Thank you! I am living in Turkey and energy is expensive here too (like every other things) :(. I am all ears for your advices. Have a nice day.

Thank goodness for people like you Adrian. I am all ears (and eyes) and am looking forward to whatever you may come up with. Looking at my energy prices I reckon I could recoup the cost of another decent Solar Generator in about 2 of our summers., using the one 100watt solar panel I already have. (fingers crossed)

@Sidney Bowerman Thank you so much, very kind😊. Sounds a little cliché, but we're all in this together. Even if only a few people like your good self benefit, then that's a massive win! Just adding a solar panel to any battery system or solar generator enhances its backup capability (run even if grid is down for days, subject to some sun of course). It also powers things while the sun is shining, reducing some expensive grid energy usage during the day. If you did have any topics you would like me to cover, please fire away. Cheers, Adrian

Here in Florida we pay .11 cents per kWh or 8.34 pence per kWh. Power is cheap in Florida that's why solar is a hard sell here.

@CanadianTank007 Wow! I can't remember how long ago I paid 8p per kWh. No wonder crypto mining is so popular on your side of the pond. I'm trying to do more and get a better setup to turn surplus solar into crypto to act as another offset method for the ridiculous grid prices. It's a strange concept that solar doesn't make sense in the sunshine state😎

I have been looking at the wattages of all the items in our all electric bungalow. Night storage heaters are a nightmare, despite having Economy 10. Due to a family circumstance our washing machine can be used almost daily, (always at the 'cheaper' times). Despite using low energy bulbs throughout, I was shocked to find that I had missed the two bulbs in the cooker hood, and they were 50 watt each. Not anymore they aren't. I'm looking forward to your next video.

@Sidney Bowerman Hey! How are you doing? It's great to see you hunting. Hunting for power savings that is, well done! I can only imagine how tough it is being all electric. You've nailed exactly the way people need to start thinking about energy, which is what I'm going to try and get over in the videos. Had some personal issues recently, so a little delayed I'm afraid. I don't have access to a cheaper rate on my electricity, so may I ask how much your economy 10 costs? Chipping away where you can and using solar instead of grid power can add up in the long run, but it won't happen overnight. For example, I've not run my washing machine off the grid for a number of weeks now. I've been testing my new DIY 24V 5kWh system, which I also cooked the evening meal with today (fajitas). Induction cooking is the most efficient hob cooking method I've found. Do you have an induction hob? Cheers, Adrian

I was preparing for this for years! My standing charge is 50p not 30p, the first £1 is quickly nibbled away until the supply goes past £1 then the cost is slightly less. I'm witnessing my proprietary outgoings/bills are rising alarmingly. Water is nearly double. I'm making more refinements to my finances (time to play dirty). Cut of luxury things and get them cheaper ie: suspended netflix account, use a friends + Iptv 😉 Phone contract end, pay/go. Homebrew. Pay more into my pension, less tax. Sky/Internet gone, use my phones as hotspot. The list is endless.

@skYcunian Goodness me! I feel like I'm getting a bargain over what you're paying. I'm with you on this and did have some expectation, which lead to a healthy obsession of being more self-sufficient should world events/markets take a turn for the worse. That's an excellent list, taking stock and making the changes👍 Your water bill also links into other things I've been looking at more from the prepper point of view. I want to find more ways to capture/collect/use water, not sure whether to keep it grey for washing/flushing and/or make it drinkable. I’d love to buy a piece of land and build something from scratch, fully off-grid, but able to work in all scenarios/conditions. Fingers crossed for a lottery win😊

Here are my new electricity charges Adrian. All these charges include vat. Standing charge per day is 54.999p Day Rate (or the expensive 14 hours) is 33.33p per kwh Night Rate (or the "cheap" 10 hours) is 21.683p per kwh Economy 10 times for our area are as follows. 14:00hrs to 17:00hrs, 21:00hrs to 23:00hrs, and 01:00 to 06:00hrs. On cloudy days I charge up my Swarey s500 during the cheap 10 hours, and then use it to run our tv and other bits and pieces during the expensive times. Nothing with a high demand may I add, but the satisfaction I get from merely doing something is immense.. I hope things have settled back to normal with you Adrian, and please . . . . . call me Sid.

@Sidney Bowerman Hey Sid! Thanks very much for sharing👍. I thought the 'cheap rate' would be cheaper for some reason, I guess in days gone past. You're doing exactly the right thing in terms of charging when things are cheaper (when the sun doesn't show up), every Wh helps! I completely understand what you mean about doing something to make a difference, it's satisfying and dare I say addictive for me. Things are getting back to whatever normal is now, thanks for your kind words😊. Take care

Thank you! Watching for tips! We’ve been using our AllPowers, charging through the day and then plugging the tv/sky/Xbox into it for the evening kids. Depending on Xbox use it fairs pretty well. I’d like to next look at a more permanent DIY system for our Bibo hot water machine and coffee maker, thinking one panel running to inverter etc just to run those couple appliances etc, what do you think?
@DADvinci

@Mummy Spanners Good day and thanks for sharing. This helps out other viewers too😊👍. Is it the ALLPOWERS 666 or 606 you're using for the 'entertainment' setup? You usually get more for your money with a DIY setup, although all-in-ones are more convenient for those how aren't into DIY. Saying that, the solar inverters from MPP (I've got 12V and 24V ones now) with the addition of a battery and panel(s) is a good compromise over the full DIY battery and component build. Do you know how much power the devices use? This will help with estimating the size of battery/inverter/panel(s) you may need to run them. All the best, Adrian

@@DADvinci we have the 606 which is great for the portable and emergency aspect. For the little diy setup I need to check what power I need definitely, and the allpowers type setup is obviously a big of a pain to move around to charge and then use for kitchen appliances. DIY research is next for us!

Here's a 'solar noob' question for you, Adrian, is it true that solar panels don't work if they're positioned behind a window? Does the glass actually block the sunrays from generating what the panels need? I was wondering about this because if you live in a flat with no balcony it would mean that solar power isn't a viable option.
@DADvinci
@DADvinci 2 года назад
@Wolf Enstein That's not a noob question at all! I've had it a few times before, including behind glass in vehicles. It's not ideal and it does affect the amount of power a panel can generate (from my tests). The other problem with windows, is that you need to something that fits without any shading as that also reduces the amount if can generate (as if a tree partially shaded a panel outside). I'm going to try and find a flexible panel to test again as my last one is too small, but it did show less power behind my double-glazed windows at home. There are other options coming to the market that might address this issue of using on windows, but I need to find something that everyone can get hold of, otherwise it won't be much use. Great, very relevant, question! Please keep them coming as I can use these for the videos I'm planning to produce. Cheers, Adrian

@@DADvinci Thanks for your reply, Adrian, the solar panel manufacturer who comes up with a decent fix for this problem will definitey make themselves a few quid :) .
