially football games), but FM is doing great 👍🏾
Sadly not great, EA has fully monoplyised football games were noone can compete sadly and the state of gaming there no chance of any competitors. I prefer playing old pes games, even sega world wide soccer which is hugely dated but has the fun factor
