Ukrainians pay tribute at funeral of U.S. volunteer killed in Bakhmut 

Christopher was a good man, a good friend and he is missed. I watched him grow from a little boy into manhood. He had wisdom beyond his age. Chris knew the only way for evil to succeed was for good men to do nothing. Rest easy my friend. Perhaps one day we shall meet again in the great beyond.

Children of my children will never forget. Wise words I hope everyone will take to heart. 🇨🇦

This brought me to tears. What a fitting tribute to a fallen hero. Her words about her and future children and grandchildren not forgetting those who fought and died and honoring them instead really is so touching.

The amount of respect the Ukrainians pay for their foreign fallen is absolutely stunning and humbling. Not just for my American brother, but also that fallen Georgian volunteer recently as well. Its extremely obvious every fallen fighter effects them massively, and they treat us no differently. I have nothing but respect for these people.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends". This soldier along with thousands of his allies was not selfish. Glory to our Heavenly Father, salvation to Ukraine!

I am deeply moved by this video and plan to share it among friends. It is amazing how the Ukrainian people are treating this fallen American as if he were one of their own sons. This just goes to show what good people Ukrainians are. Major respect. This is a cause and a nation worth fighting for. I hope every free nation in this world will continue to send aid to Ukraine until they take back all of their territory and rebuild the cities that have been destroyed by Russian bombs. As the fallen Marine so well stated ----- "it is just the right thing to do". If all of us could make the commitment to "doing the right thing", this will be a much better world in which to live and raise our families.

Thank you honoring my fellow American - a true hero. And thank you to all Ukrainians fighting, surviving and just plain existing in Ukraine throughout this war. Ukraine has awakened the free world with it's courage.

This is some heavy duty emotional damage. I salute them for honoring this young man who in chivalrous fashion gave the ultimate sacrifice for his conviction in fighting for a foreign nation. That is some heroic stuff. While we should not glorify war, we must honor the fallen. Now I am an ex-Army vet & while I served during war time I never deployed. I got out & had enough time that they could no longer call me back up. I am lucky I didn’t go as I’ve seen it scar multiple solder I knew & lost buddies & fellow soldiers I knew. My former platoon sergeant who was an E-6 Staff Sergeant at the time, later became an E-9 Command Sergeant Major. He had 20+ years of service & stayed in past his initial retirement eligibility. He was the highest or one of the highest senior enlist Non-Commissioned Officers in the Afghanistan Theater of Operations when a suicide bomber killed him & several others. So sad & tragic as he left a wife & 3 kids IIRC. We often get complacent & take our freedoms & quality of life for granted. Many worry about silly trivial & petty stuff because we enjoy so much freedom & are so far removed physically from conflict, trauma & the chaotic destruction ravaging other areas of the world. Remember there are young soldier out there probably freezing or sweating feeling distressed & fearful in war zones where death could come at any minute. Anyway, I am ambivalent about the Ukraine War. Russia invaded a sovereign nation & they reserve the right to defend themselves but I dislike war & war mongering which should always be a last resort. It’s sad & tragic & it’s the young soldiers like this one who give the ultimate sacrifice. Also it’s the civilians who suffer the most as indiscriminate & reckless bombings & artillery not only knock out all amenities & comforts but usually always kill an egregious number due to collateral damage. Some tyrannical states have no conscience when it comes to collateral damage against civilians which They actually believe is part & parcel to war as far as they’re concerned. Same with looting, raping, torturing civilians & killing POWs. This is a war of annihilation. Sadly 75+ years ago the German Wehrmacht fought on the very same Ukrainian soil which saw some of the bitterest & bloodiest fighting of WW2. The world said “Never agin” in May of 1945. Here we are years later & the same soil is having blood spilled all over it again. Man has a sick proclivity toward violence & war. I hope & pray some type of diplomatic solution & peace can happen soon. RIP Soldier🫡😞 Thank you to the Ukranians for recognizing this soldier’s selfless service & for honoring him. He gave his life for your country. I hope that this somber tribute they are giving him can assuage the pain from the loss for the family even if just a bit & that the soldier is at peace.

Pretty incredible seeing that woman switch from speaking Ukrainian to English paying tribute in both languages. Obviously I know being bilingual isn’t even that rare but somehow feels more moving.

It's always a sad occurrence in the death of a soldier. But this was a beautiful gesture from a grateful nation fighting for peace. I hope the United States continues it's support for the Ukrainian war effort.....whatever it takes. A lot of people are understandably bent out of shape because of the money we are spending on the war, as it is worsening inflation. But imagine the astronomical cost if we were fighting Russia ourselves, or as a NATO military alliance???? The cost is far too great to let the Russians win. They must be defeated at all costs.
