ULTIMATE beginner art fight guide for anybody worried 

Amazing video! This will be my third year doing artfight and I wish I had this video back in 2022. A thing I’ve found is that while it’s etiquette to revenge someone don’t feel too pressured to. Peoples battle ratio (the ratio in which someone recieves attacks and gives back defences) tend to fall around 30%-50% if you aren’t into the oc’s the attacker has up. A nice thank you comment for the attack is more than enough. Some people can get upset if they don’t get a revenge back but remember you are not obligated to make someone else art if they made some of yours !! Anyways, amazing vid 😊

I always love looking at random profiles instead of random characters because that way I instantly look at ALL their characters

i dont have much of an online presence and on my first artfight i got 7 attacks, i think it just depends if people find your characters somehow, hell i don't even link my socials

Hi! I've been participating in Artfight for about 5 years now! Here's some tips I can offer from a lot of the topics throughout this video: - Even though the "How It Works" page says teams are assigned randomly, you CAN choose your team manually! If you ever change your mind mid-event, you can switch to the other team ONCE PER EVENT, or opt out of the event as a spectator! - "Polished" generally refers to an attack you spent a lot of time and/or effort on refining and making look good (i.e., cleaning up sketch, lineart or coloring)! - Sometimes you'll find an account with a lot of art/characters, but no links. Some artists just don't link their socials in the "Other Links" box; if you ever want to find them on other social media or know where to tag them (if you plan on posting art you drew for them), it's generally accepted to just private message them and ask! If they're active during the event and see your message, they'll most likely respond! Don't be shy! - If you're ever confused about someone's art/style, if they haven't posted any of their own attacks but have characters up: I recommend looking at the art credit that's included below every reference image on a character's page! Proper art credit is required when uploading character art on Artfight, and can tell you which reference images were/weren't drawn by the uploader. - There are some users who aren't artists, but upload and participate in Artfight anyways. This is usually just for the fun of getting art of their characters if they don't have the skills to draw them! If you're mostly in Artfight for the fun of drawing for others and don't care much about revenges (being attacked back), consider these users easy points! You might be making someone's day while you're at it! - You can usually tell who is/isn't participating in Artfight by looking at the color of their username after the site opens team registration! If someone IS participating, their username will be colored similarly to either team of the ongoing event! If someone ISN'T participating, their name will stay gray to indicate that they're spectating. Always keep an eye out for the colors of peoples' usernames if you want to attack them! - Don't plan too early before the event! Some characters you bookmarked earlier in the year/the year before might be hidden or deleted by the time the next event rolls around. I recommend searching for characters a month or two before the event! Or, if you've already done your early-bird browsing, refraining from planning anything until the character's owner has chosen a team or until the event has started! Above all, though, HAVE FUN!! 🎨💝

the goal of artfight is to make art of other people's characters and create a wholesome bond with other artists and appreciate characters.

this video is pretty good, other than saying that you "have" to attack people back, even if you dislike their characters (you do not need to do this people, do not attack people that you don't want to attack, even if they draw you something; they are not owed art back just because they made you something. Attacking everyone who attacks you, even when you don't want to, is going to give you burn out and make you not want to join art fight again), other than that though, pretty well made very and the animation you were making looks dope

I think one of my favorite parts of ArtFight last year was definitely being some random people’s first attacks. (I have a habit of going on a random attack spree). The thank yous I got back saying how happy they were to get their first attack really shaped my entire ArtFight experience. (ALSO TEAM SEAFOAM 🗣️🗣️🗣️)

Honestly I like the fact that you gotta give us that slap in the face w reality about the chances of actually getting art- esp as a first year and an avg artist. Even though AF is about getting art of your own chars- its also about improving yourself and you can't genuinely expect that much. As long as ur having fun though, as much as it would be nice to get art on your own, I think AF teaches a lesson in its own way and that's what is enjoyable about it, great video!

This is my fourth art fight !! I just started working on redrawing my refs from last year. My advice is to try and get defenses, rather than wait for an attack (since most people won't attack you out of nowhere). I also love clicking "random profile" or "random character" in order to find people to attack. ALSO I HATE THE ART FIGHT SITE I NEED IT TO BE MORE USER FRIENDLY PLEASE

This upcoming year is my 6th year. With how many attacks I’ve done Ive never encountered a “scammer” for you to have encountered enough to be a worrie you must be quite unlucky. People have already mentioned, but you don’t have to revenge. It’s nice but 99.99% of people will not be upset by you not. Remember peeps it’s for fun. it doesn’t matter if you do 1 or 100 attacks and how “good” or “quality” they are. My tip for the polish is if the artwork took longer even though it’s the same or less in terms of the other categories just add it. It dosnt give that much over all it’s a good sprinkle. (Like if the character is detailed and you put in that def add it on.) Anyways, have fun yall, my user is same as here, I’m ready to fight!

