Hope this helps for those of you looking for a gaming laptop! I forgot to mention battery life but for gaming laptops its not important they all suck. However, in 2020 we are starting to see some gaming laptops with massive batteries. Hit me up on instagra.com/mattmoniz123 or discord.gg/mattmoniz if you have any questions!
hmm, why cant i get a helios 300 (the gtx 1080 one) for 1499 on amazon, my parents say no they want a waste of budget 2500-3000 macbook that doesnt have much power at all, they say yes
Carlos Farias If it can lift the heavy, it can lift the light! Though if you don’t game much, there are other options that are lighter and have longer battery. But honestly, if you don’t mind a little extra weight, this laptop is going to be soooo much better of a value for your money than any thin and light.
Kentolope I’m flattered you’d ask me 😅 I bought my brother the ASUS TUF with a 1050 and ryzen 7. It’s his first gaming laptop so we got him the most basic one, but for his needs, it was more than capable. So one with a 1660ti, i believe that Mr. Moniz recommended one with the same specs. That should be a more than capable laptop for even a gamer that plays some demanding games :D
I think Matthew deserves more followers, he definitely earns it. Thanks for your guides, I bought a 2018 Acer Predator Helios 300, and I don't regret it, you went over almost everything. So thank you!
Thanks for the video ! I'm going to buy the Helios 300 soon so I hope is worthy to get it ! I never have a lapotp before but thank to your video's I Learn more about laptops and hopefully it will be a good purchase.
Great job as always! I feel really good about the Helios Predator 300 I grabbed. $839 Factory Refurbished from acer looks brand new. I like the heat management, screen, build quality, components and size. It really is the home run for me. The speakers are the only downside but headphones handle that without issue.
I got a 15.6inch HP Omen with 32GB of RAM, a 9th gen i7 CPU and an RTX 2070 GPU for $1400. Not in love with the style, but it's a significant upgrade to my previous machine and aesthetic isn't going to ruin me.
I bought my hp pavilion gaming laptop last week and im happy with it.I like this laptop because of how it look.It come with ryzen5 3550h,gtx1050 3gb,512gb ssd and 8gb 2400mhz single ram.I use it for gaming and also for my school work.It get hot easily while gaming and I planning to buy a laptop cooler.
@@troyhadge8300 Pretty damn good, I got a 15T with an RTX 2070 and 9th gen i7 just recently and it's essentially a desktop. As for the fan a $10 cooling pad and/or a small desk fan will do a lot to keep the laptop quiet.
you guys are not gonna believe me,a few days ago i ordered the Asus fx505 DU it got 120Hz display and the 1660 ti as Matthew mention in this video ! man im so glad i made this decision
The guide was pretty good. But categorise the aspects of a gaming laptop Like Thermals Performance Build(Aesthetics, keyboard and mouse) Upgradeability(Access to ram, storage) Display Portability and Battery
Liked this. Just wanted to say that I went with the Y540 with the gtx 1650 instead of a 1660ti because of thermals and sound. Yes, I game mostly on my laptop, but I don't always wear headphones while I do so, nor do I want all my internals to be hot. With the extra money I didn't spend on the the gpu upgrade the single 8 gb RAM module to 2x16GB modules. I'll still get a consistent 60fps on most games I play, medium setting.
Great video. Got a HP omen 15, 144hz, rtx2060, 16gb ram for a steal $1100 run amazing. it's pretty portable not bad carrying around. Modern warfare, halo Forza runs great on it. 100 agree don't go any lower than 1660ti.
As someone who has dealt with gaming laptops since the DIrectX7 days, the biggest issue that needs to be addressed with these is obsolescence. Whether you spend $700 or $2700, you need to understand at some point your gaming laptop will struggle and/or won't be able to play the AAA titles that come out 24-36 months from now as laptop GPU's are currently not upgradeable in the mainstream market (ironic considering the premise of PC gaming revolves around upgradability). The ultimate question is how much do you want to spend before you decide to liquidate it for cash for something current or come back to the dark side of desktop PC gaming.
You can game in 4K on these gaming laptops if they have 4K displays and RTX graphics. I have one that has a 4K display. I mainly bought it for video editing though.
