Sam Ryder is the artist chosen by the BBC to represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2022 with the song "Space Man"

The initiative of the President of Ukraine
UNITED24 was launched by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy as the main venue for collecting charitable donations in support of Ukraine. Funds will be transferred to the official accounts of the National Bank of Ukraine and allocated by assigned ministries to cover the most pressing needs.

I can see the Freddie Mercury comparison. He is a Queen fan and has posted Queen covers. The latest was ‘somebody to love” that he performed with Queen at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert at Wembley stadium. You should check it out, it’s AMAZING 😄

I’m watching this nearly a year on - I think our Sam should have won he was so amazing, but I do love Kalush Orchestra and I will see them live in Liverpool a week before Eurovision! It's looking more and more likely that Ukraine is going to be victorious in this horrible war, and I'm so glad. Love from London. xx Incidentally, I noticed at about 8:00 the subtitles you put on said "somewhere the climax really went ants" and I didn't know what that meant until you ran your fingers down your arm. But I get it now! In English we say "it gave me goose bumps" for that feeling, but I think your idiom is better! It makes so much more sense. 😄

While the Eurovision Song Contest being hosted in the UK next year - my understanding is that it'll be presented with a very Ukrainian feel (it's usually hosted by the nation that won it which of course this year was Ukraine - deservedly so - not just a political vote, which the Eurovision is usually famous for). I'm really looking forward to that. You'd love the number of Ukrainian flags being flown on houses here where I live in South Wales, United Kingdom (more than Welsh flags in some places) in support for your nation and current plight against an egotistical aggressor. I'm glad you liked our entry too - we usually come at the bottom of the list these days - again due to political bias - but Sam Ryder came second because this song too is rather special! As to why the Eurovision is hosted in the UK - back in the days when I worked for the BBC, it was relatively well known inside the corporation that the BBC was the default broadcaster should the winning nation be unable to host - at the end of the day, it's not because we came second.

Hello from the UK! I agree with Victoria about Sam's vocals - definitely a big Freddy Mercury influence! Some people think Elton John, but for me it's Freddy all the way. I was very happy with the result! I wanted Sam to be in the top 3, and he did. To be beaten by Kalush was very acceptable result for me! I was listening to their song Stefania for 2 months before the contest, and it's a brilliant piece. Always loved Ukrainian Eurovision entries, especially Go_A's song SHUM last year. I thought they should have won!

Just heard today that unfortunately the powers that be at Eurovision have decided they will not be able to host next years Eurovision in Ukraine because of the ongoing war there and have asked the UK to host instead. So sorry that Ukraine won't be hosting - nothing would have made us happier than to watch you put on a fantastic show considering everything you're going through at the moment. Congratulations on your win. Love and peace, friends. I dare say that the UK would have won (for the first time in 25 years) with this great song and incredible singer but such is life. Sam's vocal tone and range has been compared to Freddie Mercury's since the start of his career but he's no Adam Lambert and he is the first to admit to that.
