Primus was cool I liked that video on MTV. They weren't playing live there the sound was made in the studio.

He's getting that sound by putting a pickup on that double bass and distorting it. Makes the bow sound like it's raggedly dragging across the strings. Double bass is also actually an octave lower than a written pitch.

Primus is techically Funk-Metal, but then they also have their own ID3-Tag. It's hard to put these guys in a box and say: they're playing THAT genre.

As far as I know the music press were classifying bands in to categories, and when it came to Primus they had to give them their own genre . That riff at the end of this song is killer.

That album is comes off of, “Pork Soda” is definitely their strangest, heaviest & darkest album. A stand-up bass is basically a cello….it’s a cello if it’s played with a bow & it’s a bass when it’s played without a bow…..check out “Hamburger Train” from that album. It’s 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I think they're very similar but actually considered different instruments. I think cellos are a little smaller as every time I've seen someone play one they were sitting in a chair. Les has had a cello player perform with him at times before, named Sam Bass (sort of ironically)!
