During the 1980s my father and my uncle were doing their military service and while my father got assigned to tank engine maintenance, my uncle was put in the infantry and they were just digging tranches all the time.

Ukrainian mindset at its finest - that is one of those few nations that never learned to back down and surrender. Tough place, when it comes to geography.
