UGLY DUCKLING TREE | Reviving a Live Christmas Tree & Free Ornaments 

You can bury the container with the tree in it until next year. We bought a living tree and placed it in a 5 gallon bucket with holes in the bottom. We then buried the bucket 2/3 deep in the ground. We chose the spot where the tree would be planted eventually to do this. The first few years we would dig the bucket up and place it in a wooden decorative planter box we built for it. This way you are not constantly disturbing the roots of the tree. After Christmas the tree in the bucket would be placed back in the hole in the ground and watered and fertilized until almost Christmas. We get about 3 years with a tree until it gets taken out of the bucket and planted permanently in the hole where the tree was kept in the ground. We then buy another bucket and tree and dig another hole and start all over again. We have been doing this for 40 years and have some very nice evergreens in our landscape! A TIP FOR YOU: In the spring and fall you need to trim the tree into the shape you want it to grow. All Christmas tree farms and arborists do this to shape growing trees. It helps the tree stay healthy.

When my children were small we made a homemade ornament every year. I am now 73 and we still use them. I truly hope for all your plans to be successful.

Close friends of mine own a Christmas tree farm where a lot of Nashville celebrities get their trees. They trim all their trees to make them cone shaped. Most coniferous trees are Charlie Brown trees if left on their own. Trim it, feed it and put in an appropriate sized pot, next year you’ll be amazed.

my exhusband was from UK and he told me that his family did this every year; brought their tree in from the garden and then just replanted it out there after Christ....something this Canadian had never heard of....I think it is brilliant idea; I think the better of 3 ideas, cutting real ones, 2 using artificial and 3 reuse each year a real tree...wonderful 🎄 I hope you two had a wonderful Christmas in Suffock. 🎄

Love the Charlie Brown tree..... I've made a lot of Angel ornaments out of the flat clam shells. I lightly paint over the shell with glitter paint, then, when dry, I add a pearl bead for the head, a bow of small ribbon for wings, embellish the shell, and violá...... If one has access to silk rose petals (like used for weddings), one can use a neutral pipe cleaner for arms, and make sleeves out of the rose petals for the angel. One can also use 1" pieces of toilet paper cardboard rolls and leftover yarn to make Santa or gnome hats as additional ornaments. Homemade ornaments on a tree sometimes have a more special meaning than expensive store bought ones.

What a great idea to use a little potted tree. It will grow, if given water and fertilizer (old animal poop works well). I have a tiny fake white tree with pink decorations that I reuse every year. Your keeping Christmas simple and full of love is ideal. Happy Christmas!

The natural ornaments are pretty. You can paint a picture or a sentiment on the shells each year too.

Put a large tray or platter under it. Then when it’s watered it won’t drain all over the place. A great first year tree.

I love how you got the angel. Maybe. It was your guardian angel gave it to you. ....I have a 4" tall bronze cross made for me years ago. It,s one of my favorite possessions. I keep it in my home on the bathroom mirror 🪞 It hanging from a ribbon. So I see it everyday.

The tree needs water or it isn't going to live till next year.. Nothing wrong with home made decorations. I have a mixture. My children's and store bought. Trying to collect vintage but they are scarce where I live. Happy new year.

Tatyana, maybe another idea would be to visit a nursery each November/December and buy a PERFECT specimen in a pot, transplant it to a roomier pot with potting soil, (those potted ones are always root-bound,) bring it in and decorate it for Christmas. Then, after Christmas, plant it outside in the spring! Next holiday season, repeat. Over a number of years, you will have beautiful pine/fur trees on your property that you planted yourself. Don't put them all in one area, however, because that makes a "tasty food patch" for invasive tent/army/whatever species catepillars. Spread the trees out over your property, or even arrange a well-spaced grouping in the front of your property, oldest and tallest closer to your home/chateau going outward toward the entrance gate. That way, you can decorate them for Christmas/holidays and have Christmas trees on the outside as well as on the inside! I hope you and Selmar had a very merry Christmas and all good wishes and luck in the coming "New Year 2022" as regards your exciting dreams and plans!

I love the idea of having a real tree in a pot but…..I have a phobia of some bugs 🪳🪲🪰🦟🕷🐛🪱🐌😫 and I just know horrific things would crawl or fly out of it when I brought it in so I have an artificial one now. Hoping you had a lovely Christmas . 🤗🥰🙋🏼‍♀️ There is a way to clean silver without rubbing. Line the bottom of a non aluminum dish with a sheet of foil Mix 1tablespoon of baking sofa into a quart of hot water Soak for half hour but time may vary depending on amount of tarnish Buff with clean dry cloth , lightly in this case. 🤞 good lock
