WOW was wondering if you were going to do a gaming projector review and .... You KILLED it! Thank you, I feel like this video simply explains which projectors are good for my scenarios and my budget!
Wow, that was truly in depth, you really know your stuff. Ive been into projectors for decades, and always knew how good dlps were, but still didn't know all the nooks and crannies etc e.g. the difference between a 0.65 inch chip and 0.45 chip... Great video. 💪👌👍
Especially it's the contrast where it's at... The ANSI contrast test(black and white checkerboard) usually slaughters projectors, you won't find models that have above 1000:1 contrast
Nice work as always! I was waiting for this one to drop as I've been checking out the X1 and X2 4K and saw that you were going to do the shootout when you mentioned it over on AVS Forum. Looks like I'll be getting the BenQ i500 or X2!
The dude made me so interested about projectors. Well i bought a cheap ass one but will plan to buy a UST projector one day. Surely will be tuning out for future products from his reviews
The noise from thr pixel shifting motor was a deal breaker for me when purchasing a 4k projector 4 years ago. The humming noise is just rediculous! Im surprised this issue hasnt been weeded out yet. I purchased an 72" Tv instead. Going to wait on the 4k projector untill they remedy the awful noise. Fantastic Review, very Informative!
Mate, You have no idea how much i appreciate you for uploading these types of detailed content and more so for uploading these today. Was literally going to pull the trigger on the x3100i. Though still confused as the x500i has the smaller 0.47 Chip inside
Same! I was just about to get the x3100i, instead of hisense c1 because it's much brighter and I would like to use it outside in the evening. not sure what to do now :))
Thank you for these reviews, it is serious dedication of time, and effort on your part!!! I decided 4k is great, but because of the distance, and my living room setup that I cannot switch to a higher end setup, because I cannot tell the difference! Especially with plain off white walls to just stick with 1080p for the budget price and quality of the PJ40. But, I have seen your earlier videos about flex seal paint ect… but would love to see an updated review of screen paint, because I have seen many new screen paints on the market!!! I am interested in purchasing this paint primarily for daytime use. It seems from other reviews to really make a daytime difference. (Side note: I was lead to use a short throw projector versus Ultra Short throw because of my fireplace blocking location of projector placement.) Btw, Speakers have not been important to me, because I use a 7.2 Channel surround, but I would love to see a review video for ease of use for Bluetooth setups because I am interested in the cordless functionality. I would like to see this because The Bluetooth marketing is very confusing! Bluetooth 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 ect….. Also, I would like to compare how easy the setup process would be for the Bluetooth setup would be for some of your favorite projectors. Ontop of this I found the marketing for WiFi especially in the budget projector market to make some big big claims, WiFi 6 ect….I know there also WiFi speaker setups so this is also very confusing. Looking forward to see how you might review this the future!
This is a great review - Thanks! For those who care about black levels, contrast and sharpness, my pick would be Lx700-4k. BenQ models have RBE and blurry edges, have not seen that with ViewSonic models.
That is not backed up by the data from this video. The LX700-4k had relatively poor black levels in full power mode (0.101nits) and has an unusable dynamic black mode due to noticeable "steps" in laser dimming. The X2-4K's black levels were much better even with dynamic black mode off (0.067nits) and had a very usable dynamic black mode with a black floor of 0.034nits. The RBE was no different on the BENQ vs the Viewsonic models in this video, and I would say overall the focus on the BENQ units was better than the Viewsonics.
@@TheHookUp dynamic black mode is bad, use cinema or game mode on lx700 for best black levels with contrast +10 and brightness -12. May be your setup is different - for me in a 155 inch screen in pitch black environment, I have tested many BenQ models (Ht4550, Ht3560). I found lx700 having superior black levels sharpness and brightness with no RBE or speckles. I agree it falls short on color accuracy. Just my perspective...
