Great video and nice that your son is filming and editing which is huge! I would also like to add a few things to that list. Every member of the family should have a small lightweight bag to be able to walk in case the vehicle dies or you have to abandon it. There also should be some money stashed away and find a way to resupply like hiding stash tubes and such. This gives you more options. I forgot my wallet driving thru the desert and was running out of gas fast and didn’t think I would make it home but I remembered I keep an emergency cc and $20 in my Jeep and also extra ice in my gallon of Yeti so I don’t run out of drinking water. Great tips and loved the idea about concealment and camp.

Love the new ten and starlink mount brother! I think a lot of the time people neglect the most important prep after water food and shelter, tools are in my top 5 items. I wonder what unique ways you could come up with to use some standard tools every off road guy has or needs.. could be a great video. Loved this video! That’s a nice rig for Bugging Out by road / off road, and you’re lucky to have the support of your family! The next level is to know how to be a Pilot & have access to a plane in order to have a few more options. If you or your family knows a Pilot, then you’ve got a better chance compared to those who would be stuck in traffic.

@@TrailNewbie No problem. Totally understand. You and your family are way ahead of so many others, at least you’re getting out to the hills and practicing! Hi Greg, another great video! If you’re looking for content, a good “local” trail for you would be Monache Meadows. Easy to moderate trail. Beautiful surroundings and some great old cabins. Plan on 2-3 days. You can also do Sherman Pass trail along the way. We ran Shuteye yesterday and hung out at the fire lookout. This may be another option for you, although this trail is starting to get more difficult with each passing year. Can’t wait to see the next video.

Very nice setup and thanks for sharing. I’m all for being prepared also but if the country or world really goes into a shtf situation, any desperate person (and there would be potentially millions), with a weapon or even the will to take you out while you’re sleeping or unaware would be able to take everything you have. It’s cool to feel prepared like this but it also makes for an extremely enticing loot drop.

Interesting video. A couple of comments, if I may; Sure a pistol, for close encounters. But if long(er) term survival is required, a .22 rifle is a good choice. One can use it for small game like squirrels and rabits. It is also is WAY quieter than a centerfire rifle. It can also be used for "protection". Another item is a small fishing pole, lures and all the other fisherman's tools. Now granted, this takes some practice and knowledge before you need it. But if successful, both nutritious and delicious. I cary 5 gallons of water in one can and about another 2-3 in jugs. However, I am going to follow your advice about the water filtration system as a backup. Thanks.

The aliens can find you via the Starlink…hand cranked charging radio will keep you connected without detection, 😂. I use MREs. Love the diesel heater idea and camouflage! Where does the dog and family go? 😊. Living with incoming hurricanes preps you to bug out, I’d add first aid kit, bear spray, mosquito spray, and pepper spray for all the nasty critters. P. S. Your son did an excellent editing job!

Good stuff, Greg! I've always considered our rig to be our "bug-out bag". Our daily driver has a get-home bag that fills in the gaps to make it to either the Yukon or the Jeep if need be. And along with protection, a "long range" option can also provide food if you're out long enough!
@TrailNewbie
@TrailNewbie Месяц назад
Right on! Yes, very good point about the long-range ‘protection’ being able to help support when it comes to food. That is also my thought - having the ability to gather food in the wild is very important.

Sounds good but unrealistic. In case of catastrophic event you would probably run out of gas and won't make it to Sierras. Everyone would be on the roads trying to get out causing major traffic. Gas stations would be empty fast or may not work. And let's say you do make it to mountains, you only have days of food, poor shelter, I doubt there would be enough animals left to hunt.
@TrailNewbie
@TrailNewbie 26 дней назад
You make a good point. In terms of gas, I live right on the edge of town and can get to 6,000 feet in the Sierra in about 40 minutes. For food, I think I could comfortably survive for around 2-3 weeks. But beyond that, I’d definitely need to have some options like hunting. You make some great points, and have got me thinking! Interesting premise, is you rig ready for bug out? I would say no you’re not ready. Planning to leave your home,extended family and your community you MUST think and plan like the pioneers traveling west in the 1800 s. There was a reason for the Calistoga wagon! They had to take Everything to survive with them. You have a very nice camping setup, but you don’t have the food,tools, or equipment to survive long term( more than a month) please review your option and benefits of bugging in. Time and money spent on improving your home for SHTF is well spent

One question how long you actually think that roof top tent will last in a worse case scenario you’re out there months maybe even years ? I would invest in tools to build shelter have my vehicle as light as possible and ready to roll in a flash all that fancy gear will do no good if you had to fly out of there buy you a cheap small travel trailer you can drag up there I have a 1990 holiday rambler travel trailer in excellent shape solar on it large tires and I lifted it it’s 25ft set up for off grid i pull it with my 1998 suburban 2500 4x4 7.4 it’s also set up for off grid just incase I’ve had my travel trailer in some crazy places even 4x4 wouldn’t try to go lol

You live in California, you're F'd in a SHTF situation. Your fancy Volvo most likely won't run and if it does, you'll never make it to your Jeep, let along to your bug out spot. If you're not already in your bug out spot when the SHTF the zombies will get you before you can get out of town or city. Everyone will get the warning at the same time and have the same idea, get out of town. All the roads will be clogged and even the trails will have vehicles stuck everywhere. Your best hope is to get advanced notice so you can get the jump on everyone else. Get involved and volunteer with your local law enforcement agencies. They may give you a heads up of what's going to happen. Check out the book, "Strategic Relocation" by Joel Scousen. All the stuff you show here is great if you are already in your bug out spot. There are some great spots in the Sierra's to hunker down but there are also millions of people in California that are going to have the same idea as you. Good luck!

