UK Driving Test Changes for 2017! 

They better not make it harder! only just passed my fucking theory.

Ello everyone! Hope you've had a great couple days. What would you guys change on the UK driving test? Up to Insomnia 59 in Birmingham tomorrow too. Let me know if you're there :)

My driving instructor is a pain in the ass he is driven more towards making me do more lessons so he earns money instead of actually focusing on helping me pass. I literally do everything he says perfectly and the end of the lessons he says i need dozen more lessons to become perfect ... wtf

I'm supposed to be playing Game Of War but The Legend27 keeps changing the UK driving laws.

I passed my test a month ago and my biggest problem has been bay parking with cars around. If only this was covered before! I agree that motorway driving should be an aspect of lessons or test.

I hope they add some questions or assessment on interacting with "vulnerable road users" (cyclists, horses etc) or "extra ordinary traffic" (slow moving vehicles, emergency vehicles) this would be great to reduce the "must get in front" mindset that many drivers get into as they become more confident. Overtaking slow vehicles can be more difficult that normal traffic.

I live in a pretty rural part of Northern Ireland and the nearest town where I took my test is something like 40-50 mile from the nearest motorway, thinking this is maybe why they haven't introduced it because it's not possible to include in the test for all areas!

Estonians have a fairly good test imho. 1) Theory test with choice questions (with variable categories in the test, if you make an error in safety category it is an automatic flunk with 1 mistake) 2) Practical test that has 15 minutes in regular traffic, 15 minutes in "highway" or at least +90 speed traffic and 15 minutes of extra time with 3 elements chosen out of about 9 I think (things like starting from a hill, parking, backing into a turn etc) There used to be a third part for elements done in a closed lot but thankfully they changed that so instead they feel more natural and are done on the road, hence one of my elements was to park in an actual mall parking lot and as it was mostly empty I simply chose an easy spot to park within. They also do a little theory random quiz but not while driving, usually just before starting the practical test, while sitting in the car, just to get a "feel" for the driver to be. There are legends of people getting flunked even at this stage as sometimes the instructor "forgets" to buckle himself up so if you start moving it is safety error and goodbye with your chances. We also have a local legend that usually people get flunked very easily the first time just to up the ante, they will let you through if you are a perfect driver, otherwise fill in the tax coffers by paying for another test and try again. Anything like that in the UK?

As an ADI, we should include how to avoid pot holes, and navigate roads with no lines or signs covered by trees.

Crazy! The main point of the UK Driving Test is that if you can drive safely, your set to go with a PASS! However, if they are now wanting you to think of "show me, tell me" questions & answers whiles driving, doesn't that offset a bit of safety? - Great video too, gained a subscriber :-)

I passed on the new test my 2nd time. Both had full 20 mins sat nav, emergency stops, parallel park for my first and reverse bay park at the test centre for my second. I found the sat nav much more easier, instead of the instructor just say "follow the road to Lancaster etc.." Now as an independent driver I can't function without the sat nav, I feel anxious without and use for everything, even just the grocery store

Just had my Practical and faild... I had 0 minor faults and 2 major.. 1 was for leaving a "large" gap between the cerb and the vehicle and second was for stoling the engine once.. is that even possible to get a major faults on that??? stoling the engine once is just a drivers error/lack of control right?

They should incorporate some form of motorway driving but instead of adding it on to the test they should make something like the Pass Plus Scheme mandatory after someone has passed the test, to be completed at least 6 months after passing. This will remove added pressure to the test. I don't think it would be wise to remove the Turn in the Road manoeuvre or the Reverse around a corner as they won't be taught therefore removing the possibility that a learner driver could use them in the future. The only logical reason that people call these manoeuvres outdated is because drivers always opt for the "easier" option of swinging around in a junction. Personally, like Paynos, I do the aforementioned manoeuvres all the time along with the bay and parallel park. As for asking a question whilst driving that would be a good implementation to test ability to focus on the road and complete a separate task but do learner drivers really need to be tested on their ability to programme a navigation system like Google Maps? I'm sure they could handle it. 😀

I passed on the 12th of November 2016 and knew nothing about motorways so I went back to my instructor and asked for a motorway lesson. I suggest doing this just for that lil bit of help :D

I do think they need to include some sort of motorway training. I'm learning to drive and on my 10th lesson still haven't done my theory. I think the Theory test is pointless just another money making system for the government love ur videos mate keep up the good work!

I feel with you about the motorway. It sucks because the nearest motorway from me is an hour away, so everyone around my area is very nervous when it comes to motorways :)

I just got my first car two days ago and yeah, it occurred to me _while driving, when I actually needed it_ that I didn't know how to demist the windows or activate the rear wiper. I'm gonna have to play with all the controls while parked or search the manual. I'd say the reason motorways aren't on the test is that not everyone lives near a motorway. I live over an hour drive from the nearest motorway. And really, apart from having a few different signs that can be covered on the theory test, motorways are basically the same as dual carriageways.

