The Rich Man and Lazarus …29But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let your brothers listen to them.’ 30‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone is sent to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31Then Abraham said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”…
I always thought getting that BFG was stupid. And I definitely agree with you, there's just too many lost souls in this map. Luckily, there are no pain elementals in Ultimate DooM. Great video, as always :)
I know this is an old comment but ill just put this here for anyone else curious. Abraham did not send someone from the dead, he told the man about Moses preaching to people and warning them of hell and that the mans family can listen to him. The man says that he does not believe moses will have any effect on his family but that if someone from the dead is raised to warn them, then they will be more likely to repent. Abraham then tells him that if his family refuses to believe in what Moses tells them, they will also not heed the warning of someone from the dead either.
Cacodemon helped you, how nice. I had no idea how to get the BFG, but I knew how to bypass any use of the yellow key. I think the invulnerability was in the place of a radiation suit. Way to go sir. So many Atheists, lol.
I like to think the invulnerability is there so after you get the BFG you don’t take damage in the blood. The only problem is it’s hard to see to make the jump while invulnerable.
I love that bible passage you describe and read at the beginning of your video BMD as it's a very terrifying morality tale that describes the consequences of not repenting for your sins. That is why this is probably my favorite video of yours!
From the beginning of this video, I knew that this comes from the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31), which, according to the NAB footnote, "illustrates Luke's concern with Jesus' attitude toward the rich and the poor. The reversal of the fates of the rich man and [the poor man] Lazarus (16:22-23) illustrates the teachings of Jesus in Luke's 'Sermon on the Plain' (6:20-21, 24-25)." And I also know that according to the NAB footnote again, Luke 16:30-31 is "a foreshadowing in Luke's gospel of the rejection of the call to repentance even after Jesus' resurrection." And I also recognize the parable in Year C's 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time and in the Thursday after the Second Sunday of Lent. It teaches the moral of the story that if you follow God's teachings and care for those suffering and in need more often, you won't end up like the rich man in the parable. Also, LOL at some funny parts in this video. Nice one, and nice Bible lecture at the beginning, BTW. :)
***** I noticed, in your walkthrough, you did not access one elevator. In the very beginning of the game when you drop down to the lower area, there is an area at the far right corner where there's a narrow window. There's an an Imp just on the other side, and several Lost Souls are in there too, which will come for you. Well, in THAT room there is a wide elevator on the far side and the red key is at the top on the right in a corner. Okay...now, if you stand up there and look down, like you're looking back through that narrow window you will see a like a metal-clad type pillar. You CAN lower that for a box of rockets! It's not a secret area, but it's kewl to know and good to have a box of rockets up from so early in the game. Wasn't sure if you knew about this, but wanted to give you a heads-up.
You're right about the Lost Souls in this map. There's way too many of them to be flying around, especially since a lot of this map consists of tight, compact rooms, but that doesn't mean the design is bad. I like the use of the marble textures here. By the way, you handles the BFG jump beautifully.
lol 5:10 I did not expect that the message "You need a red key to open this door." appeared in the middle, it usually appears at the top left corner, like all other messages.
Hey. Great guide. At the 3:00 mark, you can get the remaining enemies by standing in front of the hole at the bottom of the wall where the blood river enters that room. :)
On the other hand, it would have been a fun challenge to have a cyberdemon in one such room. Not too challenging methinks, if he'd be on the lowest level and in between a number of pillars, but still a fun addition.
You missed one secret, through the window in the lower level of the start room. Where you shot enemies through. You can see an iron pillar on the other side. When you get in that room click on that pillar and it will lower with a box of rocket's.
5:42 Got to the top of the lift here and got jumpscared by a random shot gunner. Dunno why he was there but he was and it scared the balls out of me. I managed to put him out of his misery before he was able to touch me but I had to catch my breath there
Think about it. Doom 2 intermission is same as E4's is. Doom 2 takes place on Earth (3/3 of Doom 2 is Hell but still) so E4 takes place on Earth as well. Its cool. E1 - Phobos, E2 - Deimos, E3 - Hell, E4 - Earth. E4 could stand as hidden base where monsters are grouping for attack. Its just my opinion, lol, I might be wrong but I like the idea that E4 is set on Earth. Neat.
I love the design of this map! Though the enemy placement is rather bad and there are too many lost souls! Ledge-walking to get a BFG isn't cool....... Looking forward to your favourite map in Episode 4!
I actually think this episode is set on Earth. Because sky texture is same as Bunny - Ending screen sky (Looks like a sunset). Youre on Earth and you see burning city. Get ready for DOOM II. But theres one more thing to do. Must avenge Daisy the pet rabbit! So E4 begins and sky is same as the ending screens one so that means E4 takes place on Earth. Doom II takes place on Earth. Intermission screen is just with skull heads, you dont see your location just like on E4 - Its on Earth.
