They all do the same thing at the end. Or do they? Why different names then? I've been working in all these roles and it took me 10 years to understand the differences. Don't embarrass yourself - like I did in an important interview.
Lets once and for all show the responsibilities, and differences between Coder Vs Programmer Vs Developer Vs Software Engineer VS architect

Very nice video! My take on these titles: Software engineering originally emerged as an engineering discipline in the 60's, and Margaret Hamilton was the first who coined the term "software engineering" during her work in the Apollo missions at NASA, when she realized that engineering principles were needed also to develop software. Fast forward to around 2001, people stopped calling themselves engineers, and started calling themselves developers instead. After the agile manifesto, my hypotheses is that terms like "engineering" and "architecture" were viewed as "upfront" design, and "old-fashioned, and thus thrown under the bus.

Hey I know you mr. AI-ambassador :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts here, I haven't dived that much in the history of roles to be honest. Though I am familiar with the events. funny that you as an architect (or am I mislabeling you? ) mentioned it from that perspective. As me as a programmer/developer feel, and for quite some time has felt that Architects and engineers are a new and fancy terms. So kinda the opposite :) But that could be my impression from people I hang out with in every day life. You know when regular people introduce themselves on social events, somehow engineers, architects fall into the top echelon of the society, same with doctors and lawyers. While programmer kinda sounds like a blue collar job. People imagine it as just the boring office work, sitting and nerding (which does look like that when you sit aside one programmer and observe). Maybe because regular people are more familiar with regular engineers and architects, and appending software in front makes it just a "same same but different" thing. They both get easier social interactions, as people usually follow up with "oh what are you working on now?" and when I say I am a programmer, the only follow up I get from the civilians is "Aha...." :) but I should probably change (and increase) my social circle also :)

I have no formal programming/developer/software engineering qualification but worked in the system design, development, testing, implementation and support for over 20 years. I have been feeling depressed because I have started my own information systems consulting business. My confidence to make a success is at an all time low. Your video was a perfect pick-me-up.🤣🤣🤣

Superb video. Very well made. I especially liked the little sprinkles of comedy in between. Grateful( because such information always helps a lot for a novice software 'engineer')! Also very underrated channel and views. Wish you success.

@@TheLastCodebender Oh so great Zaurbek. finally some of my videos get recommended :D I see you have a lot of ChatGPT videos which I will definitively check out in the weekend. I've just held some presentations at the office about it, and talking about it tomorrow again. So to say the least - I love the tool myself :)

@@ApplicableProgrammingI always say I am a developer, but according to your video that is a high level, so I would say I am a programmer 😅 backend PHP (Laravel) for about 3 years I applied for a senior role few days ago but in the interview I told them I don't see myself as a senior and that I am studying to fill gaps in foundations I should have had long time before they wanted me eventually as I have experience in their business, and accepted me as a mid-level I hope I do well

@@omaryahia Well congratulations Omar! Modesty in presenting yourself in the interviews is quite a common trait. But having that said, I am thinking on some "nail the interview" course, either on youtube or paid one. I want to help programmers go easier over the interview with the non technical part of it. Can I ask you to share with me some biggest challenges you had on the interview? Either here in comments, or join the discord and write me there if this is too public?

hehe, thanks, glad you liked it. It was actually not planned at all, and later I wanted to re-record it to use the microphone I have laying around and really go over the top with it. But it was so time consuming filming it so I settled for what is in the video (probably for the best) :)
