Thank you so much for adding Full Weight for this video! I have often wondered how that compares to your base weight, and how your gear list might change for a multi-day trip wherein you are not going into town (helpful for planning extended weekend trips ie Labor Day as well). As always, coming to your channel I enjoy learning something new in a really approachable way.

I switched from my long sleeve silverridge for a OR hoodie on the CT last summer because of all the exposure. at the very least it saved me a ton of sunscreen but I felt like it breathed so much better. I would definitely recommend the sun hoodie baseball cap combo

I did the Highlilne about 5 years ago and my starting weight was 35. I brought 6 days of food even though it only took us 5. Can't imagine doing it with only 20lbs. Luckly I have been able to lower my base weight quite a bit since then. I want to do it again and try to do it in 4 days. It's a great trail, I must have just missed you. We were at Dead Horse Lake on Sunday July 19th. Nice to see the Highline trail get some recognition.

\m/ rock on Darwin. I'm a audio engineer by trade who has recently gotten more into ultralight hiking due to a lot of your help and others like my girlfriend's brother. He actually did the highline trail a couple of weeks ago as well. I lost my job due to the pandemic. I saw that you also used to mix (or still mix) for bands and such. Very cool man. I'd love to hear some of the projects you were involved with! I was on tour with K. Flay and Donna Missal personally for the past year out in Europe, UK, and US. Great videos man! Thanks super informative. .. Been weighing out the Visp. 😊 Here's a few odds and ends that I've discovered. Sponge cloth by If You Care. Super thin sponge as a camp towel. They are 9 grams /.3oz but I also cut them in half so half that. Great for absorbing tent condensation and general use. Around home, too. Excellent around sinks. Compostable but last for months of regular use. And dry super fast. For a toothbrush I use child's size from Sofresh. It's not mushy like a soft or kids brush. It's called a flossing brush and gets in between teeth better than anything else I've tried and has a grip gaurd in just the right place to cut it down. They have skinny necks. Cut down...not all the way in half is 11 grams or just under .4oz.

Hello Darwin I'm a larger man and walking shorter distances but I still get out there and do 5 miles once a week. I've been subscribed here on your Channel for six months now and am now dreaming of a vacation we're all I do is walk around and camp. The amount of distance traveled for me would never be the goal just getting out there and being in nature and away from everything just looks like that most absolute best time. I have seen you do small video segment on medical on the Trail such as taking care of blisters and proper wrapping. I would like to make a request, a video that details your medical kits and it's different uses. Thank you so much and may your time on the trail be everlasting.

Ive been following you for a while now. Ive noticed your diet on trail change some to more quote unquote healthy options. Have you ever considered, or know anyone of your caliber, who eats a ketogenic diet? I dont have many miles under my belt hiking, but find I can go longer farther with less food, because of ketosis, both hiking amd everyday living. I feel one would have to be somewhat creative on longer thru hikes with re-supply. You always strike me as someone who looks for advantages and I believe ketosis is definitely one to consider. My 2 cents. Thanks for the great videos! I really appreciate what you do, and respect your advice and opinions.

You probably know this, but wetting out is a function of the hydrophobic layer wearing off or not being applied properly at factory. If you just get some more (Nikwax is a brand, tons more) it'll come out like new.

@darthkek1953
@darthkek1953 4 года назад
As someone who hikes Scottish mountains, 7c isn't much. A hoodie is one approach but more importantly anything that stops the wind chill. Providing it's not below freezing mostly a simple windcheater is enough to turn a t-shirt from a near-death experience to a lovely day out.
@jdude9922
@jdude9922 3 года назад
Darth KEK the wind isn’t bad here though. It gets gusty above 12k feet but it doesn’t have much bite to it. Only time I worry about an actual shell outside of a froggtogg here is during ski season.
