Driving over a crossing while there are people waiting is a dick move but is technically not illegal, you're only obligated to give way once they have actually set foot onto the crossing

Not everything in the highway code is a legal requirement (although the highway code can be used as a reference for prosecution of "driving without due care and attention" etc). The highway code (assuming you're looking at the version on the gov website) also provides a link to the relevant laws. In this case the only part of the linked law that covers right of way or "precedence": Precedence of pedestrians over vehicles at Zebra crossings 25.-(1) Every pedestrian, if he is on the carriageway within the limits of a Zebra crossing, which is not for the time being controlled by a constable in uniform or traffic warden, before any part of a vehicle has entered those limits, shall have precedence within those limits over that vehicle and the driver of the vehicle shall accord such precedence to any such pedestrian. In this example the "be ready to stop to let them cross" would likely be used to charge a driver with "driving without due care or attention" in the event that a pedestrian were to be hit by a car as they stepped onto the crossing as the highway code states that drivers should be on the lookout for pedestrians about to cross. But this does not mean that the driver is legally obligated to stop for a pedestrian waiting to cross, just that they would be at fault in the event of an incident

@@jwalker7567 "Look out for pedestrians..." is just good advice, not law. Even the HC update only says "You should" rather than "You MUST" since the law is not being changed. The law only defines what happens on the crossing, not near it.

Crossed the solids as well. Should have waited as it looked like the car had stalled or anything could have happened before the car came into view. Another car could have driven off a second or 2 before.

Realistically tho, who's going to risk being raged at for stopping on the exit of a roundabout just to follow the highway code? The real people who need gutting are whoever made the decision to put zebra crossings there. It goes against the very notion of roundabouts; to keep the traffic flowing. Why not put it 25m further along the road?

It was filmed around lakeside and it’s that roundabout and the one further up in the other direction (as seen in a clip earlier with the van crossing the chevrons) are the worst for people jumping lanes and nearly causing accidents.

I'm not trying to defend Alpha Wolf's terrible driving, but he wasn't legally obligated to stop at the crossing. The HC says "look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross; you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing". The peds hadn't started crossing yet.

You don't have to stop for people until they have stepped one foot on the crossing(stopping is a courtesy and should only do so when it's safe to, I had people do emergency brake right in front of me to allow people to start crossing) , but he was speeding around a roundabout and it's exit hate drivers like this

I find that the people who get impatient and angry at cyclists aren’t cyclists themselves so don’t really understand . The guy was probably already tired when he went into that turn and couldn’t clip out of the pedals to recover. He crashed hard into his left side and shoulder, which from experience hurts a lot, then rolls onto his back for a breather. You can’t really expect someone to just bounce up from that sort of fall.

Guarantee they live in the area and it's a route they travel every day. It's what I call "autopilot driving", people taking the same route every day to work etc half asleep and completely oblivious to any change in the road system until it's too late. Used to see it all the time when I commuted and there was suddenly roadworks or some other issue, people lose their minds and go into a flap.

asside from Alpha wolf, Nathan has to get some shit this week, 4 exits on a roundabout from the left hand lane !!!

The lane is marked for straight ahead and right turns so technically he's not done anything wrong. Anyone with common sense wouldn't sit in a left hand lane to take the 4th/5th exit though.

I live near there, left hand lane is actually the correct lane if you follow the signage. The right hand lane is used only to head into the city centre, left hand is only to head to an industrial & housing estate. It’s a pretty unusual road layout though, so I think most would anticipate others not being aware of it...

Totally agree with you, I see this BS day in day out. Wouldn't surprise me if the car that over took was actually doing the speed limit whilst they're pissing about in lanes two three and four. All that additional lane has done is give the lane huggers an extra lane to sit in.

I've seen the clip before and apparently the Audi driver blacked out and had blacked out before this so should've stayed off the road! Lucky not to kill a pedestrian or car occupant.

Even if I have to cross the solid double white lines, and drive down the wrong side of the road, I'm KEEPING MY FOOT DOWN. As he was already half was across the road, the silver hatchback driver was looking left. The hatchback could have been hit by SpiritBoy1969 unexpectedly coming from the right, on the wrong side of the road. Luckily, the hatchback driver, who is clearly a better driver than SpiritBoy1969, managed to brake, and avoid the collision. SpiritBoy1969 is a dangerous driver.

Knowing the roundabout in question this is how it's designed. Over the bridge "Longwater" is a large retail park so has it's own lane off the A47. I've had various near misses there.

@@ryanlawson8767 that's no surprise then I did notice s right arrow on the lane. This is the problem with local council's deciding on how to layout roads. People who are not local try and use the road set out by the highway code and end up the victims.

Even locals are caught out by it. Atleast it is well sign posted though. However that's only useful if you know that "L'wter" is the longwater shopping park. Just down the road for that there another roundabout where the left hand lane and second hand lane is for the first exit but if want second exit straight over it's the far right. Done to manage traffic but this isnt sign posted at all.

Especially when the car is angled away from you a fair bit like that, they probably won't see you coming up fast very well (even more so if elderly as they can struggle to turn their heads). No point making someone's cock-up worse.

Took me a couple of watches before realising it was LWTR for Longwater.

So many people get that roundabout wrong. I normally hang back just in case the person in the right lane cuts to the left, after the amount of close calls I’ve had.

I was about to comment on that and re-checked. Left hand lane for fourth turning at a roundabout seems to be so wrong. Very poor design.

That's a fairly usual feature for a continuation of an A-route across a roundabout.

Counterintuitive and poorly marked. Yep, that ticks the boxes for most modern roundabouts...

@@daveedwards7790 That particular roundabout was very clearly marked on the approach to be fair. There was good lane markings all the way round too so there's not really any excuse to switch lanes on exit and cut into someone else.

This roundabout was remarked/assigned a few years ago like this. The right slip road lane is for, and only for the 4th exit on the first roundabout, over the bridge in the right lane and the rignt exit on the next roundabout to head into Norwich. The left slip is for all other 1st roundabout exits and the left lane over the bridge which leads to a business park, industrial area and a huge housing estate.

Yup, a timid CRV driver, Ashley trying to plough on with nowhere to go and an artic driver reluctant to brake. All three of them are to blame really.

It's called using all the lanes provided which is what you are taught to do. What both lorries, the CRV and Ashley all did wrong was not give each other enough space. I don't think Ashley helped by trying to get in front of the blue lorry. I would have held back and given myself more room.

If your in the car behind you usually are in a better position to prevent an accident from occurring and take steps to avoid it.
