Sorry for the poor audio from 3:08 to 4:45 everyone! We used a copyright free song, which has now been copyrighted (classic!) 🙄, so feel free to skip ahead to 4:45 if you want to. Thanks for your understanding 🙏 😊
The bath you're talking about is a private onsen which you fill up yourself and then drain afterwards. Public onsens, and those which are already full must be entered into naked (and after a thorough wash)!
thanks for your videos. When it comes to Kyushu, planning a trip is way way harder than in Kansai, Kanto or Aichi as information is hard to comes by. I am glad, I found your video.
We think the same thing. Kyushu is amazing but more difficult to plan. We would usually get the shinkansen to Fukuoka and then down to Kagoshima, or take the Sunflower ferry (amazing and different way to travel) to Beppu (our favourite place in Kyushu) and then explore Oita, Miyazaki and even Takachiho gorge and mt Aso. Where do you like in Kyuhsu?
I just checked and you're right, as of April 2023 the beach sand bath has been closed, but will open in the future with better facilities. You can still do Sand Baths at both Hyotan Onsen and Takegawara onsen!!
Wife is from Munakata near Fukuoka. First visit long ago went to Beppu/Oita-fascinating beautiful area! Remember the 7 Hells & Monkey Mountain. Still have a T shirt that says in Nihongo "Every day is Hell in Beppu".
You should be fine, most of the things don't require much conversation (for which you can use Google translate if needed), lots of things have vending machines, but there is a big university in Beppu so the general level of English is better than average I'd day
Thank you! And no problem at all: 1. Google "Sunflower Ferry Osaka" 2. Click "Web reservations" on the righthand side of the page 3. Click "make a reservation" under 'Non-members/members' 4. Click the non members reservation button. 5. Select all the relevant details for the trip you want to take (one way/ return, date, section, etc) 6. Select the cabin you want 7. Proceed to reservation without logging In 8. Input all your information 9. I'd imagine the next section is payment (card / convenience store) but I didn't make it this far 😁 10. Enjoy your trip!!
I would always recommend pre booking as you just never know how busy the car rental place will be! That being said, it will be less busy during the week so I've got my fingers crossed you'll be alright. We rented from 'Toyota Rent-a-car Beppu Ekimae' (copy and paste that into Google maps) it's right opposite Beppu train station and they were great!
@@wegoeast thanks for that we were able to secure a booking for 3 days. Just about to board sunflower gold getting excited. Thanks for the reply appreciate it
@@stevenwest4078 I'm jealous! The sunflower is great! We actually made a video on our trip on the Sunflower, so if you haven't seen it, give it a watch! Be sure to head onto the deck as you go under the World's largest suspension bridge & 100% go in the onsen on the ship!
Hello! I am planning to head down to Hyotan Onsen for my Japan trip next week. How do I go about to make reservation for the private bath? Or can I just do so when I am there? Hope to hear from you soon!
The private onsens can only be booked on the day - you have to turn up and they will tell you what's available. I would highly recommend going to hyotan first thing in the morning as it can get busy later on, so give yourself the best chance of getting one! Hope you have an amazing time in Beppu! Also consider the Hoyoland mud onsen for something a bit different
My boyfriend and I are thinking about going to an onsen in beppu, but we weren't sure about the prices of renting a car. How much was yours including gas? :)
Just looked, renting from the Toyota Beppu Ekimae (station) branch for 2 days in early February was ¥5500, add another ¥1000 for fuel to be safe, so ¥6500 for 2 days, so about 40 ish dollars which is super cheap
Haha thanks mate, its a nice little number! Got it in a second hand store in Sapporo, i think it was Second Street. Genuinely find so many nice items In second Street, its 100% worth taking 10 mins to browse when you see one on your trip (also about 50% of the price you'd pay outside japan)
While Beppu is most famous for Onsen, there is lots more to do and see! There's Kifune castle, the monkey park & aquarium, the cable car up the mountain, the Asahi tower, the great seafood, day trips to Yufu village, Oita and beyond!
There's so much we couldn't include in the video as well! Hoyoland (which we couldn't film) was arguably our favourite thing in beppu. It's a mud onsen AND it has a mixed section, which is very rare in Japan, but because of the mud you can't see anything
@@hoteru1 If you have the time to do both, then 100% do both. If you've only got 1 or two days, I would focus on Beppu as there's so much more to do than Yufuin. (if you were talking about Kurokawa, check out our most recent road trip videos)
English speaking people usually poorly mispronounce words in Japanese mistakenly using the English pronunciation for words spoken in Japanese like this speaker pronounced Oita (oyta) like soy when it's pronounce Oh-ee-tah. If you speak spanish or Latin you will have a better pronunciation. It's honorable and more respectful to ask a Japanese person the correct pronunciation of Japanese words. Don't assume that the English pronunciation or annunciation is the correct usage. Be polite and learn their proper way of speaking the words in proper Japanese pronunciation.
I'm learning Japanese myself and looking into akiya homes. I found a few around Oita and other areas around Kyushu. I was thinking it was pronounced oi-ta and appreciated the correction. Thank you.
And Japanese speaking people usually poorly pronounce (not mispronounce) words in English using the Japanese pronunciation. But we don’t complain, because what is important is that effort is made. It is not deliberate disrespect to the culture. I would rather someone try to speak the language and get it wrong than not try at all.