Why blur out your handgun?
@TrailNewbie
@TrailNewbie 24 дня назад
Great question. Unfortunately, there have been instances on channels (similar to mine) that fully displayed firearms (for hunting, or sport shooting) and after that video posted, their views tanked and it took months and in some cases more than a year for their channel to recover. Not because people didn’t want to watch anymore, but because of possible throttling by YT. I went ahead and blurred it out just to be cautious of this. As my channel is still small, I can’t afford to sustain any throttling by YT. But here, I’m happy to tell you what is carried. It’s a S&W M&P Shield 9MM. Super compact because it’s a single stack. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

@@TrailNewbiemy S&W M&P9 1.0 Shield is one of my carry pistols. I would also have an AR and my .22lr bolt action takedown.

Well in the event of a nuclear attack you wouldn’t be able to get to your jeep and it wouldn’t run anyways from the first EMPs in the atmosphere. Also all your electronic equipment won’t work. I have my jeep EMP protected and my power stations, solar, flash lights and any other critical electronic gear.
@TrailNewbie
@TrailNewbie Месяц назад
A very solid point! While my scenario was aliens attacking 👽 (highly unlikely) an EMP is definitely the most likely issue. I’ve wanted to add an EMP protector. Do you have any recommendations there? Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

That’s why I’m looking for a 12V “one wire” Cummins Dodge Ram 4x4 with a camper on the back.

You keep your Jeep in a storage garage? 😮
@TrailNewbie
@TrailNewbie Месяц назад
Yes, indeed. A few months back I moved it to storage as my wife and I have 3 teenagers who are all driving. Our driveway was becoming a parking lot - and we also use the storage for a bunch of other items (general storage). I wanted to ‘play that up’ a bit for this video … making it seem a bit like it’s just there waiting for me for a bit of dramatic effect. 😄 Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

My personal thoughts on your 'plan.' This is in no way meant as a disparagement. This is meant as a Critical Thinking Critique (CTC.) With that being said... LOCATION: 1. Commiefornia -⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(negative 5 stars) VIDEO: 1. Well though out, produced and executed presentation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 2. Intro. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ VEHICLE: 1. Great idea having your Bug-Out Vehicle in a storage locker, away from prying eyes. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 2. Jeep as Bug Out Vehicle ⭐ Too small. Too lightweight, and it's gasoline powered. 2. "Bugging out" to the Sierras ⭐⭐ 3. Rooftop Tent ⭐ 4. Having your only shelter attached to and needing to be deployed and retracted in order to 'go in a moments notice.' ⭐ 5. Awning attached to vehicle.⭐ 6. Having Starlink Portable ⭐⭐⭐⭐ But it should be secured and able to roll in the instance where you need to get the hell outta Dodge. 7. Solar Panels should be attached, secured, to the vehicle and able to roll in the instance where you need to get the hell outta Dodge.⭐⭐⭐ 8. Vehicle Color (White)⭐(Amazon has 3-D cut mil camo available in contiguous ;engths of your choosing.) Your Jeep is extremely limiting in an actual Bug Out situation. You'd be better served with a heavier, more robust 4x4 capable. Something like a Ford, E-350, 4x4, 7.3L PS Diesel. Diesel engine vehicles - '96 - '02 - are far superior to gas engines for a number of reasons: 1. They run on multiple types of fuel: diesel, trans fluid, old motor oil, waste veg oil, kerosene, etc., etc.. 2. Once diesel engines are running they can run as long as you keep adding fuel. 3. No spark plugs 4. No distributor 5. No Coil or coil packs 6. Etc. GEAR: 1. Well thought out. 2. Well executed.

There’s really no reason to blur or hide firearms. RU-vid has tons of firearms related channels.
@TrailNewbie
@TrailNewbie 18 дней назад
Ya, I know what you mean. Being that I’m a small channel - I just can’t risk any YT controversy like my buddy had happen. Trust me, I wish I didn’t blur it out. But I think it’s best right now.

That's the right vehicle for sure. But Starlink? Power station? 🙄 "Newbie" indeed. Especially for that kind of nationwide emergency which would *actually* cause you to bug out, every single ounce of weight and cubic inch of space would be needed solely for those things that keep you alive, many of which you did cover. And those heavy and bulky back seats should already be gone. That Jeep (with awesome Ursa Minor) should be stacked to the rafters with NOTHING but food, water, clothes, "protection" items and only those things that will actually keep you alive. Space lost for comfort items will only shorten your life. Newbie.
