Important point that the inflation figures is a rate of change. Just because inflation goes to 2% doesn’t mean things are cheaper - it means they’ve stopped getting so much more expensive. They’ll still be high even when we’re being told inflation is “back under control”.
For inflation to go to 2% the rate has to be higher than the inflation that takes the money away from circulation which means there be goods but no money to buy them, so normally the prices have to go down, what makes this inflation different is the price of energy because all goods are connected to the energy market and the higher dollar exchange,

I live in Norway and we are a country that is struggling with inflation because of the price of energy products. A reality check: the inflation the UK is suffering is a result of brexit. Inflation here is higher but not apocalyptic. You would expect it to be crippling if you only listened to UK politicians saying Ukraine and coronavirus. It's a lie, it's overwhelmingly the cost of leaving the single market. The UK should join the EEA. It could get a deal that would still allow the UK to have some cake and eat it too as it is such a huge market. Hope it becomes politically viable 🙏

To be honest, Denmark and Norway are in a special situation because they export a lot of energy. And since the prices are up, they make a lot more money of it. That doesn't mean that the ordinary person profits of it. After all the cost for energy in these countries will go up as well. However the state has a lot more leeway for subsidies etc.

I never knew anyone who claimed unemployment benefits in the UK before. Today my flatmate did. She told me she has to apply to two different schemes (Jobseekers allowance and Universal credits). The maximum support she can expect is rent (not bills, just the basic rent) plus GBP 333. Yes, you read that correctly. For all her expenses over an entire month INCLUDING council tax, heating, electricity and water bills, food, public transport, etc she is expected to make do with 333 quid! She was in pieces. I couldn't believe it when she told me. Her former salary is not even taken into consideration. I'm from Germany and we simply get 80% of our prior income, when going through a phase of unemployment. The benefits scheme here is ludicrous. I have never been so appalled, after hearing about this. I know she has had a very stressful time over the past few years and just needs a break of a few months. She has had a well-paying job. Now she won't be able to live of the benefits even for a month, so she's thinking about going back to the EU after being and working here for many years. I'd do the same. The way the UK cares about it's population is horrendous. I can't imagine what it would be like for anyone to live off that little. It's impossible. [333 minus 100 for bills leaves you with 233 quid for a month. That's 58.25 quid a week. What a joke!] ....That's not even touching on the issues of rent being so high no one can afford living in London anymore, the 10-month waiting lists on the NHS for seeing anyone else than your GP, the reduction in youth services, the homelessness crisis, the list is endless... There's no money being invested anywhere. It's all about tax breaks for the rich. The population is at it's worse point in years. And I don't think any of the Conservative MPs understand that.

Practical steps: Vote wisely, Spend only on necessities, Pay attention to your health, Understand that cash only loses value with time and invest it, spreading your assets (locally and internationally) and while at it, always make correct inquiries so you don't throw your money in the wind or better still, get the services of an expert (that way, you give little room for error). Made my first million earlier this year this way and I think can comfortably wait out this "phase".. Good luck!

There are lots of mixed opinions about stocks and there projection in the next coming years, I aim for short term solid gains from market correction and I'd definitely jump on the boat if I knew a thing or two about day-trading, but then again what do I really know? As an elder millennial, one of the few advantages is having lived through the Great Recession. My advice. Reduce unnecessary expenses, increase your savings by investing in financial markets and do not sell. One thing I know for sure is that diversifying your income can help insulate you from much of the craziness going on in the world.

@dani cali the only incentive private healthcare has is to make profit. You are correct that the NHS is definitely a complete shambles of neglect. Neglected by the government for the last 12 years despite an aging population, increasing cancer rates, inflation further decimating NHS budgets, spending billions on agency staff, private healthcare providers, dodgy COVID PPE and test and trace contracts. A small few stand to make billions from the privatisation of the NHS while the rest of the country suffer for it. If you want private healthcare it's available to you now to pay for, but leave everyone else to their compassionate, free at the point of use, cradle to grave, national health service

It is the worst time when inflation is at such high level that the British government decided to reduce natinal debt, if we don't run our family finance in such way, why a nation should? In a family circumstance similar to the nation faces now, we would negotiate a freeze on the interest of the debt instead of starving the family members of heating and food.

The inflation figures are a joke. It is more like 30% on food and 50% on petrol and so on. As my exact same weekly shop cost me an extra 32% and same car to fill up cost me 50% more.
not one of these people said that the difficult decision is to go after the wealth. The Government needs income so try actually going after the mega rich people and corporations then invest that money into infrastructure and public services which will generate growth. Wealth (money & assets) need to move through the economy not just get hoarded.
The solution is clear and straightforward. Increase the tax on billionaire and millionaire income, on inheritance and windfall profits adequately. Channel the money directly to all components of the welfare state - healthcare (NHS), education, energy, housing, policing and food security Everybody has to be clear that public money collected through taxation should be used only for WELFARE and not for anything else. And it is important to be clear that Welfare is a fundamental democratic right of people. Nobody should be made to PURCHASE welfare. It should be free. Crisis support such as the furlough scheme should be understood as part of welfare. Welfare measures should not create debt for people. They should never be required to repay debt incurred on money spent on welfare.
And yet wholesale gas is half the price what it was this time last year. We are just getting sand kicked in our faces. Little to choose between Tories and Labour at the minute. A vote for either of them is a vote for more of the same.
The thing is, Conservatives around the world have spent the past 40+ years creating this very society and now it's here and people look to the Conservatives for help. This is what they want. They couldn't turn things around if all of a sudden they wanted the exact opposite.
Benefit is out of control, too many working age ppl are claiming benefits. Benefit should be reserved for those who are unable to work, not those don't want to work.
I have a great IDEA: instead of loaning money from others, why not the most rich of our society, that 1% rich, pich in and actually save the country and everyone would be so proud to be British again. Consider it as a start up business... Instead of loaning money from other organisations, loan the money from the local 1% and see what would that do for the country. COME ON.... I AM SURE THEY CAN SPARE SOME CHANGE!
I feel no pride in this country. Used to feel like it was one of the best places but over the last 10 years I’ve never more felt like we are being governed by greedy old boys club full of people who have no real idea how we are all struggling. Dear British people, why do some of you don't consider going to continental Europe, like Denmark 🇩🇰? Our societies are also suffering from higher prices, but not all the talk about higher taxes (hard to make them higher). Our systems still work. Have a lot of green energy and well-insulated homes. We speak English as a second language, like the same sports (mostly) and probably make the best beer in the world. Quite friendly, I would say. No need to stay, if the system in the U.K. is about to fail.
It's a lot to ask for a person to leave behind where they grew up, their home, their family, their friends, their job and their comfort for an unfamiliar country
