Thats no weakness, the fact that you've done that trip in that space of time (including a lap of the ring) is testament to what the design of the car is about
I am fortunate enough to own the DB9.2.....2014 coupe....and, although there is always a faster car, none has smitten me as this one...I've had a variety of cool/ fast cars in my life but my Audrey steals my heart
That car is truly stunning, but I sense this won't be a keeper by Tim's reaction, which is a shame, because it appeared to deliver everything a GT should - particularly an older one!
Just not his type of GT. Maybe when he ages another 10 or so years he will be ready to get another one. But yeah, you can sense it's likely the next to go. But not a bad thing, someone who rather have it can enjoy it instead while Tim get's something he would enjoy more.
It's amazing how desensitized to speed one can become when driving really powerful cars, the fastest I've ever driven is 175 kmph and I felt like I was flying... my guy here is doing 210 kmph and said he's a bit disappointed! Kudos bruv
@shmee150 It's always pure pleasure driving the Nordschleife. Very cool you take almost all you're cars to the track and do a lap with it. I'm the owner of the bleu Schirmer M2 GT passing by at 10:50 Had no idea you where driving behind me. As always great video!
Beautiful sound but definitely not worth bringing to the track compared to so many other shmeemobiles! Thanks for always bringing the fresh content Tim!
Hey Tim, it's laughable when you say you're spoiled off truly focused sports and hyper cars, but that DBS is doing exactly what it was made for. That car is like a Tuxedo with wheels and tires on it. But I'm sure if you wanted a little more out of it, I'm sure by now there's things made for it. Here in the states, the speeds you was doing would get you locked up unless you're in Arizona. I like that car, definitely a good look on the town...
There's definutely upgrades for the V12 engine. The later vanquish had essentially the same engine with more HP, and then there's aftermarket power adders (headers, exhaust, etc) on top of that. But ya, it's not like he can use nearly all of that in the UK
Beautiful car. Perfect for such a trip. And nice driving on the ring. You have definitely improved over the years and it is great to watch laps, even if they are slower due to the car etc, which is totally understandable. Thank you for keeping up the great content. Especially these vlog type videos. It’s good to mix the content up.
When someone has a GT8 and feels their DBS is a little too unassuming and not dynamic enough, it's very obvious what you need to replace the DBS with.... *GT12* 😃
This has to be one of the best on the channel, yes it’s slow and not agile but It’s relaxing and at the end of the day imagine doing such a distance in such a short time and still having energy left. In addition it actually seemed just fast enough and that laid back vibe kinda got intriguing. It’s old but I guess everyone will agree this is the real Gold.
I was half-expecting Tim to pull over, get out, disappear into the trees, and come back brandishing a leafy branch Basil Fawlty-style to give the Aston a damn good thrashing...
Do you think it will be special enough, Dennis? I get the impression that Tim's looking for 1,500+BHP with extra electric motors and F1 tech and performance in order to stay ahead of his own expectations. If I were a car in the Shmee fleet I'd be feeling very nervous over the next few months.
I have had my DBS for 8 years and totally recommend a Quick Silver exhaust. It transforms the driving experience and the music from the V12 is a source of constant pleasure. It’s a Gentleman’s Express.
A perfect lottery win 3 car garage would be one of these as a daily luxurious and still always turn back and look when parked. A new 911 GT3 as a track/serious driving weapon and just to really nerd out. and a Ferrari F12 TDF for the seriously special drives. ahhhh man what a dream. im picturing how each would look next to eachother and wow haha.
It would be nice to see more of your travels rather than in car views. Lots of towns, cities, buildings, people you must have met etc... all we got was an in car camera with you driving from the UK to Germany and back. Their must have been some really cool things along the way and it would be nice to see these places. I appreciate it's not a travel program but it kind of is a Grand Tour type video
Maybe not a sports car but a true GT. However, there are plenty of tweaks available from some very famous third party tuners that would iron out most of the issues that Schmee has come across - not least of which is a performance remap, a gearbox software remap and a better free flowing exhaust. I've seen these with a touch over 600 HP, normally aspirated, kicking some serious performance for a heavy V12.
At the end of the day a DBS IS a true "GT" car, it's NOT a hyper car. It's quicker than your average machine, but it's not all about massive power & rocket ship performance. For most people a DBS on the 'ring would be plenty fast enough, but given what Tim is comparing it to within his collection, it's understandable for him to call 550BHP "slow". A GT is designed for effortlessly crossing a continent, as per the drive from Germany to the UK, not for thrashing around the 'ring!
When this car was bought, forever car was mentioned. Sadly this is sounding more and more like a very temporary car now. Too bad. It adds a ton of class to any collection.
Oh, you say the DBS is for an older person... Good job I'm 66 then! So, its the Manual I have, and it is a proper drivers car. I drove the Auto, and its got a totally different personality. Manual makes it. Thank's Tim. The Oldie.
Might be worth contacting Bamford Rose, UK Aston Martin tuning specialists, to really get the most out of that V12. Although, at the end of the day, it's still a big cruising GT, not a track car....
I'm really curious to see the car on the dyno, because the car does seem unusually slow to the point that something could be wrong. It took you roughly 14 seconds to go from 26mph to 111 mph in the start, in a car that's supposed to be able to do 0-117.4 in 12.4 seconds (per Motortrend).
In a Aston you merely need to imply you could go round fast but no need to do it. 😁 A gentleman’s Car - its a bit like Sinatra in a world surrounded by dizzy rascals. I take it more was done on this trip be it coming to the channel or private or was that just an out and out Euro blast to the ring and back just for the fun of it ? 😁 Never driven on the continent but it looks an experience - dream to drive from my home in Glasgow to Monaco taking in some of the roads. I’d love to do some of the famous Alps passes in and out of Italy.
Well it sounds like the BEAUTIFUL DBS will be departing the garage. It’s truly sad because the point of this marvelous vehicle is to be driven in style. It’s what us Americans call a date night cruiser. It’s elegant in every way and screams class. The DBS in my opinion should stay but then again it’s not my collection. Tim has a vision and I can’t wait to see what happens.
If you love the looks of the car and wish it had just a little more power, I'd look into seeing if you could bring it up to Vanquish (565 HP) or Vanquish S (595 HP) from the current 510 HP, since they are essentially the same engine. Someone like David Appleby Engineering should be able to give you some straight answers on that.
Hi Tim I like your videos and my favorite car in terms of appearance is Aston Martin but I have to admit when you open the car door no no no steering wheel on the wrong side. Steering wheel on the wrong side hell no no no it's just wrong. Imagine a nice cake but when you taste it it is salty
Beautiful car but wow that is so much slower than my old S63 AMG 6.3 which was really a 6.2 litre. Would be interesting to see them both side by side to see the difference.
