Cody is another “real country” artist that doesn’t use pop beats and repetitive lyrics. He’s become more mainstream than Tyler, Sturgill, or Colter but he’s really, really kept to his roots. He’s a good one to dive into.

This song always gets to me. I’ve seen him do it live and it’s such an upbeat melody, but a tragic story. My mom is an ER nurse and i can’t bare to think of how David’s mom reacted, let alone my own mom, to see her son arrive DOA. The line “the poor folks they go to work or they go to war” just hits different, like shit that’s a lot of people’s only options. Coming from California and now living in the south it’s very real. It really is a great song! Cheers mate!

This is my current favorite Cody Jinks song. It covers alot of things that is true in Small Town America. I agree it's so well written you don't have to try to remember the lyrics there just in your head after one listen. I grew up in a small town, we had under 50 kids in highschool you didn't have to be best friends with some one to know them well, and this song just hits perfect when your dealing with tragedy in small towns where you know everyone. I am a volunteer fire fighter and when we get called to a scene you know the people involved Everytime.

Great reaction. To me this is one of the best written songs I have heard lately. Just such a vivid visual picture painted. Been a Jinks fan for awhile for sure. I’d recommend a fellow Kentuckian Dillon Carmichael for a reaction. He is the nephew of John Michael Montgomery and Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry. Classic country sound.

Very poignant song! Such a tragic story that's all too often repeated these days. Love that lyric "the poor folks, they go to work or they go to war." Defiantly something that runs true throughout most of the South, especially the older generations. During the Great Depression especially, sons would sign up for the military (the army usually, but the navy if they were near the Gulf or the east coast,) so they could earn a little money to send home while also no longer stretching resources at home.

Thanks for that song hadn't heard of it. Tyler childers in nose to the grindstone puts it best the dad is telling the son to be better than the father telling. Him things to keep in his mind of how to accomplish this. The son answers the dad, daddy I'm trying, but there's to much in this world I can't seem to shake. That says it for a lot of us.

Unfortunately David is not a true story.. he came out in an interview with Stone Cold Steve Austin saying he was practicing his song writing and wanted to write a song from 3rd person. He wanted to have a happy upbeat song with sad lyrics and it turned out phenomenal. Awesome to see the UK finding Cody Jinks. Love the reaction. Keep up the good work!

The song David is purely fictional. I shot the video you are reviewing. I am friends with Cody. He has never been in the military. Thanks for the review!
