WOW just downloaded the .pdf file .. so nice of you to post it. The file marks and chisel signature are art on their own .. your close-ups are a joy to behold .. I’m printing page 8/32 ‘The Soul of Japan’ .. for some reason it brings me to tears .. it just embodies ‘IT’. Thanks again......
Merry Christmas .. All good wishes going your and yours way brother ...... Oh the second you unsheathed the blade the flash off the engraving made me gasp.. yes yin/yang .. dragon descending/dragon ascending .. Thanks again for your trips into the blades .. it’s spiritual and inspirational. Happy New Year 🎊
I own one of his swords made in Meji's 5th year. August 1872 on a lucky day. I wish I could post pictures. It was made for an officer in military, and his name is on it. It's a Katana. But that's nice!
Absolutely gorgeous sword, the closeup pictures in the .pdf are yet more breathtaking, I can only imagine what it's like in person. Does it have a full grip and hilt (I forgot the terms), or is it just a blade in a shirasaya?
Hey Emma, that's cool to know about hand engraving. Have a look at the PDF that we made on this sword, I think you'll appreciate it: new.uniquejapan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/ujwa244-A-Gassan-Sadakazu-Masterpiece-Wakizashi-Description-from-Unique-Japan.pdf
@@PabloKuntz cheers for posting that, proper interesting (to me anyway!) I know the best machine engravers with diamond tip cutters that can't do that kind of fine, intricate work on steel without leaving burr behind. And to not damage the integrity of the metal being as it's cut so deep, pretty incredible skills this man had

I can’t believe how emotional get each and every time this thumbnail passes by (and it does a lot). A bit embarrassing really! I forge “Japanese style swords” and been studying martial arts since 1983. So I get what it is. Hmmmm❤ it’s so hard to tell if it’s Hira or Shobu.. pretty sure Hira zukuri
When I read the name Gassan Sadakazu in connection with seeing the blade, I remembered that my favorite sword and koshirae was made by the same man. The respective piece can be looked up online here: nihontoart.com/shop/kogarasu-maru-tachi-by-gassan-sadakazu/ [site momentarily disabled until further notice] Thank you for sharing. It is a beautiful piece of art.