I have the $999 _ASUS - ROG Strix G15 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 8GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti - 512GB SSD - Electro Punk_ Gaming Laptop. I've downloaded quite a few apps like Aura creator, Adobe Creative Cloud, Steam (_Hunt: Showdown_), Battle.net (_Overwatch_), Chrome, Origin (_Apex Legends_), Discord, etc. so *this alone does takes up 50% of my 8gb RAM storage when it sits idle and no apps are running* other than background processes. My *wifi is great quality*, never did I lag when I played on console connected via Ethernet to the router. My laptop, I have yet to understand what the lag issue is. I *recently ordered another 8gb RAM stick to install into my laptop* for my laptop to work faster since the i7 processor is good and my graphics card GTX 1650 Ti is good enough for the games I play, so my memory has to be the issue for lag and crashes. *When I play games, it crashes due to the RAM memory spiking to 100% and my CPU spikes to 90% according to my Task manager.* (Keep in mind it is already at 50% with the background processes running) Does anyone know if upgrading my RAM storage to 16gb will solve my problem? Or if I should just buy a new laptop with higher graphics card, processor, and RAM?
Best gaming laptop high budget : Razer blade 15 Best do it all laptop affordable : MSI Prestige 15 Ultrabook : HP Spectre / HP envy Powerfull ultrabook : Razer blade Stealth
I've got an MSI P65 with a 1060, its plays games pretty well but the lowkey design and huge battery life are primarily why I chose it over a budget laptop with better specs.
Acer Helios 300. Got it on Black Friday from Amazon for $930 US IIRC. Best deal out there. Great gaming laptop. Added a second SSD because 256gb is just way too small for gaming.
I found an MSI GF65 Thin with a GTX 1660 TI, 8GB of RAM (Which is no issue as I can stick another 8gb in for cheap) an i5-9300H, and a 512GB ssd for 845€ on HID Revolution waiting for it to arrive now to replace my Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro GTX edition which has been my main gaming machine for a little over a year now.
Hi matthew, i know this question is out of topic but i really want to know... where did you buy the hoodie you wear? Hahaha i know the question is dumb but is really slick and style to see you wearing it all the time feel like a razer vibe on that hoodie too 🤩
Great video, been researching endlessly on which one to get. Be my first gaming laptop, but am figuring out just what I need to begin. The emphasis on the GPU was good to know, as other videos tried to cover maybe too much for a beginner. Will be subscribing!!
@@genegade well, I needed a mobile platform, so I sold my 9600K/2070 OC tower and got the Triton. Believe it or not, I didn't find myself downgrading (even with a less powerful CPU and GPU), the only thing I suffered from is temps (not because the Triton has bad thermals, but because I had water cooling on my rig). Actually I am controlling clock speeds and voltages (I enjoy doing this) and I find the temps are really good compared to other laptops. I think this would be good for another 3 years minimum. I am playing COD MW with RTX on and optimal graphics settings at 100 fps average! Crazy...
Regarding the size, I would say that 17 is already very portable but allows for greater cooling (ideally), thus allowing for better performance. So if a person wants to just game on it 17" should be the thing to go. But if you are a creative and need the hardware of a gaming laptop for content creation, 15" might be a better idea. Just my two cents :)
I ended up getting a gtx1050 nitro 5, after putting 16gb ram, it may not be the best but, I still think it's great, I was on a tight budget and for the money is a great laptop after a quick upgrade
Well... Look. The new intel Iris 650 can play your usual E-Sport titles such as Overwatch, Fortnite, Lol, DotA2, Starcraft 2, Rocket League, CS:GO, R6 Siege and other lighter games with decent framerate; I'm talking over 40 and even over 60 fps when played in low to mid setting, in either 720 or 1080p. Which means laptops like Acer Swift, Hp Specter / Envy, Dell XPS 13 and other ultrabooks, as long as they have the newest 10th Gen Intel chips...they can game. They ALSO have great battery life that can last you 7 to 9 hours doing daily tasks and entertainment. They're kinda costly though. 1 kidney at least.