That was my mistake I should have said hidden ammo. Big Mac is the best at these walk through video's. I have learned a lot of secret's from his video's. Even in this one, I didnt know about the hidden med packs in the secret area he showed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
i've almost beated this one with no damage on nightmare, put when i've turned away, a gunner shoted me, i've pissed off and closed the game, by the way, nice video
***** At the end of the game when you want to get the BFG, you CAN actually get a running start from up-top and run along that ledge and jump and make it far enough to get the BFG. I did it....now, maybe I got lucky, but it's doable. :)
Great gameplay BigMacDavis, as always! Looking forward to E4M6. By the way, you're almost at 700 subs man, that's cool! Now it's only 300 subs remaining to 1000 subs... One question: you still plan to do and upload the 200+ celebration video?
Bypassing yellow key. Im doing it when Im doing speedruns. At the beggining of mission that Cacodemon is well hidden and I think that bloodfall is blood-fountain. This map, just like E4M4 is a little break from hard maps.
So, if Ultimate Doom came out after Doom 2, then I guess that little path to BFG existed so people will not forget about their experience at "The Chasm" level from the second Doom?

I somehow got to the exit without the blue key and became stuck in the north section of the map, so I couldn't go back to get the secrets (I missed all of them!).
As far as I know, the "fire" and such like details regarding Hell come from the Divine Comedy. It's never described in the Bible. I haven't read either though, so take this with a grain of salt.
Thats not a secret. Look at intermission screen. It says Secret - 100%. He's doing 100% Walkthrough of Items, Secrets and Kills. It might be non - official secret and thats nice to know there are box of rockets.
Lol i managed to beat this w.o the blue key. I took the radiation suit and swam around the area with the Soulsphere all the way to the other side. Oops 😆
***** I don't know f you know this, but it is totally possibly to get stuck in 2 places! One is in the area behind a blue door with no blue key, and the other is jumping through the window to the exit switch without having the yellow key! I really like this map, but I really do NOT like being stuck and having to potentially start the game all over again if frequent saves are made. But even that you have to be careful because if you save the game in the wrong place you won't be able to back-track to get the blue/yellow keys!! Very bad design in my opinion, even though the overall map is very interesting. Also.....when you jump through the window to the area with the exit switch, if you can balance on the top ledge there is a narrow, rectangular pit to the right. It's positioned next to the right of the yellow door if you were standing in that area with the exit switch. In my doom engine I am able to look up and down, which is very, very kewl, but also very useful at times, and this is how I spotted this narrow pit. Just for an experiment I saved the game and then dropped down into that pit, just to see what would happen. Nothing happens! If you fall in, you're stuck with no way out!!
In retrospect, I don't particularly care for this map. It's just sort of thrown-together and something that was generated using the old SLIGE utility. The colors/architecture don't vary much, not a lot of unique landmarks/features, a virtual lack of insidious traps, etc. It's just a generic level that was packaged along with a bunch of other mostly generic levels. There's only 2 or 3 maps that really stand out in Episode 4.
Good to know that you will do something for 200+ videos. And yes, you can go higher, because you are 20% cooler and put all of your effort on every video that you made. Also, I send a contact request on Skype, so if you want to accept, I'll really appreciate that... xD
(about the starting) I believe in God just because getting everything u ever wanted after u die sounds pretty nice xD but I think it's kind of stupid where being greedy = eternal torture, because really...
awesome bible story and this is coming from an agnostic who no longer believes in the bible. no matter where that story came from biblical or not its still a damn good story
Definitely. I'm agnostic as well. I think this story can be used even in today's life, regardless if one's religious or not. We don't realize some of the decisions we make in life are bad until it's too late. That's why it's probably best to take the advice from people who have lost a lot because of their actions, like doing drugs.
Wow, you just really summed it really well, and yeah, it's so true, I know that from experience, lots of it, from both important and mundane things such as a game even. And that's so cool that you're agnostic too, I mean, for me a least, because I mean you're a big RU-vidr, so it's just cool to know we have another thing in common. I'm actually planning on becoming a letsplayer/achievement guide RU-vidr but I can't yet until I get a CaptureCard, or CaptureCam, whatever the equipment's called. I mean, I could, but it would just look and sound shitty and unprofessional, which I don't want, you know what I mean?
I know exactly what you mean. There are a lot of Let's Players out there on RU-vid, and it can be hard to be unique among the crowd. So looking and sounding your best is important, but can be hard without the right equipment.
Yeah, I still don't even know if I need more equipment than the CaptureCard or if that's all I need. I also want to know what equipment will enable me to have a facecam while doing the video so that the people can not only hear but also see my reactions. I already have one thing though that will set me apart, because as far as I know, there's no other RU-vidr who has come up with it. I don't want to say it publicly though, in case someone tries to steal it. Just to be safe, better safe than sorry.
yeah, but still, people don't believe in god for lack of proof, I can see that but i'm just gonna believe him anyway, and your sent to hell for it. That dude thought money was god? Riiiiight...
I quite enjoy this map but it is pretty forgetful, not one of the most interesting maps. Probably because of the bad monster placement and excessive amount of lost souls, as you said.