The issue with motorway driving is that if you're taking your test in certain areas of the UK (like, anywhere west of Exeter for instance), there is no motorway to practice on. I do agree that training, at least, even if it's not in the test, is needed. It's the same in the bike world, you're not allowed on motorways on 125s and you don't do it on your A/A2 test either, so even people who've been riding for several years will never have been on a motorway when they first get their full license.

took my 3rd driving test yesterday and passed with only 3 minors, so thrilled and glad I passed before all these changes happened...good luck to everyone due to take their tests 😊👍

Totally agree with you on the motorway thing, I passed two years ago and was terrified of driving on the motorway for the first time!! Especially since there are no A roads where I live

Heyy man- I'm sitting my test like next week!! Pretty afraid of sitting it ahha I'm not a bad driver at all tho... any tips on stuff to do to impress the examiner more?? Also you mentioned that we are not allowed to drive on motorways- the thing is we are allowed to drive on A-roads tho (which are very similar to motorways...) anyway thanks for the vid it helped me out!

Yeh I agree they should do more on motorway driving. Also they should do more basic Maintenance on a engine, than question like “how to tell if you are low on oil” etc... and basic part replacements. For example I broke down the other day my clutch went and now been told it’s a easy fix all it is a clutch cable

I agree that some sort of motorway training needs to be given but it would be difficult to include it in the current test format as in a lot of places you wouldn't be able to reach a motorway in the test time so it'd probably have to be a second test which I don't see ever happening. I think the change to bay parking in place of the reverse round a corner is silly, there aren't many places where you can legally practise or be tested on bay parking as most people don't have access to private land and a lot of the test centres with car parks aren't owned by the DVSA so they can't use them for test. Doing the reverse round a corner is just a good as it is exactly the same principle as reversing into/ out of a bay, it's just a curb instead of another car.

My pet peev are lane hoggers. The amount of traffic issues caused by people who simply don't understand that if there's nothing to the left of them they should pull over to that lane is staggering... This is particularly irritating on dual-lane A roads. (Looking at you, A127.)

I personally think a compulsory resit of the full current driving test for the over 70s every 2 years is a good idea. End of the day they cause more accidents (even if it's not their car being smashed up) than young drivers. So this would be a good idea to monitor that they are still of a standard that's safe for the road, if not then it's a revocation of the license. And before you feel sorry for poor old Gladis, just remember, they have free bus passes and they only go around visiting people to knit with or make jam, hardly important, especially when they could potentially be putting you and your family at risk.

The turn in the road (3 point turn) I’ve done this a lot but he reverse around the corner I’ve never done

does anyone have a rough idea of when the changes are taking place? on the gov uk site under "what happens on the test" it still talks about the current style test. i have a test booked end of Jan 2017 which i may be changing to Feb. Cheers

Took my test today and passed! My advice would be KEEP doing your cheeks (looking in the mirrors and also check your BLIND SPOT EVERY TIME you stop) thought i'd come back and give some tips for someone else to benefit from! good luck.

recently came across your channel and like the content keep it up. The way to get cheaper insurance video might help me. as i have a corsa and my insurance ends next month but i had an accident in may and the price will rise so might sell my corsa and possibly go for a 1.4 or 1.6 diesel

Motorway courses is a plus for me , but all driving instructors should teach us on how to read a map is a must . Sat nav's are ok but can go wrong so you need a back up ( Map ).

I've booked my test and I've learnt all the Manoeuvers my instructor taught, but can they still change it even after booking and prepared for it?

I did my test around a month ago i think it would be a good idea for some sort of motorway experience because when I got my car I when some where not local and we picked it up and tried to avoid the motorway like wild fire got lost 10 times but ended up on the motorway geting on it was like nothing iv experianced before driving when was on it tho was easy and could relax to some extent ... love your videos helped me get used to thing explaining night driving what i avoided for a week drove to work in the morning and drove it back in the evening befor ut got dark and left it and home if i had to drive in the dark so thank you

what they should do is L plates for learners and the p plates for the first 2 years provisional ( and not optional ) so other people know that they are new drivers.

They need to have a motorway section on the test. I passed my test a few months ago and was scared to use the motorway for a few weeks lol. Also think they should keep the 3 point turn because I use that quite​ a lot

Absolutely, motorway stuff needs to be on there. I'm currently learning now, and I've been on the dual carriageways a few times, so theoretically if they can do that, they should be able to find some way of teaching people about motorways.

i have noticed a huge differnce between learners turning corners and you or me, you or i would indicate 3 seconds before, and slow down to a reasonable speed, a learner would indicate 10 seconds before and slow to a crawl, we wouldnt do a 3 pointer at snails pace, we would do a u-ey in the next T junction if safe, if not do a 3pointer in the side road

I failed my test earlier this month, my next test is mid January. Will this my put in place for then or will it be the old format?

I'm a Beginner will have my first driving practice tomorrow I'm bit anxious how things may go😌

Passed my test in November I am desperate to start driving but the insurance cost is way too high

i failed my test on the 10th and ive been trying to book a last min cancellation test... its so hard i initially got one in bloody MAY! but i found one in march... i need to get one in early JAN!!

So the nearest motorway from me is about 2 hours away, you think the examiner is gonna ask me to drive all the way up there? lol

a lot these drivers would want to go again for their driving tests lot they would just mow you down and then when you try and cross the road they put up speed they don't care if they knock u down or not a lot them pure ignorant they have no time for the pedestrian trying to cross road
