Great setup Jason. Agreed on the soft shell, stocking hat vs those thin beanies, this insulated jersey gloves are money. I wear basketball shorts under my pants a lot for warmth and to protect against thorns. Also Walmart was selling a $24 hand warmer for a while that was actually thick, had cuffs and was water resistant.

Great video Jason. I think the only main place we differ is on the legs. I don't know if it's my metabolism or what, but I've never been able to get a pants-only system that didn't roast me on the way in but was still warm enough for all day sits. So I usually end up wearing early season brush pants and base layers on the way in and add heavy bibs at the tree.
@SamkoTradBow

That's a great idea. We all have our own body thermal regulation differences and have to adjust accordingly. Glad you got a system that works good for you.

Thank you for some great information. My preferences for base layers are wool and silk. They insulate when wet; and they hold less body odor than polyester. I choose wool or polyester socks; and change out the socks. If I know the environment will be damp or wet then I only wear wool socks. Cheap clothing is fine; and I’ve worn some warm budget fleeces. I find zippers fail on many budget garments. Now I always choose garments with YKK zippers.

I would recommend getting 1 or 2 ascenders but sizing up on them that’s what I did, I was so cold once I wore a thermal, hoodie, Columbia ascender, and a carhartt Sherpa lined vest kept me warm all day.

I have tried high end stuff and low end stuff. My favorite pants are some I bought for $12.99 at Sam’s. About the only camo I wear anymore is a shirt, cap, and face mask while turkey hunting.

Nice video. I bought a pair of Sitka timberlines first hunt I had briars picked a thread, I wore them one other time for fishing but other than that they sit in a box. I much prefer the first lite catalyst pants ( the original recently discontinued version ) there warm and way tougher they have a fl catalyst foundary pant now with a lot more features making them closer to the timberlines. I bought both of pairs of pants on sale I can’t imagine spending 250 on the timberlines they just are no tough enough for what I need them for
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 8 месяцев назад
Yep. I don't believe and of that high-tech clothing is any tougher than the cheap stuff. And I own first lite, kuiu and Sitka. But spend 99% of my time in wrangler nylon cargo pants from walmart
@thanielsommers4500
@thanielsommers4500 8 месяцев назад
Yea you don’t have to spend a ton of money on gear. When I was a teenager I waited for all the cabelas sales and bought some good gear at affordable prices, (super cheap by todays standards) fast forward 17 years later and I still have and wear most of that gear, cabelas has gone down hill in some ways since bass pro bought them but they still have a few of the classics. What interested me in first lite was there merino and that I’ve been happy with I stink less ( for my own sake) and it helps me regulate my body temp better I sweat a lot so it’s nice for me. As for pants I like there catalyst they fit right in between regular weight pants and bibs. Most of there other pants aren’t as interesting because I feel like I’ve got that covered

I bought a high end Woolrich snow camo wool jacket and overalls. Was excited about using them in cold weather, but was disappointed for two reasons. The sleeves where really baggy and hung down. I could shoot a bow holding it straight up and down, but canted, the sleeve was in the string path. Arm guard mandatory. Secondly, it had zero wind block capability, so required an additional layer for that. The camo is excellent however, for snow or just winter backgrounds in general without snow. The jacket has large cargo pockets for gear and to act as hand warmers. I wear gloves during cold weather, but light wool army surplus so not too bulky. Big fan of a neck warmer for sure, also wool blend head toboggan and socks. i wear non-insulated rubber boots, green, about $40 bucks from Rural King, in cool weather, and Muck boots with medium insulation, neoprene tops for colder weather. I think fancy camo is over-rated (and over-priced).

I used to think the same but after wearing sitka and kuiu ill buy once cry once and wont have any of the issues you mentioned above. Wish i bought it years ago instead of spending in cheaper useless camo from other regular hunting brands. I bought countless layers and pieces and was still freezing and uncomfy. With sitka 2/3 pieces total with layering up top in real cold and im cozy. Depending what pieces i want to go with i can get away with almost nothing underneath and just jacket in 20 degree or below and be fine. And other pieces are extremely versatile and comfy with bow hunting features jam packed
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow Год назад
Yep alway important to test your gear when shooting. have owned a few jackets like that requireing me to wear an arm guard or bunch the sleeve on the back side of my arm and safety pin it.

My outer vest is a blaze orange one, you need at least one visible orange item above the waist when hunt period in South Dakota even for bowhunters, so I get the blaze orange hat and the blaze orange vest. I got the vest as I was tired of using this old orange vest that was heavy plastic when doing any hunting at all that was not deep winter and moving in the wrong way it was louder then I like so in 2008 I got this vest that is amazing for hunting on sale at Walmart.

@@SamkoTradBow I have to all the time wear Orange at least 1 part above the waist that is visible so just a hat would work but I go a bit more with a hat and a vest, this even includes a few places that are bow only as the law is not saying one way or the other about it..

Merino wool base layers for me. Better with the scent then under armor moisture wicking stuff for me. I use Kuiu 120 LT 1/4zip hooded tee. 1/4 zip allows heat dump and use hood as face mask during turkey season. Super light in hot weather and surprisingly warm when chilly. LLBean wool base bottoms simple and not expensive plus I live 45min from main store so access to outlet store is super easy just down street. I saddle hunt so use Kuiu pro pants with built in knee pads and they work great. Other then that it’s traditional green woolies for pants when cold and LLBean green checkered jack shirt for top. For layering I only do top and that usually consists of LLBean and Cabelas wool sweaters. Cabelas dry plus rain suede rain gear. I have extreme cold weather stuff that’s Autumwood wool. Not sure if they make it anymore but it’s so hot I have trouble wearing it much other then my vest cuz moving around in it is instant sweat. I have some $$$ tied up in cloths but know everyone’s different and different things work well for different people. Spending tons of $$$ for brand name stuff isn’t necessary use what works for you

Besides being warm wool is silent on the stand. I've worn LL Bean wool shirt jackets for many years under rain gear or a vest. Also found some good deals on Pendleton wool shirts online and at Goodwill.

Hi Jason, I found there are two kinds of Risers: 1) For most of risers, their pivot point is the center of the bow. This is the case of all recerve bows and some long bows; 2) For some special long bows, their grip position is the center of the bow. Normally the grip position lies about a centimeter below the pivot point. Would you kindly tell me why there could be such a difference? Which one is correct? Thank you. Matthew
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow Год назад
I have no idea why that is. Bet it has to do with grip position that's expected for the bow. But honestly no idea
