Uilleann Pipes has been long known for the symbolic instrument of Irish music. The word "Uilleann" is the homonymic word of union and also a reflection of the history of Ireland. Unlike the Scottish pipes which is known as an outdoor pipe, Uilleann pipes is an indoor instrument and requires more care of the maintenance. John Butler, who was obsessed by the unique sound of Uilleann pipes and traditional Irish music since sixteen, devotes his passion and enthusiasm in pursuing mastership in pipe making.

The Uilleann pipes, developed over hundreds of years in Ireland, intricate in detail, the most definitive bagpipes of them all. Makes me proud to be Irish when I see instrument makers like this...!

I know John for many years as an serious and dedicated piper. I'm sure his pipes are equally of the highest caliber. All the best for your new enterprise !

Lovely video John. Met Peter (?) Lamb, a pipemaker, sailing, in the Azores about 12 years ago. His son was/is making penny whistles in Ireland.

That would be Eugene Lambe, the pipe-maker. His son Ian makes beautifullly mellow low whistles, that is, an octave lower than the traditional whistle.

3:30 Yup, the reed is the secret of the pipes' sound along with squeezing the bellows to let that air out.

The word "Uilleann" is definitely NOT a homonymic word of union. Homonyms are identical spellings used for terms with different meanings; Synonyms, however, are different terms for the same object (The synonym "Union pipes" was first mentioned in 1790).

a low noise compressor would do wonders for this machine.

That's what I've been thinking also.

It wouldn't work because the pressure needs to raise a bit to go into the second octave, and must be able to at any given moment.

Please explain to me what a noise compressor is, what it does, and why they would be good for the pipes.

Uilleann bagpipes are incredibly difficult to play. You have to be 100% dedicated to practicing if you ever want to sound good.

How much for a set? And how long would it take for me to get them?
@dean84921
@dean84921 8 лет назад
+The Piano Man Around $2000 depending on if you want a full set or a half/learning set, and anywhere from 3-9 months.

Get a tin whistle and start learning the tunes on it, the fingering is the same. Don't waste time and money on cheap pakistani ebay sets. Save your money and buy a good set when you can play the whistle well enough to make it worth the investment.
