The power of music is often underestimated. The Israelites sent the musicians ahead in battle (Psalm 68:25). The hand of the LORD came upon the king of Isreal when a musician played (2 Kings 3:15). Luther's hymn reminds us that music is still important in battle.
Music plays an important role in Eastern Europe. Through music, the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania gained independence from the Soviet Union at the end of the Cold War ('Singing Revolution').
In Ukraine, we see music made on the streets by military personnel, and in the bomb shelters by professional musicians, as well as children. Music encourages, inspires, creates a bond, comforts, lifts people out of the miserable reality, gives perspective, shows appreciation, and most of all, music gives hope!
Following many others, here is my version of the Ukrainian National Anthem.