The rumors about artfight plus the "oh, you need such a complicated ref sheet plus lore!!" and just the "oh artfight is REALLY complicated" was what scared me into joining. I had made an account in 2019 with the intent of joining that year but with the rumors plus personal problems I had at the time, I ended up not joining and my account had became 5 years old with no stats or art attached to it. This year, I have decided to join and have been working on my bio plus adding ocs and boundaries for art I draw plus my ocs. The website overall had became a very scary website to me from rumors and the high expectations people made it out to be to where I was going to back out this year numerous times. Thank you for making this!! It has lifted my spirits a little about facing my fears to join this year!! :D

As a 7th yr this year, AF is all abt giving so you rlly get out of it what you put in!! I made my best online friends from AF and that's rlly what it's abt at heart ❤ It doesn't actually matter at all if you're popular... Just attack and the more you give the more likely you are to get stuff! Also being active in the disc and making friends n stuff can help but yeah erm?? Getting attacks is not an uncommon thing help normally first years do get a lot of attacks and get overwhelmed LUL

For first-timers: SIGN YOUR ART!! Ai is a huge problem now wnd artfight is a very easy way to get your art stolen if you don't put your name on it. This doesn't 100% protect your art but its way better than nothing. You deserve credit for your labors ✨

Thanks to reading the comments here and by watching this video; I've gained a bit more confidence and I'm looking forward to art fight. This will be my first year and it feels like a very welcoming space. I'm less worried about not getting any attacks as I've found some OCs I'm very excited to draw. I love the feeling of doing something nice for someone without wanting anything in return. Just making someone happy makes me happy. So even if I don't get my OCs drawn, I'm still happy I made someone's day by drawing their OC.

aah! i've been spectating art fight for years, it seems so fun but i just can not get the hang of drawing 😭

Heyo! some tips about REVENGES: aka getting art back We as humans are greedy little creatures so it's not too surprising that people want to be rewarded for their effort and expect to get art back. It definitely shouldn't be the main reason you do artfight, but if you've been wondering about revenges, here's some stuff about them 1) You don't HAVE to revenge (= give art in return) to every attack you get. A positive comment in response is customary, but that's it. There isn't an obligation to make art in return, so you also shouldn't expect that every person you attack will do so 2) Look for people with "Always revenge" on their profiles/AF cards. That means the person wants to focus on returning attacks! A good idea in general is to scout the internet for potential "targets" for your artfight. #artfight on any social media, or the # of a specific team (some people prefer to attack the opposite team bc of getting more points, but as the vid says that isn't necessary either). Joining the artfight Discord is also a good idea - there's often a lot of people who haven't gotten much attention yet and would gladly exchange attacks :] And you can ask if someone has a specific kind of character you're looking to draw too! 3) This one's for the nerds or if you're very serious: you can check the statistics on someone's profile - if they have over 50% "battle ratio" (this means how much art they gave comparing to how much they got), that means they're likely to attack you back! Mind this isn't a fool-proof method (someone can be new or more active one year than another), but generally speaking the existence of the statistic tab is never talked about so I thought I'd mention sdfsfsdd But, most importantly, TRY to do artfight for yourself. It's supposed to be fun way to practice and spread positivity, not just a "a way to get free art" . Have fun! experiment! don't take it too seriously

My first artfight was last year and i really wanted my stats to be good for fun 😂 and i was literally praying someone wouldn't attack me or if they do im praying they have ocs that r easy to draw for me 🥲honestly there were times i wanted to attack but couldn't cuz i just recently recovered from artblock during my first artfight so i made myself not feel pressured in doing revenges(good thing i didn't get many attacks tho and was able to do revenges while having fun)

ik this is silly cause i’m a beginner to art fight too but if you want to get more attacks, follow people cause imo i think that gives you the chance of having one of them attack you. also i saw that some people have hit lists on their bio and you can fill those out and they can make sure to attack you ☝️

So from what im getting here is that art fight is more of a get together with other artists. in a way, when you’re attacking a person, you’re actually sharing a piece you made for them in exchange for them to attack you or to show your appreciation towards their characters and work, its sounds very fun (Might be exaggerating this too much but i used to think artfight is where people in the art community would just go to war, where they would team up and debate on which characters were better and i am very sorry for how wrong that thought was 😭) Edit: sorry for the long comment but I’d like to ask, can you only attack and defend once (per person i mean)

Hey, a question! What does the theme really have to do with artfight? Do you have to draw peoples characters to do with that theme, or is it just a way of splitting teams? And when battling, are we drawing peoples art from the other team, or people on our team? (Ik these are kinda stupid but i don’t see people covering these)

i don't understand why everyone seems to have been making a big deal of it lately. it's never been anything but simple, easy and relaxed for me and i've participated since 2017; there's really nothing intimidating or anxiety-inducing about it whatsoever (personally). ig i made a big deal out of everything/took myself super seriously when i was younger though lol

Idk my first year (last year) I had 0 online presence and managed to get 31 attacks. The diffrence is i made 36 attacks lmao and revenged everyone who attacked me. (Not that you have to do this!! Just saying if you post attacks you will eventually get attacked back)

Listen, I have no social media that's alive, my three characters one was drawn 3 years ago, one I just redrew in 4 hrs because my original ref was 8 years old from when I first started drawing and the last is a lineless illustration that is literally the only image I have of the character. None of them even look similar and I have no proof I drew any of them, but I def did I swear (And yes I'm making a ref sheet for the illustration, tails are difficult and he has 9)
