Russia is the wealthiest country in minerals. They already have lithium😂. Sure Ukrainian minerals will pay for the war but it's not why they are at war
It's Putin and his oligarchs greeds. It is never enough for him. And Putin wants to turn the clock back to Sovjet era as if that ever worked. In any case Putin ruined any cooperation between Russia and Ukraine for 2 generations minimum. The hate will live longer than he will.
This person changes their user ID after writing a comment... suspicious... Why Russian trolls comment negatively on every news video, which exploits known facts about Russia?
It is not a country, it is the oligarchs and elites in which some reside in the USA. The US government is just the tool to get control of the resources.
Lithium is...are you ready? Lithium is necessary for Nuclear Fusion. But War and people are dying in big numbers it's horrifying and again it's because Elites deceived the common people... But the same can happen in Europe and if someone thinks about Reason, an Idea 💡 not Antipod then when it starts it will be horrific, inhuman, humiliating... but soon everyone will be poor so maybe there will be no War just hunger...who knows
Ukraine has Europe's third largest shale gas reserves, at 1.2 trillion cubic meters. There are two potentially large shale gas fields. The Yuzivska gas field located in Donetsk Oblast and Kharkiv Oblast, and the Olesska gas field in Lviv Oblast and Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast
This is unverified information- nothing worth producing. There were many countries claiming exactly the same, but other than USA nowhere it materialized.

@@izajahmed8863don't be nitpicky. They obviously mean the area of Ukraine. In a democratic and capitalistic driven Russia, Russia would create immense financial ties to both benefit from the resources and the international dependents of them. Russia could've just done the China style belt and road in Ukraine by binding them to contracts. That is of course if they really just want their resources, which if oil and gas is declining might be actually getting more likely because of the war 🥲
Is DW suggesting that Russia went after Ukraine for Lithium as USA went after Iraq for oil ? now 35 % of USA oil comes from Iraq DW need to remember that there was peace agreement signed by Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul in March 2022 and Mr Jonas Boris stop it that could save the Lithium 😂
Nobody is fighting over lithium. It is too common. There is lots of it in the ground. If the US wants to buy anything from an independent Ukraine it is Titanium. Russia has been selling it even with the war.
Russia already has practically limitless natural resources. They have basically everything on the periodic table buried under the ground in Siberia somewhere they just have to find it and dig it out. So why would they want/need more?
It's not that Russia needs the resources. It's Europe that needs the resources and thus Russia is in a position to exploit this need for political gain.

DW wants to spin the narrative that Russia attacked Ukraine because of Lithium. Unfortunately the expert didn’t back this up. So they cut her off and moved to the next expert.
That's because the topic is hot. Look what is happening around the Serbian lithium political aspect. In Serbia, lithium has become a divisive topic. Citizens, environmental activists, and green political parties stand on one side. On the other stands a major company supported by Serbia’s ruling parties and certain political forces from within the EU. Polarisation between supporters and opponents of lithium extraction has made genuine debate impossible. The question of whether lithium mining is even needed - and under what conditions it might be acceptable - rarely figures.
@@youxkio exactly, thank for explaining so nicely! We are fighting against that lithium mine for years now. It will be complete ecological disaster for our country. Great exposure of democracy for Ukraine fighters. Lithium, rare earth, resources under ukranian soil and not a single word about hundreds of thousands lives lost in the war for democracy (resources), thanks for the coming out.
The war is mostly about Sevastopol. Its Russia's only warm water port and its an amazing base to operate subs out of. NATO wants to take it, and Russia wants to keep it.
The west needs better, cheaper, and faster access to these deposits because the west can use these resources much more effectively than Russia could. Hence they must not fall into Russian hands. Russia is a massively corrupt country. It is tremendously rich in resources but comparatively little trickles down to the average person. Money is being squandered and stolen on a daily basis. One look at the standard of living of an average Russian citizen is all you need to understand their government don't care for their citizens. Hence gas and mineral resources must not fall to Russia.

Lithium iis becoming far less valuable as many new sources are found worldwide, and lithium is being replaced by more efficient, energy dense, less toxic, and cheaper chemistries. Food (rich topsoil and water is far more secure resources.
More scarce than food or water is building-ready constructible sand. I've heard of more violence from sand mafias than I have with water mafias here in the present day

These are things and only humans put value on these things. In nature, they do not have any inherent value to any other living being other than humans. If humans consume less, then there is no need for these resources and hence no need for war.
Indeed, and there is gas in the region as well :) There's many kremlin bots pointing out that Russia has more minerals, but that's beside the point, the Russian government just doesn't want others to have them. They want to keep as many foreign parties as possibles dependent on their raw materials.

