We have a "Majority" system here in Canada and we do have several different political parties (most are very specific topic). I can honestly say that we don't have to worry about a specific province (a state in the US) swinging an election.

According to the SC ruling that disallowed Colorado to keep Trump off the ballot (for the same rule that they upheld a state's right to do for a state level person) the states shouldn't have the right to decide the federal election for other states - basically an argument against the electoral college and for the popular vote.
