At least 13 people were killed and 60 were injured in a Russian missile attack on the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv.
Oleksandr Lomako, the city’s acting mayor, said three explosions ripped through a busy area of the city just after 9am local time.
The strike hit a multi-storey building and damaged municipal infrastructure in the busy civilian area, local officials reported.
Rescue teams attempted to free those trapped under the rubble in the aftermath of the attacks, with official images showing the wounded being carried away on stretchers.
Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine had lacked sufficient air defences to intercept the strike and urged the country's allies to send more missiles.
