I learned to go around the circle of fifths on the piano, and you're opening up the ukulele fretboard for me. Eternal gratitude to you Phil.

This was amazing! I'm still a beginner and can't change quickly between the more complicated chords. So helpful.

Verrrry clever, Phil! And, very much appreciated. That circle of fifths keeps getting more and more interesting. I wonder, out of curiosity, who first came up with the concept? Thanks for another excellent lesson.

Thanks George! It goes right back to Nikolay Diletsky in the 1670s.

I think it was either George V or Edward VII?

Very interesting, thank you! And I noticed if you stay with the first triangle shape and just do those, it’s E7, D7, C7, and Bb7.....and if you go with just the second shape counting down, it’s A7, G7, and F7

Phil, you explain things so well that even a novice like me can understand. Oh by the way, I'm planning to pre-order the Millar Phil Doleman soprano today! Is it made similarly to the one you are using in this video?

Thank you! My prototype is almost identical to the production model. I think the only diffrence is that the fingerboard on mine doesn't quite reach the soundhole, purely cosmetic.

Thanks Phil. Brilliant - I had not seen that before. Am I confused but does this also fit really well with your “diagonal” barre tip some while ago? I loved that tip! It seemed when I tried it this tip that I could alternate the regular and slopey barre as I descended the fretboard to speed up my chord changes. I just love your tips, they really make me think.
@PhilDoleman
@PhilDoleman 3 года назад
Thanks Robert. Yes, well spotted! If these are played as 4 string chords you could indeed use the diagonal.

Thanks Phil, these tips are a massive help, average guitarist of 30 odd years started learning uke this week. What were the main chords in the I've got rhythm song?
@PhilDoleman
@PhilDoleman 3 года назад
Thanks Scott. I'm playing C, A7, Dm7, G7 / C, A7, Dm7, G7 / C, C7, F, Fm / C, G7, C, C (If I were playing the full song, I'd repeat this whole line) Then the bridge as shown in the video (E7, A7, D7 G7) Then, if I were to finish it of, I'd play the first line again, but just once this time. Sometimes players substitute the A7 for an Am7, as I do in this playalong... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HNyNgr5sCyY.html
