As an old man now, a life long Zappa devotee, these talented young things nailed it down. Hat's off to you and the prof that made it happen. Salute to you for passing on musical genius. This was excellent Frank.
WOW!!! This is AWESOME!!!! You guys are so good!!! I love seeing more people taking an interest in the music of Frank Zappa. I’ve also been a fan of his music since the early 70’s Great job done by all. Nice guitar work.... doing it your own way like that!
One of my favorite versions of this song. I was just listening to some of Frank’s live stuff and had to come back and listen to this again. Hope to visit Hilo again one day and check them out in person.
I enjoyed this. I have to say that pygmy twilite is my favourite zappa tune. I saw him when i was 12 and later saw dweezil and ray white with zpz. I have to say the cuts from 1973 and 74 of PT are my favourite. the guitar on live in helsinki 1974 is high fidelity and awesome. the orchestra is pretty great in general. The bass player is pretty fantastic in my opinion. I was watching you dude. I enjoyed both drummers too. Both technically on point and with their own nuances. my musician intuition tells me the keyboard player is really into this tune. sometimes you go away to a place in a room full of sounds. music is transcendent.
Hello! I was an exchange student in UH Hilo that year. One friend of mine invited me to this concert. The saxophonist was another friend's roomie. I remember he was called Thor. I wish you could upload the whole concert. Please. Thank you!!
The helsinki concert arrangement, respect. The vocal interlude at 2:36 is a bit dissapointing, but trying to mimic the sounds Napolean made is a weeeeeee bit tough to do, lmao. Thanks for uploading!
Super performance from the whole band! Especially the vocal performance was really exceptional! But I hate the guitar solo - it's way too long. Almost half of the song plays this young man and all have to wait until he has delivered his private show - I do not understand. Not even Frank Zappa played such excessive solos... boring! And my dear "WORSTXB1PLAYER Tyler Tee H C" I don't think Frank would have loved this!
Well, Dieter, these are kids who are being introduced to this music by a great teacher. I'd cut them some slack. Frank's son actually came to their Zappa tribute show the following year and supports them. Best, Jay
Excellent videography.these kids have it going on. Refreshing to hear a new generation getting into Franks music. Brilliant performances by all. Thank you Jay Curlee for posting this outstanding tribute to Frank Zappa.