Dynamic black is not a picture mode, it's under lamp options. You get "constant power", "dynamic black" and "eco", and those are all selectable for each picture mode. The tests in this video were done in Cinema. LX700-4k has better native blacks than the ht4550i (and X3100i) for sure, but not better than the X500i. HT4550i blows the LX700-4K out of the water in terms of color accuracy though.
I didnt have time to get to even halfway so if you mentioned this later in the vid, my bad. Dudes if youre deciding between the Nexigo and one of the BenQs and leaning towards BenQ you should keep in mind..the differnce between 8.6ms and 16ms input lag will be nothing. To anybody. Discernible input lag is way higher to the eye. He uses expensive testing equipment so everythings precise. Tbh, flatout...not even close in this list of PJs the Nexigo is the automatic choice. If ultra short throw is an option that is. The specs after testing on everything will blow them all out overall. And dont forget to use his link to buy any projector hes tested. Just search hook up projectors and the make and model. If hes reviewed it, the video will pop up. And just my little old opinion and only in the interest of helping...the Aurora Pro is the obvious winner. Serious gamers ( not professional perhaps) watch movies too dont ya? Its so much better.
Another really great video! Much appreciated as always. I was wondering if the X500i did have the .65" chip, but that was part of the press releases, so I will have to try to store that away and ensure I remember it. Good to hear how well the X500i holds up in this shootout. The 2150ST for years was a solid model, and the X500i is LONG overdue as a short throw gaming model from them. Great to hear it does so well.
Wonderful comparison! Great review! But comparing WCG mode of X3100i is not good idea. Because normal HDR10 mode showing quite better image quality than HDR10(WCG). In spite of contrast number is quite better X500i but the image of X3100i looks much better than X500i in SDR. I think HDR mode would be similar result if WCG mode was turn off. Anyway your review was fantastic.
hello, can the x2-4k mounthed on the ceiling if the throw distance is only 1,5m from the screen? Cause i fugure it has to be very low mounted on the ceiling to get the keystone right? And then the projector will protude into the screen. I mean it will be in the viewing field right? I dont want to see the projector in my sight while im wathing the screen.
The vertical offset is 0, meaning the bottom of the screen is lined up with the bottom of the lens. When ceiling mounting the projector is upside down, so top of the screen is aligned with the top of the lens.
@@TheHookUp thanks for replieng! So just to understand it correctly. If my screen top egde is about 15-20cm to the ceiling, the projector on the ceiling has to be mounted 15-20cm too? Not near the mid level of the screen, right? Just for you to understand: I want to use the projector in my bedroom! My bedroom has 3,30meter from one wall to the other. Means I will be viewing the scrren from 3,60meters. My Screen is 100" in size. You think I can mount the projector 1,5 Meters(thats the throw distance to get 100" on the x2-4K) from the screen on the ceiling, to a hight, where it want be protrude into the viewing field without using the software keystone correction? I mean will it be high enough, so that it want be distracting? Would be totaly distracting to see it in the picture. Also can you please tell me if the black levels are good on the Viesonic LX700 4k on the eco mode with hdr footage? Cause i couldnt figure this out when ive watched the video. Im hasitating between these to projectors. x2 has nice black levels but the lx 700 has brightness, wich is need for 3d viewing(cause shutter glasses) Also one question finaly: Has the lx 700 4k these weird colored reds? On my viewsonix px 701 4k the reds are kind a like orange. Explosions and flames looks off and weird. THANK YOU!
I have a Viewsonic 4K projector for over 3 years. The movies and games look crazy at 120 inches Bright, sharp, colorful even with some light on. Has low input made for gaming. This projector destroyed my. Yaber, DBpower, Vankyo and other Amazon projectors I had.
