I have a bass uke. Tuning is identical to a standard bass. (I’m primarily a bass player so all the thumbs they’re using throw me.) These are really a joy to play- bending notes is so easy, and the tone is so warm. I take mine with me as a practice instrument because it’s so portable and I don’t need an amp, but when I do play it amped in front of an audience, it always elicits comments. Every bass player should add a bass uke to their collection. (Like we really need more instruments... glancing at the seven various ones on my rack and around my room.)

I play my Uke Bass more than my regular basses. I absolutely love the stand up bass tone it creates. Have played with mine live as well in a jazz trio. Super fun.

Yeah, that warm tone is just so great, and it’s so easy to slide on.

The jam at the end was soo fun. I have no idea how to play the bass and just started taking up the guitar, but the uke bass got me pretty interested in trying it out

Can you strum on this instrument?
@erikkennedy8725
@erikkennedy8725 3 года назад
It’s absolutely more similar to a bass guitar than a ukulele. But, if you want to strum a bass, go for it 😁

What's the song he plays at 1:25?
@TheStringdom
@TheStringdom 4 года назад
I think its just a standard walking blues pattern, no song in particular. Reminds me a bit of "Sweet Home Chicago" from the Blues Brothers soundtrack if you wanted to compare it for inspiration :) ... also I just happened to see Blues Brothers on TV the other night...

What's the length of this bass uke?
@erikkennedy8725
@erikkennedy8725 3 года назад
They’re basically a baritone uke with rubber strings. They play identical to an electric bass with a shorter scale.

The ukulele has not originated from Hawaii. I wonder why everyone thinks it is.
@TheStringdom

There was a pretty big craze for ukuleles as souvenirs when Hawaii's tourism boomed in the early 20th century. Apparently a lot of Californians brought them back to the US mainland, and it became a symbol of Hawaii in American pop culture, even though its roots are further back in Madeira and Portugal. There's a great book on the ukulele by John King and Jim Tranquada if you want to know more! :)
