ULTIMATE GameRoomSolutions DIY Arcade Cabinets?! Better Than Arcade1up? (VewLix Style Arcade Kit)

(Lot's of Resources Below) I've had this cabinet together for about a month now and these are my experiences and observations. A big question is, would I (personally) buy more kit products from GRS? In short yes; but knowing that there will likely be complications. Unless you’re willing to assume that risk, I couldn’t recommend. One area they need major improvement in is their customer communication and final QC's, in my opinion. However, at the end of the day - they have one of the most unique inventories of cabinet kit style options.
What I would also recommend is looking into other brands like RecRoom Masters, Paradox Arcade Systems, and Arcade Guys - if you want something solid or high-end.
My two cents: Spend your money however you like (because I can't & won't tell you how to spend it) and if you prefer smaller single style cabinets, "Party on, dudes." But consider this; Fullsize cabinets like these range from 67" & up in height (only 3" taller than current gen A1U's) and cost approximately the same price as two Arcade1up fighting cabinets. They allow you to play a myriad of games. At the very least, if you're a fighting game fan - it could be the crown jewel of your fighter arcades, instead of having six or more Arcade1up fighters. Not to mention the benefits of utilizing FightCade for a near perfect online play experience! But you also have all the possibilities of shooters, custom shooter cabs, and any detachable peripherals, i.e. flight yoke etc. For those looking for a budget friendly way to condense your collection and gain quality and playability, this is probably one of the best options out there if you are DIY capable. Keep in mind, this also gives you the flexibility of a fullsize jamma setup for real coin-op play. Or, you can run a console setup. All of these opinions are expressed one way or another in this video, and they are just that; opinons based on my experience

Nice real world review. Good to hear from the gaming gals, which appears to be a growing number here. I like the idea of pre-cut, pre machined ready to assemble flatpak kits. Cnc tech has come a long way. Lots of mom and pop shops out there, eBay, etsy, web stores. Tough for small shops to keep up support, but being proactive on their end should be a priority. Only significant issues I see on this video are the panel gaps, assuming assembled correctly😅. If so, they should be sending out corrected replacement parts quickly,

If anything they ship fast and have a lot of design options. It’s a good shell only option at the very least - they have a $100 off sale right now too… But just remember the risks associated with purchasing their products 😂

This is why I’ve been leaning towards mini PC’s now. A single board computer like Raspberry Pi isn’t going to cut it anymore. Great build, SheLion, it looks beautiful despite the “stellar” customer service of GRS. How is it possible they’re still crummy in the customer service department?!
@NEONBattleBitch

Idk it’s def a bummer though, especially the seeming lack of care for the finished product. With there options/prices they could be a top competitor if they had good QC & better customer care. The mini PC’s are freakin’ awesome! Def the way to go. Thanks for watching and commenting! 🙏🏼

What I like about the vewlix cabs are how short they are. They just look like perfect sit down cabs. This kind of taller design doesn't quite do it for as much. Still not a bad looking build though. This video has me back on my "I should build an arcade" bullshit.
@NEONBattleBitch
@NEONBattleBitch 8 месяцев назад
It is taller but not by much, it’s 1000% a sit down cab. And I agree that’s what is very appealing about the VewLix. The Unico candy cab is on its way too, which is the same size as a real candy (if you’re looking at options). Thanks for watching!

I bought an Xmen 4 player Arcade 1up cabinet , and build multiple mods from GRS to help me get the job done. I had some issues with what they sent me. My monitor lacked the screws that were supposed to come with it, so i just used the screws I had and made it work. My control panel wires were too short on my player 2 controller. I thought may be I did something wrong at first as the player 2 controller buttons didn't work, as they kept getting disconnected or broke. I opted by some arcade wires and just rewired it myself and still ran into the same problem. I then really looked at it and saw the wires were getting caught between the wall of the machine as they crossed in front of it and would get damaged or disconnected when I tried close the machine up. They sent me some longer wires a few days later, and I was able to finish my build. It definitely took me more time than I was expectingbut I learned alot in the process. I still would buy things from them in the future, as I have, but I know which parts I like such as buying their larger monitors as have the matching graphics/bezel and are HDMI. I built a second machine later for Rampage and bought another monitor from them.(I basically built this one in a week as I planned it out better and knew what I was doing. I'd work on it for a couple hours after work and casually put it together as the parts came in.) I bought a control panel from another website(Which was a 2 player with 8 action buttons instead of 3 as there's not enough room for 3 players), and just bought an LED kit off amazon to put in myself.(Side note, if a controller kit as a single encoder for 2 controllers, the joysticks are actually assigned player 1 and 2 with in the devices, so be sure put them on the exact side they come assigned to. I found this out the hard way.), I highly recommend springing for the plexiglass cover if you're getting LED buttons. It protects the surface from damage, and the way the light bounces off the shiny surface looks great. I am happy with what I bought from GRS and might buy a larger cabinet from them at later date. I'd figure out what pieces I find easier to pay someone else to do, and then do the rest myself. (Cutting plexiglass sucks, I will let someone else do that.) If you're clueless on how do this sort of thing, you're probably better off paying for more of the work to be done, and finding someone who is a bit more knowledgeable to learn from or assist you if you know someone in real life. I watched a ton of youtube videos about modding and building arcade 1ups before I pulled the trigger and did it. I decided this was a much more affordable option than spending thousands on some uber high end custom made rig. I've had fun modding things since, I've built 4 different machine set ups.(a 2 player and 4 player Arcade 1up, a 2 player marvel superheroes countercade I basically completely gutted and rebuilt, and a 17 inch bartop arcade set up which is my most recent project.) I'm looking to test my might on building a virtual pinball machine next.

