Ukraine is without doubt my winner I love everything about it but what I love most is how they’ve done the impossible and made me like a rap, I do not like rap at all but with this song its good and blends well together, UKRAINE TO WIN!!!! 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
Musically it's pretty amazing. I was expecting something lacklustre but yeah Ukraine delivering again. You can see why they've been consistently at the top of the leaderboard each year with masterpieces like these! Alyona Alyona is the biggest rapper in Ukraine and a female one is something a bit different, whilst Jerry Heil came 3rd in Vidbir with a very haunting song. Heil is particularly my favourite of the two because she's changed her style to a more choral one, using an operatic voice to haunt people with clever lyrics and dark melodies! The final climax at the end is when Jerry pulls out her more operatic voice to add another layer on the top.
Again a very realistic and pertinent reaction. They had major sound issues in the national final and they still sounded really good. Jerry Heil had a different track in her ear piece so she had to remove them straight away and Alyona Alyona's voice was actually muted on the chorus. They performed the song live on Ukrainian radio and it sounded amazing!
They both are songwriters. Jerry Heil has actually a profession education, she is pretty popular in Ukraine and she is good at writing catchy songs. Alyona Alyona before becoming a perfomer was a kindergarten teacher and a social worker and lirics of her songs has a social problematitcs in them. The text of a song is about women's empowerment.
Thanks for your analysis and explaining. Gave me great new insights and helped me to a better reading and understanding this Eurovision entry. THANK YOU! 👏🏻
Sorry, I don't know your name, but I want to thank you for the review and fair criticism. You very carefully, as an expert, analyzed this piece of music into its components. I was very interested in listening to you.❤
Ukraine is not kidding, as usual. This one had to grow on me, but it is absolutely fantastically written, and combines a lot of great musical elements. 4th victory on the way?
Fun fact. at 1:20 (in this video), she's removing her in-ear because there were technical issues with it. so she did practically the entire song without it
Этот вокал,тембр,мелодичность и энергетика присуща только украинцам. Это есть в старых народных украинских песнях. Украинский язык очень сбалансирован и музыкальный. Он создан для пения.
This song feels like it combines the best elements of 1944 and Stefania, the two latest Ukrainian winners. Out of all the songs revealed so far, I think it's most likely to win. I just hope that if this song does win, Ukraine becomes safe enough to host in 2025.
Yes, if they win I hope they can host by next year. Also, I hope if they win there won't be too much theorizing that they won because of the war, because this so *clearly* deserves to win! 💕
I agree it's a great song but if it won, I doubt the EBU would allow Ukraine to host unless the war ended by May - as it's such a big event to organise I don't think they'll take a risk offering it to a country that may not be in a position to host. They also won't want other countries to withdraw on safety grounds.
in this song, it is worth paying attention to the text, to the meanings embedded in it. the girls sing about how we are all sinful people with our own path. rap about what society demands of girls, what criteria it forces them to meet. is she too thin, or fat, married or childless...
This song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it! From the first seconds till the very end! Love love love it! And the meaning of it is so beautiful, so empowering
I love this song and I love Alyona & Jerry but this isn't quite my favorite among their work. Together they have produced a lot of amazing works. Really recommend anyone who likes this song to check it out for Eurovision fans especially if anyone remembers Monika Liu from 2022's Eurovision check out "Dai Boh" by Alyona, Jerry & Monika.
Thank you for your reaction - Ive been waiting for your thoughts! Ukraine doesn't usually revamp, do they? Id only like to see a little of what you mention at the end - but honestly, only to increase their chances because I want them to win so badly. If I were in Europe I would definitely vote for them! 💕💕💕
There were small problems with the sound due to the fact that the national selection was held in a bomb shelter, but at Eurovision the sound will be even better, the girls will work on it
This one I like quite a bit! 8.5! I write this before I have heard Rachel's opinion. At first I wasn't sure but it builds to something special - this is in my top 5 so far. Norway still has my favorite along with France so far this year! Both of those songs get a 10 from me!
Thank you Rachel! You are my favorite person on esc RU-vid. I love the song! It’s my favorite so far. It reminds me a bit of Vesna from last year. Love, Elliott
This song amazing. Jerry Heil is a really talented artist. I cant remember whether or not you reacted to all of the songs from Vidbir 2023 but if not I highly recommend you listen to her song "When God Shut the Door". It was my winner and it gives me goosebumps to this day.
Good song, main vocalist has a beautiful voice and the whole thing makes you emotional, especially when you watch the video behind the scene....really communicating the blackness and horror of war, the hand searching for help, the light in the end which i guess its hope....one of my favourites this year, a 8/10 for me..
I really appreciate your perspective. Unlike many other reactors here, you're not just vibing to the song, but actually deconstruct the track and explain what's working sonically and what doesn't. Also, you were spot on with the London Grammar reference. I believe Jerry started her career with a similar sound in mind, yet her kitschy songs had more commercial success.
I suppose from a musical point of view it's quite repetitive in the choral part, not many changes of shifts or keys but that doesn't matter to me, it's so beautiful! My number 1 ❤
This is clearly a contender for the win and I'd be quite gobsmacked if it finished outside the top five in May. It's not a big favourite of mine but I do enjoy it.
Thank you so much for the analysis! I, too, like the first part plus the Rap part more than the ending. I feel there is a lack of catharsis moment to wrap it all up, just like you said. And I'm dying here to hear your take on Ulveham. It cannot come soon enough!
Yeah, this one's got winner written all over it (as things stand). And unlike Kalush Orchestra, this is a Ukrainian song that I wouldn't mind winning the whole thing this time. The underlying political events of 2022 always "ruined" the win for me, if that makes sense. I just hope the same thing doesn't happen this year with a certain participating country that I won't mention here ... As for this song, Jerry's vocal at 1:18 sounds very much like a Go_A song that I can't bring to mind right now, but that's more likely to be a Ukrainian music thing, and not a direct copy. She has that ethnic vocal quality of Kateryna in places. Seven out of ten? That's harsh, Rachel 🙂
