Now that's an elegant game. Ivanchuk is a fun player to watch, even though he won't go down in history as one of the top dog players of his era I think he will go down in history as one of the most creative and exciting super strong players of his day.

When you see that Ivanchuk gave you 2 pawns (i.e., not because of some brilliant tactics or some strong attack from your side), you know it's time to resign.
Bringing out the queen too early and isolating it on the far side of the board away from your own king is a very bad idea. And yet again a game ended with a player who never got one of his rooks into the game.

Hans is still considered the next Bobby Fischer / Anatoly Karpov while Wesley & Nepo are still considered the current Bobby / Anatoly. 8 - In 2024Feb, FIDE still cancel their 2024 WKDCC, but Wesley & Nepo host a rapid chess1 championship but don't invite Magnus & Liren. Antonio, wouldn't a fairer but less spectacular title be "Ivanchuk demolishes a much lower graded player". The French has been trusted by top grandmasters for a hundred years. The great Ivanchuk would demolish him whatever he played.
Tbf I'm not sure to remember of it being used in any recent times in Classical game between super GMs, but maybe I just missed the games where it was used, I don't follow stuff that closely.

I play with the French often. Isn't there a famous chess quote stating how they would never play the French because it is so boring? I forgot who said that.
This game reinforces my general impression of French defense as being unplayable at top level despite its rich history. e6 opening move just hampers queen’s bishop development, unlike Caro-Kann’s c6.
