This is how you build a mustang. Not just bags and rims and wraps! This is really great info. I have a 2013 Track Pack that already has some Boss goodies on it from the factory and there aren't too many s197 track builds out here on youtube.

Thanks for responding. I also filed down the connection but the car’s engine bucked badly and the wrench and engine light stayed on. Presently. I have gt 500 axle backs, Airaid intake and side plates removed.I will continue to watch this great build. I had to return it to the manufacturer and put the stock tb back on. Thanks

I installed gt500 calipers and rotors on mine. I got the calipers used separately. Both had equal about of brake pad lining. A month later, comparing the two rotors, one has a rust ring closer to the center. The one oem pad covers the whole rotor, the other pad, a powerstop does not cover the whole rotor, it misses 5mm. I did some research and all the aftermarket pads I know of do not cover 5mm over the rotor.

Hi Sean - I am looking for a brake upgrade recommendation. I watched a lot of your Boss videos. I hope you either restore your Boss or get something equally satisfying. I have a 2013 Boss 302 Laguna Seca. I do not track it but I do drive in a spirited way. It feels like it just takes too long to come to a complete stop when I really need it.

I got the BL-5000SLX. One thing to not is they offer a longer version but it will hit the side exit exhaust if your not careful. You would have to use the larger rubber blocks in the kit, which in my case would not fit under my car since it has been lowered. Thanks for supporting the channel!

I think your Boss is taking after the new GT350, which IMO is a legend. Good Luck man, I'll be following you coz you are doing a lot of things that I want to do. I like the front brake cooling ducts, but what about rear cooling ducts? I also wanted to get the GT350 style vented front quarters for my 2013 S197, but I literally have no idea how to go about a similar setup fr rear. I need a rear quarter panel with vent in front side and on the rear valance area.

Thanks for the comment. I haven’t seen a real need for rear brake cooling to be honest. Even the Boss 302s guys have been fine with the rear brake setup. Since most of the braking is done up front they don’t get over worked too much. I recently installed the Boss 302s ABS module and it increases the amount the rear brakes are used but even with that they seem to hold up fine. I would invest my money in the best pads and rotors you can and you should see a big improvement. Thanks for watching.

@@SeanMcGuigan rewatching this! Could you please make a video about the Boss302 ABS module as well? I do feel nose dive is too much in my car even with coilovers and I want to change the brake bias little bit to rear as well.

How is the cold bite on these GT500 rotors and pads? I'd love to do a 6 piston 4 piston Brembo setup for my Stang, but I've herd horror stories of these brakes having less bite in daily driving conditions. I drive my car daily and track it on weekends

Best thing you can do is get a set of street pads and track day pads and swap them when needed. That’s what I do and it’s truly the only way to get the best of both worlds.

Awesome video. You mentioned some places where you purchase your parts (mostly from the States). Hate having to pay duty etc. Any recommendations for Canadian parts stores/websites?

Thanks for the question. I found working with a local Ford dealer that is willing to give you a discount on parts really helps. I got the GT500 Calipers and a lot of other Ford parts from them. After that I did the math and still found getting everything else out of the states was cheaper. Get on the mailing list for the big websites (AM, CJ, LMR) as they send out promo codes and that car really save you a lot.

Hi Sean, had a quick question about the drag tires. I'm building my 08 gt500 for 1/2 mile fun and was curious about the speed rating of those tires, can't seem to find much info. In terms of launching doesn't have to be as hard as with 1/4 mile but this year 1st and 2nd gear spun all the way through no matter what I did. I don't want to break stuff in the drive train but I want to be able to hook up and go.

Hi Ferretkiller9454 The NT01 are a ZR rated tire so than mean they are capable of speeds over 186 MPH. Not so much a drag tire, more so for Road racing but It is a soft compound so it could work well for a 1/2 track. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

Hello Sean, do you think the BBK 85 mm tb is worth it? I bought one from Brothers Performance and I couldn’t get the wire connection from the Boss to fit on the B.B.K unit! When I received it , the part number said 1821 for mustang gt and F1 50 and Boss 302. Just curious as to where you got yours and was there any problems with install. Great Video!!,

I did notice the connection was really tight to the body of the throttle body. I took a file and every so gently filed the aluminum to clear the connector. After that no issues. You couldn’t even tell I did it. Maybe 1-2mm off.

Did the axles have to be pulled for the wheel studs There are holes to fit studs threw Factory manual shows a c clamp style tool

We pulled the axles because we also installed the 13.8” GT500 rear brakes with the blowfish racing Caliper bracket.

Can you tell me who built the GT500 cooling ducts? I have a 13’ Boss LS and will be doing the 6-pot upgrades this winter. Great build and channel! I have really enjoyed seeing your progress

One tip I will add is you are going to want to notch out the bottom of the shields where it lines up with the lower control arm. It makes contact and rubs. Great question. at the time of my build the 2 issues I saw with the 2015+ PP brakes were 1. poor rotor design and only a few options to change that one being GiroDisc but at $1000) per pair. 2. At the time I could not find any brake duct dust shields to fit. If you are willing to spend the money on Giro Disc rotors I think the PP caliper is a great option. The pad size is much larger than the GT500. about the same difference as going from the 4 piston PP to the 6 piston GT500.

Ohh been awhile but I believe it was a 180 degree or very close to that.

I understand how you would feel. It does however have a locking bar so it’s not resting on the cylinders. There is a video from quickjacks showing a guy running and jumping at a mustang on a set. It doesn’t move at all. It’s much safer than jack stands for sure.

I am going to try the R8 pads on the track. We will see how they do on my first track day coming up in a few weeks. It’s a short track that’s hard on brakes. If they hold up I’m good. If not I will step up a few models and see.

Sean McGuigan I’m fairly sure the R8 will not be sufficient. You’re running wide tires with a fairly grippy compound. The brakes may be an inch bigger but if you’re braking properly you’re going to toast those. I’m running r12s on my boss with pzeros and brake cooling and they’re barely adequate. I’m sure they’ll work for auto-x though. What’s the top speed at the actual track you’re going to?
