In 1974, the Norwegian Parliament granted license for Norway's largest hydropower project ever. More than 1500 people worked on the development at peak, and the construction was officially concluded in 1988. Today, the Ulla-Førre power system plays a key role in Norwegian energy supply. The watershed covers 2000 sq km. Total output of the power plants is more than 2 gigawatts, or about 7 per cent of the total installed capacity of all Norwegian hydropower plants.
