the reason you had no large scale battles is you never used the option to delay...you can roll a battle over to the next turn by delaying it allowing more of your..and their ships to becoming involved. more successful delay...larger battle can be achieved.

Bloomin Boers said they were having trouble with the locals so we helped them, then a few years later the locals said they were having trouble with the Boers so we helped them (twice). An even less to play games. I've played over 500 games in 20 years. Many days I've played for 12 hours with no breaks. Done 80 plus hours a week gaming a week in the past. Now if I get to play for 2 hours a week I'm happy. So watching your videos an seeing you enjoy them, is all I can do now. This game looks really good. Best naval game I've seen in while.

During the period "fleets in being" was an important consideration that weighed heavily whether a major battle would occur. In WWI aside from some relatively minor actions, you only had the Battle of Jutland a German battle victory. It was a British strategic victory as it did nothing to advance the German effort to stop the blockade. So its not unrealistic to have few large battles. Ship warfare can be slow and boring- its not really anything like World of Warships. if you want something more realistic this is your game, if you want something quicker, lighter and less realistic, you have World of Warships.
That's revisionist history to call that a British strategic victory. The Germans weren't there that day to break the blockade, they didn't even have enough shells to accomplished that. They were there that day to make the British Fleet smaller, they they achieved that at a ruinous cost. The way the British have spin doctored Jutland, it's made their victory pre-ordained.
@@Edax_Royeaux the time the combatants didn't know the real value of the battle. The Brits won the Strategic victory by preventing the breakout and disruption of the blockade. History is 20/20 and it is evident that, in the end while the Brits got a bloody nose, their fleet prevented the German High Seas Fleet from not more than dulsatory actions for the wars remainder.
@@blastpop But again, the Royal Navy would have "prevented the breakout and disruption of blockade" no matter what because the Germans weren't there to do that. And Jutland didn't prevent the High Seas Fleet from committing dulsatory actions for the remainder of the war. Not a few months after Jutland, in the Action of 19 August 1916 the Germans deployed the High Seas Fleet, ready to repeat what they did at Jutland. What prevented these 47 Battleships from engaging was that they both fleets missed each other. The Royal Navy failed to put a stop to the High Seas Fleet at Jutland and the High Seas Fleet failed to sink any more major ships in the war. British submarine HMS E38 effectively accomplished the same thing the Grand Fleet did, but no one is calling the Action of 19 August a British strategic victory.

I think I finally figured out that the way to play the economy during the campaign is to completely max out your transports and then let that dictate how much you can build before losing money. When transports are pumped up your economy grows faster so you can keep building more and more as you go. Then when you do get into a war not only do you have a huge cushion of extra transports, you will be raking in the cash with the cash boost it gives you during war
Mack you're one of the most honest reviewers out there! I've been watching your videos for a couple years now. I love the variety of games you review and it has opened my eyes to some that I've enjoyed that I probably would have never even glanced at. He is not honest, he just bashes games, he doesn’t give real feedback about his statements. He focuses in bad games so he can continue being “honest” . There are tons of objective reviewers, this guy just complains about console and controllers. He doesn’t even use proper adjectives to describe things

Nice one mack, always look for your seal of approval with stuff like this. Big admirer of ultimate general civil war, though I found manually replenishing regiments with men and guns, for every regiment, between every single battle, really pissing tedious after a while. But will definitely check this out! Ps: is this still LH gameplay?!

I've been keeping an eye on this game for a while now, well before it came out in EA. I really really try to avoid buying games while they're still in EA, but damn this one is seriously testing my resolve.
My wife dyed her hair blue this week and I do indeed give great consideration to my chances of successful penetration. Thank you for being so inclusive of a penetration dependant minority such as myself. WAB an all inclusive gaming review channel, you have grown Mack.
The only thing that frustrates me is that some battles never happen. You keep moving their direction at the beginning of the battle and never meet them. They simply sail away. Aside from that, it's a great game!

Steam reviews are so polarised for this game. It gets a lot of harsh criticism for bugs and gameplay. I've been really enjoying Age of Sail though so I'll no doubt be getting this sooner or later.
Mack you need to play some PanzerKorps 2 by Slitherine - given your current disability. Nice and easy interface. Most turned based wargames would work nicely for you while you nurse your way back to health.
I don't know if any else experienced this but it can be difficult at times to watch video game reviews that aren't made by Mack. Most of other reviewers not only lack the honesty but humour and relatability. I don't have to worry about woke bs on this channel either. Watching WAB is just like listening to your mate who keeps it real. If you're reading this Mack I've been following your channel for a while and it's a crime that you aren't a bigger channel. Your videos are the best in the business. I watch all of them..even if i have absolutely no interest in buying the game. Sorry to hear about the broken arm and I wish you a speedy recovery.
The “Ultimate” series has burned me one too many times for me to get this one. Had so many battles I couldn’t win in Ultimate General: Civil War because enemy troops would clip into mountains or walls and my troops couldn’t see them so they did nothing, and that’s just the start. Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail was no better. Enemy troops would instantly recover morale and turn right around and start fighting the moment my troops stopped charging them with bayonets or shooting. Making armies run around a map after enemy troops until every last unit is destroyed isn’t fun.
Now that you arm is not working, perhaps you should make some reaction videos to trailers, or gameplay showcases? Just you speaking over a trailer for example. We just want to hear you opinion on things really 😉
Really? must check it out, so you can simply press a button and turn your last regiment to thwart a flanking...you know as I type this I am getting flashbacks using it, or maybe am going mad.
