As for Ulster being Irish..I think Cu Chulainn might dispute that. Also, does that mean Scotland is English, Canada American, Portugal Spanish? BB's right about the dodgy hammond organ though.
Consider: Scotland, smaller than Ireland, less populous, less fertile and had a land border with England. Yet it was Scotland that managed to resist English rule, because there was a single political entity. The Scots remained independant until 1603 when THEIR king became king of England. The High Kings of Ireland, like Brian Boru, had no real sovereignty over the whole island. had Boru survived he might have achieved it, but power was shared among his sons.
Indeed, damn. I'm Irish-American and even I have done enough research to understand this much. Holy crap the lack of intelligent research here is astonishing.
PS, the land that is now Portugal was part of Spain before the Reconquista and Portugal was part of the Spanish state from the 1580's to the 1640's. You're the one who said look at a map sometime, yet you now seem to think maps are irrelevant. I'm glad you agree with me, as I said, people make countries, not cartographers.
Indeed, the idiocy is with you sweetheart. The 32 counties were part of a united Ireland, under the Crown and part of the UK, not an independant republic. The 32 counties themselves were laid out in the late 1500's by William Davidson, a Welshman working for Elizabeth I. Partion divided the UK as well as Ireland. Noone is really happy with the 1922 settlement, but it is a settlement. Had Ireland been a united political entitiy in the early middleages her history would've been very different.
It was in our history ergo, the siege of Derry. There would n't have been any need of the inquisitions IF everybody was already on bended knee to ROME. Those men fought for freedom from ROMAN oppression. Today it is not as important but anyone who thinks it doesn't play a role is trying to kid themselves or others. If it was the end all and B all then NI would have voted yes to a United Ireland. But they didn't because NOT all RC's want a united Ireland.. .
The Protestants in Ulster have been there for about four or five hundred years. They could claim that enough time has passed that they have a right to stay. Just like the Normans who came and conquered England. In fact, a lot of Irish names come from Norman ones. Are you going to kick everyone with those names out for being descended from invaders of Ireland?
Maginity, countries are defined by people, not by maps. Is Portugal part of Spain? Is Canada part of the US? Is Haiti part of the Dominican Republic or vice versa? Is New Zealand realy two countries because it's on two islands not one? The majority in the six UK counties of Ulster still wish to remain in the UK, not just Prods but plenty of RC's too. Myself, I'd rather the 26 counties came back into the UK and then really Ireland could be "reunified".
Pyhrric victory I would say. Thousands of young men were slaughtered for what? Yards of Belgian mud. Fits in with my dictionary's definition of disaster. Maybe you have a different dictionary. Last poor bugger died just the other day. Thank God we didn't have to live through that.
Maybe u should have told that to successive Brit governments that u pledge ur allegiance to!!! remember it is right to defend ur land from aggressive intruders!???
Ireland IS my home, fool. Can't you read? Van is from Sandy Road all right, I met and spoke to his folks. They owned a store in California. They were very nice people. I guess getting away from your ilk changes folk.
There is one seriously F**ked up American. The people he is trying to defend he calls Falls road ghetto trash. No doubt you will be hearing from a few Irish republicans on that one. F**king hilarious.
Well said Ulster will never die because it is an intergal part of Ireland, shame on the colonial planters who claim to be Ulster people yet let the provence be partitioned what loyal ulstermen there are LOL the irony of it????!
I pledge my alliance to Northern Ireland. End of. Remeberloughall. "pepperoni"? Human life means nothing to terrorist supporters and below is a perfect example. Two men delivering pizza, who incidentally were Roman Catholics's Shot at and left for dead by IR terrorists. NO regard even for their own people. Thanks rememberloughall for solidifying my point.
Regarding Ulster's "Irishness". It is a part of Ireland, as Scotland is part of Britain and all are part of the British Isles. Being part of Ireland and being part of the the republic are not the same thing. The arrogance and ignorance of Irish Republicans is staggering. I am an English unionist and a monarchist, but I don't regard Englishmen who want a seperate English parliament or an English republic as less English than me.
yeah phoenix-it was never about religion. but when your culturally barren you`ve got to cling to something. religion being their lifeline. OUR REVENGE WILL BE OUR CHILDRENS LAUGHTER-B.S.
sounds like a glasgow rangers hun to me...lol....the famous glasgow rangers huns who supported adolf hitler in the 2nd world war, and are now more commonly known as scotlsnds shame
