It could be convergent evolution, this design of having two legs and two free arms tends to advance intellectually faster than other species even on other planets. It could be that species similar to us are interested in us, if there was a species that was similar to an octopus it would most likely investigate planets with Advanced octopus-like species, something similar to it. It could be that their species evolved here on Earth as an advanced race a couple million years ahead of us. It could be that our understanding of reality is incorrect and there are various realities that run alongside of ours that we can't directly see or interact with, they have figured out how to cross that barrier whereas we haven't. In the end we don't really know what reality is. We have a decent enough map of it, quantum theory, General relativity, to be able to get us the technology we have today but not good enough to give us technology we will have in 500 years, because physics is never really complete. We used to think a lot of things about reality and we would have scientists from those days say that their theories were correct. We have the same thing today, we have a theoretical physics that does pretty well and we have a lot of scientists and individuals saying that our physics is complete and this is it, therefore any hypothetical about something that may disagree with our current laws of physics is automatically incorrect. As opposed to accepting that we don't have a full understanding of reality and our physics is far from Complete because there are a significant amount of issues that it can't answer for.

They aren’t future humans, wow we can’t let it go that others are smarter and more advanced than us? Our egos are so disappointingly massive, we can’t even handle ET so we make up things like it’s still us but future us! I guess that bruises our ego less? Let’s get over ourselves
