I bought this after your reviews but need more sound on it. Thanks for making this review. I did buy a coffee and the leather pick is kinda' fun to use.

I love the clarity of carbons, but gee, to me they sound very thin. Is there a string that has that clarity but has body/oomf as well? Thanks!

String choice is incredibly subjective to personal tastes. What I like can easily differ from the next person. You could try Worth Browns, probably mediums; or even D’Addario Titanium (which I do not like at all) as they both differ from the Nylgut and Clear Fluorocarbon. You could also try the newer Martin Polygut strings, which used to be the Aquila Lava strings.

I agree with you. I have also bought the Martin 400 to try on the new Bamboo tenor. Happy you did this review. Keep up the good work as you really do a fair test of Ukuleles which looks inside as well as the outside bodies and sound.

Very interesting. I have recently bought a Kala tenor Pacific Walnut with Nylgut strings and the C string is very dull especially at the 5th fret. I will try the martins to see if it helps before contacting the dealer to see if there is a fault. Thank you for this video.

There was a big uproar in the ukulele community about wolf tones on KoAloha tenors at C# (3rd string). I have an Opio Tenor. It’s present in that model, too. Some ukuleles just have a wolf tone, a pitch (or two) where their body just doesn’t resonate properly, even if you change the strings. I decided I could live with mine, as I never even heard it (C# tends to be a note I don’t play a lot) until ukulele forums pointed it out. Different strings may help, but there may still be a dead spot. Incidentally, this ukulele remains in use at the coffee house ministry we donated it to!

Interesting comparison. I have a Martin soprano that came with M600. I love how they sounded. After a few months I noticed shredding on the A string at the 3rd fret. I have other ukes with some sort of Aquila strings and never had this happen. I figured it was a freak thing so I got another set of M600 and saw the same thing in the same place plus a little bit was staring up on E. I think the 2nd fret but not sure I remember clearly. I tried Aquilas but did not like the way they sounded. Finally, I switched to Worth browns and have had no issues and my Martin sounds great.

I wonder if you have a sharp fret edge on that Martin? Strings are absolutely subjective; I have browns on my Cocobolo (they came with them), but I find them too mellow on many ukuleles...plus there's more "grip" on the string, if that makes sense. The shredding part at the same place makes me want to urge you to check out the fret edge...not for the sake of the M600s, but just in general.

Good morning. I am also a Martin 600 string fan on my solid spruce top ukuleles. I just stumbled onto this video this morning about mislabeling of Martin strings. Search "Martin 600 strings fail." I will measure my string diameters from now on. Rick

I think they have this sorted now...but there was a time that they didn't...when they changed to the new green wrappers.

I have a Flight Voyager tenor which I absolutely adore except for the fact that sustain in the lower registers is not impressive. It came with D'Addario strings. I'm wondering if changing to Martin's will improve low register sustain on it.

I would try worth browns, which would be warmer in sound. The Martins will reflect more of the sound of the Titanium strings.

Could you do a video on how to tie strings. I've never been able to do it properly and they don't seem to stay tied when I begin to bring the strings up to pitch.