@Matthew Moniz I think its interesting you say stick with Intel and I would 100% agree if not the AMD Ryzen 4000 CPUs are gonna be in literally every upcoming laptop in 2020 now. So for this moment in time its Intel but in a month or two I would 100% get a laptop with the new AMD Ryzen 4000 CPUs.
Al nice and dandy but...what I really would like to see is a review on tech support, and quality of service of the various brands. We are dumping loads on bling bling on these things but when there’s a problem I see all kind of mixed hellish experiences when trying to get a repair during warranty or ourside.
Alejandro Mendoza what are you planning to use it for? Most people are better off with a PC they can truly upgrade, such as an iBuyPower or CyberPower prebuilt or one they build themselves, and then a thin-and-light for the road. With a thin-and-light, you can stream your games from home or a streaming service and you don’t have to haul the power with you, not to mention that you don’t pay the premium for fitting powerful components into a laptop. A $1,000 desktop and $250 laptop are a better bet than a $2,000 laptop for all-around use if you buy the right ones.
@@djsnowpdx thanks so much for the reply since every year I'm away from home for 4 months I wanted to have a gaming PC with me but that's difficult that's why I thought about a laptop but at the same time since I'm most time of the year at home (8 months ) a powerful pc would be awesome after 7 years my old laptop died so I really need a solution for that right now
I'm torn between the Razer Blade 15 and the Helios 300, both with a 1660Ti. The Blade looks so damn good and I love Razer stuff, but I could save so much if I went with the Helios 300. Much tougher decision than I thought.
I have to get a new laptop to replace my 6-year-old Asus. My current laptop is best for web browsing, email, and playing some games, but it has only an integrated Intel graphics card with no video RAM. For my next laptop, I would like a USB C port and a much brighter screen along with discrete graphics, VRAM, and an SSD.
As for the port selection, if you are wanting a Thunderbolt 3 port for an External GPU or really fast portable drive make sure you look for that as alot will have a USBC port but not T3, for cheaper ones only a couple have them with one of them being the HP Omen
well too bad i already bought one but yeah i did buy that by watching your old videos and watching this anyway cause there is always something new to learn and its fun < 3 < 3
For anyone watching in 2020. Zephyrus G14 has blown it out of the water with the new amd chipset in terms of performance AND boasting rediculous battery life compared to Intel comparatives in 17'' laptops. Check it out.
Wow when I subscribe you there is 46k now 400k above congratulation Matthew. You are doing best for guiding us for laptop. And I buy acer p helios 300 coz of ur review. Soon you will be million
Thanks for the rundown! Quick Question: Based on what you've seen, should those of us in the market for a 14" device hold out hope for improved models (i.e. better thermals and/or GPU options) in the next few months?
I'm a newbie to pc gaming and I messed up and got the ASUS ROG strix g531gt and it has the GTX 1650 GPU and only 8 GB of ram. I foolishly got it thinking the 1650 would be better than a 1080ti. It's a great laptop and runs anything I need flawlessly for the most part. Apparently you can upgrade the ram in my laptop but I have no clue how
I have a MSi laptop with 1650 nvidia 4gb and i5 9gen 9600H and 16 Gb of Ram for 850 bucks. I can rup RDR2 optimized from 40 to 50 fps. In saint dennis i get 30 to 35 fps.
Yeah this info seems very accurate I looked for a laptop to handle vr effectively to use with quest and link and found one with a max p rtx 2070 and been more than happy with the performance
To be honest the only laptops I consider buying now are the Walmart ones (Overpowered/EVOO). They just offer the best bang for the buck. A RTX 2060 and i7 9750H 17 inch laptop for $1000? Yes please.
I really wish they would offer laptops that fall in the 1440p range. Most of the games I play aren't super competitive so I don't need crazy high framerates. I would really love something that could offer a good balance between framerate and visuals without killing the graphics card.
Can we get some love for the Zephyrus M(RTX 2060)? Also, I would love for you to do a detailed video on the Cuda and Tensor cores on the mobile RTX series and how that translates to Ray tracing performance! Love your videos!