Thanks for this video! I'm new to the arcade cabinet hobby and had the exact same gripes with their website. A 3-D builder would be amazing! I'd also like to see them make spec sliders that would help you choose the best cabinet for you. As a newbie, it's pretty daunting looking through all their options and deciding upon one design because I don't know the benefits of one cabinet over another.

Spot on GRS review! Your cab looks freaking RAD! Great job! Ok, I had almost the exact same experience with GRS when I did my Super Gem Fighter / Pocket Fighter themed cab. I ordered the 3/4 scale level up cab and like you said their customer service reps are nice. But... There were no instructions, I got black tmolding instead of chrome but the tmolding was installed, so just kept it black. They did offer to send me the correct color. The back panel wasn't what was advertised. Unfinished edging behind the control panel. Misalgined back panels. Parts where not labeled. I had to watch 7 different videos from various you tubers including your first GRS build in order to figure out how to assemble it. What's on their website as far as assembly is more like brief overviews and most of the time the panels don't match what you have. With that said, the custom artwork that my son did turned out great and GRS did a fantastic job transferring it to the cabinet. I decided to use my own controls with Brooks fighting board while using a Ps4 and Xbox series S. At the end of the day I'm happy how it turned out but GRS needs to revamp their offerings and at least label the panels with some sort of instructions. Probably will not go back with GRS as I'm looking for a real Vewlix in 2024. As always, stay clean, stay safe and game on my Soul Sista!

100%, they def need to work on their QC and improve certain aspects of the experience. If some regular degular person was thinking they are getting a nice ready to go kit, they'd probably be confused & then pi$$ed lol! They have great variety and product potential, but I think the only way I'd buy anything from them again would be for a shell only. Thanks for watching!

Great video. I'm currently in the "do overtime to pay for this" stage of designing a cabinet. This is my first arcade project so wish me luck. A big draw of this for me is I want to be able to play four-player arcade beat-em-ups with my nephews and nieces. Turtles: Shredder's revenge seems like it would be a blast on a standup arcade. It looks like your kit uses a 32 inch monitor.. Would you say that there would be enough space for four people to stand around that, or would you suggest going up to a 42 inch monitor kit for a 4 player setup?
@NEONBattleBitch
@NEONBattleBitch Год назад
Totally subjective, but I'm perfectly fine with a 32" monitor. You figure back in the day everyone played 4P games on a 26" 4:3 - so it should be more than enough :) Also, these kits won't fit a bigger screen than 32".

My cabinet order is just days away from delivery, and after seeing a number of videos, I'm starting to see that a PC is the way to go, versus a Raspberry Pi 4. I'm also new to the arcade game, but not new to PC gaming builds. I'm sure at some point I will eventually swap out the RP4 for a PC, but what I'd like to see is that process and how it comes together from the switch of the components, to switching on the cabinet after that RP4/PC swap. I guess I'm not understanding is what has to be done, do files get transferred, where do the games come from, and how to configure the entire unit so when you turn on the cabinet it starts to play immediately.

Not the person you asked.. but it would be an entirely different build. Retropies are ran on a Linux based system while a pc build would typically be windows (unless there’s something idk that a pro could correct me on) Launchbox BigBox is the front end used in this video, it’s very straight forward and easy to customize and add everything you want in an arcade. It’s a little pricey to buy the lifetime license but we’ll worth it. Components typically wouldn’t need to be changed out as they usually connect using usb. I can disconnect my arcade joystick buttons and pcb and plug it straight into my pc USB port and it will work fine. PCBs usually run Xinput (the same as Xbox controllers) Games come from the seven seas.. it’s a legal grey area. You can find several tutorials on how to have a pc launch BigBox as soon as windows boots right here on RU-vid. Once retropie is installed on your SD card it should boot right up to the front end. Probably butchering some of this, but long story short the questions you ask and what you plan on doing is a GIANT rabbit hole of information that you’ll have to discover for yourself. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

@NEONBattleBitch
@NEONBattleBitch Год назад
If you're a DIYer, the kit by itself is worth the $650 imho. Or just with printed on graphics if you want it customized. But be weary, you might have to deal with QC issues... Otherwise the custom options are scarce elsewhere from my experience. The tankstick kit was no issues for me (as far as major QC), just had to deal with covering the marquee light and sealing the bezel, which was annoying, but it turned out nice once dealt with.

@Lastjustice
@Lastjustice 2 месяца назад
You can find Arcade 1ups cheap and mod them to play more games without too much effort. I agree them as a base item is totally not worth it in vast majority of cases, as have something that takes up that much space in your living space and only plays a handful of games simply is not a good use of space. They're a good shell for people who don't have much woodworking skills or the desire apply graphics. Given they're a standard size for most of them, you can find tons of mods than easily fit into them.