@shahkobat9481 Ukraine is a Titanium goldmine. The rest would mostly be 2nd sources to ensure China is not a single supplier. Not that the other minerals do not exist elsewhere. China has invested heavily in refining so even if metals are mined elsewhere many get refined in China.

As far as I remember my USSR school's geography course, agricultural assets of Ukraine are much more valuable then lithium. Especially considering world population growth and demand for food.

Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity. In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas. If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy. Zelensky admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements. Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time. Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns. 20th September, 2021. Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO. NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter). We should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster? Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest. Zelensky tried to invoke article 5 under false pretenses. Remember the incident in Poland. Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. Poroshenko said, “Our children will go to schools and kindergartens-theirs will hide in the basements”. Russians will never forget the 2014 Odessa massacre. The whole world needs to know about it. Why was Denis Kireev eliminated? He was a member of Ukraine's negotiating team during the peace negotiations. He wanted to help his country. Ukraine has a hit list. They target artists, journalists and ordinary citizens. Hundreds of children are on this list. 13 year old Faina Savenkova was placed on this list. Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is on this list. Jimmy Dore (American stand-up comedian, podcaster) and Aaron Maté (Canadian writer and journalist) are on this list. There is evidence that Ukrainian troops have been indiscriminately shelling civilians in Donbas (they used petal mines and targeted areas where there was no military presence). The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present. Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave. Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P. The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims). The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter. I have done a lot of research and it took me a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion. I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written. Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified.
The Russian empire haven’t fought a war for resources & land since 18th century. It have so much land & resources, it sold Alaska & abandoned 14 nations that were under it’s yoke.
Russia is not after the lithium in Ukraine. Russia is trying to create a safety buffer zone between itself and NATO. The cost of the war in Ukraine is far higher than what Russia would have spent to buy or trade for lithium in the open market.

Austria 5. Finland Get your own lithium Germany. 🤔👎
Perhaps one day you will all learn what it really means to be Russian. We have $75 trillion in USD in natural resources alone still unearthed. We have everything we need my friends 📈💰
Ordinary Russians have nothing to do with the immense resources. Russian oligarchs and elites profit the most. That's why they see Russia as a place for earning money. But, their kids live, study, own property in Switzerland, London, etc. Russian working class should study and own property in Russia, and continue working for the elites. Russia only wanted neutrality in Ukraine. The US wanted military bases in Ukraine, wanted to sell its LNG at e exorbitant prices to the EU, wanted unrestricted access to Ukrainian mineral deposits and wanted to boost its weapons sales to the EU. Thats what this war is about.
I think it is more stopping Putin's butchery before he starts attacking further West. at least that's the most reasonable explanation that Sweden and Finland joined NATO other than realizing their neutrality would give them no more protection from Putin's attack than Ukraine's.

Why would Russia offerer a peace deal (Istanbul Talks) that would have preserved Ukraine territorial integrity one month into the war if its objective was to conquer land for resources?
Yes, Putin has always offered to honor the Budapest Memorandum if given total control of Ukraine resources, as he and his oligarchs need more wealth to steal as the did to the Russian people in the '90s.
Because they either assumed Ukraine would back down and become a puppet state, thus rendering their resources under Russian control. Ir they assumed it would be rejected based on its absurdity, and it would have given pretext for Russia to conquer the whole country.
Both Russia and the US have been imperial colonial settler states for centuries. Russia, a little longer. But after Lenin gave Ukraine independence and the Budapest Memorandum both the US and Putin lost the right to invade.
@@thetombaxter Where did you study history? Lenin did not give Ukraine independence, but took it away. Ukraine was independent. Lenin conquered it. And then Ukraine was much worse than now, but the Ukrainian lands were transferred to the Russian Socialist Federal Republic, explaining that Ukraine has too much fertile soil and should be shared with small, poor Russia.
@@OlesMenzer Ukrainian nationalism developed and, following the Russian Revolution in 1917, the short-lived Ukrainian People's Republic was formed. Ukraine became an original UN member post WWII. Crimea was transferred to Ukraine in 1956.