I know that my RTX 2060 max q actually does decently well (40-70fps depending on the game) with ray tracing as long as DLSS is on, and literally every other RTX card is better than it so... as long as you get any RTX card you should be good for ray tracing.
popo I have the Asus Zephyrus G14, so not quite the same computer but similar to the Zephyrus M, and yeah, ray tracing is SUPER demanding. My computer gets to around 80-85c on the cpu, and around 75c on the GPU when running super demanding ray tracing things. Surprisingly, Minecraft RTX is actually one of those demanding ones where I only get around 40fps(also Minecraft PTGI gets about 45fps, but that’s different, not RTX). However I get about 70fps on Deliver us the Moon. So yeah. Also I didn’t undervolt, as I’m not sure how to do that with the Ryzen processor. Anyways, hope that helps at least a little! Edit - Wanted to clarify Deliver us the Moon with RTX on, not with it off, haha
@@connorrauscher7906 A 65w 2060 pushing 70fps on DUTM sounds impressive! AMD really stepped up their game these couple of years. I was new to undervolting so I bricked my laptop in the process, it went into a BSOD loop and they had to change my mobo, fortunately ryzen does a better job at thermals; it's mostly the CPUs that throttle, I just use a cooling pad now, haha
popo Oh geez, sorry to hear about bricking it, glad you got it fixed! But yeah CPUs definitely get warm, but it’s also amazing how powerful computer components are nowadays in laptops. Crazy stuff! And cooling pads always help :)
Hey man great video and after watching it I believe as of now Acer Predator Helios 300 is the best laptop in my budget in India or do you have any other suggestions in the same price range?
If you need performance now, then buy a msi gt76. if possible wait until someone sells a laptop with a amd 3950! Twize the cores is worth the waiting. It is what i am doing. Don t care about graphic card or storage, if you have a thunderbold port you can always attach a external docking station/external pcie/gpu.
I would say that if someone is looking at RTX2070, they shud just go all the way to RTX2080 itself. There is a huge difference in prices between 2060 and 2070 for all laptop models (especially for thin and light ones like GS65) but there isnt much difference in performance. 2070 max q is useless!! Just shell out 200 more and get the 2080 max q version. It should last you for at least 3 years
It's killing me not being able to 'test' the laptop(s). I need a new one myself and have been researching since Feb. I've narrowed it down three or four times and I'm still undecided.
I’m going to pick up a asus GX701. Missed out when the 2080 had £700 off a few days back. The 2070 version is £800 cheaper than the 2080, only difference are the 2070 has a 300hz screen& the 2080 a 240hz. Same cpu, same 32ram
the chassis also is one thing one should take into consideration many brands claim to have an all aluminium build but the metal used is soo thin that the laptop cant take its own weight and can bend while picking up from the corners (the dell g7 15) also that the keyboard should have n-key roll over
In my country I cought a promotion which sold a Lenovo Legion y540 with i7-9750 cpu, 2060 RTX gpu, 144 Hz, 16 RAM and 512 Gb ssd, plus a great legion backpack, professional legion mouse, great legion headphones and a jersey from their sponsored esports team for 1399€
Not gonna lie, I'm not a gamer, I just want a laptop that's going to run Minecraft and Sims 4 with a bunch of stuff added on. I don't understand anything about computers, but all I know if my HP Pavilion that I've had for barely 3 years won't run too strongly, and now shuts off when I unplug it at all. I don't know if I'm supposed to get a gaming laptop, or if another one would suffice. My budget is under $1,500, and I am completely lost.
Great video, I like it. However, I disagree with one thing - the 1660ti gpu minimum. Guys, if you are casual gamers, who play light indie projects or e-sports titles, a regular 1050 is still for smooth 60fps gaming and you can find them with a good price too.
Can anyone help me out with purchasing a laptop for audio production? For audio I need tons of cpu power and RAM and not much gpu. Also it would be nice to have the CPU preformance close to or equivalent to the desktop Ryzen 7 3700X. Any suggestions?
Looking to get my first gaming laptop dont need anything crazy would like to play games at decent high setting. I want a Helios but not sure if I should go with the one with i5 8gb ram and 512gb storage or is it worth pay a extra few hundred bucks for the i7 16bg ram and 256gb storage. I can upgrade the ram on my own so is it worth getting the i7 with less storage and more ram or will the i5 do me just fine. Thanks for the help