Depends on which one! I've had a p700hd in my bedroom since 2020. It's been absolutely fantastic. On a 1.1 gain elite screen pulldown, it was good. But on a high gain 2.6 gain fixed screen, wow. Just wow. Match made in heaven. But the ViewSonic 748-4k... So it's extremely bright. Problem is, I bought it 14 times. 14. ViewSonic got mad because one broke on me, and absolutely refused to send me another, until I changed the name and address. It broke too. Just nada. My guess, their newer frames are WAY too small as well as the fan. Because the p700hd is still going today, even after being outside often on a 200" screen
Been looking forward to this video for a week since I saw your post on Reddit. Really hoping the Viewsonic LX700-4K holds up. It looks sooo promising on paper. I'm sure your super in depth great videos will tell me all I need to know though. :D
Im using one and its working great for me. One important thing for me is it was basically the only 4K Laser Gaming projector with eARC at its price point. I looked at the X2-4K and it really seemed like it performed better and has a lot of nicer options like a nice remote and built in wifi and internal power supply, but I needed eARC and the X2-4K does not have it. And I really needed standard throw not short throw.
@@jason3fc I'm in kind of the same boat with needing standard throw and not short throw. 0.95 to 1.05 really. But that's good to hear that it works great. I've heard so much about it being very faulty at the moment. Having faulty HDR implementation that is stuck on. That kind of thing. Seen people in forms say they have had it replaced twice already. So kinda put me off. But at least some people are having a good experience. I don't really know what eARC is or why that's so important though?
@@jason3fc One question I have is the brightness varies so much depending on what mode you use. 2734lm in bright mode 1784lm in movie mode 1988lm in game mode But can you still do 1440p 120Hz in the bright mode? Or would you even want to? are the colours terrible? is input lag noticeably worse?
I don't have much bad to say about the LX700-4K other than the fact that the dynamic black mode is unwatchable so the 5000:1 contrast ratios that some reviewers are reporting is not usable. Overall the color accuracy wasn't as bad as some people are complaining about and I didn't have any issues with HDR, though I'd still recommend turning off HDR at the source since SDR will look better on a single laser projector.
@@HoneyTwee I havent had any issues with HDR going off and on, it seems to work fine, though most non-gaming sources I am using is Apple TV. eARC is so I can route sound back out directly to my Soundbar/Sonos system which requires HDMI input. Also I watch and play in a mostly darkened room so don't really have many concerns about brightness, but its brighter than my previous Optoma UHD 55.
Can you please do a comparison between jmgo n1s ultra 4k ultimate edition 3500cvia vs the n1s ultra 3000cvia vs formovie theatre vs awol 3500, this was we get to know how far have short throw projectors have come, are they worth the extra money, or long throws are still ahead. This also let's people choose for when they have an option to place either.
Thank you very much for your obvious hard work on these reviews, there are very few who actually do it as thoroughly and unbiased as you. Cheers! There are a few things I have been wondering about however: you review them in their most 'colour-correct'-mode, usually something 'Cinema' or alike, without calibrating them. Is this because it is an uncommon practise with projectors? Or is it hard to do? Because I would assume that some projectors would be a whole lot better once calibrated (as with TV's) but I am not quite sure how do-able this is for the average user. As someone who is currently looking for a projector (and, quite frankly, doubting between the x500i, the 3100 and the Epson 3800) I find it rather hard to weigh in your assessment of these specific projectors as-they-are, versus how good they could possible be once properly calibrated/configured. From a purely theoretical/specification perspective I find it hard to see why the x500i could be better than the 3100 but you have obviously demonstrated otherwise (shame I rather have a slightly more silent long-throw projector). I settled on ordering the 500i and see if it works for me. Just read in your other comments the reason why you don't review 'lamp' projectors, interesting. Would have loved a side-by-side of the x500i and the 3800 but I guess I won't be seeing that anytime soon. Never figured that lamp projectors vary so much in their early lamp-lifetime. Looking forward to your paint video and keep up the good work!
I would estimate less than 1% of projector owners get their projectors calibrated. The equipment, software, and experience required to do it well makes it an impossibility to DIY. Depending on the projector you may be able to get away with a $500-600 colorimeter, but for newer tri-laser projectors a proper spectroradiometer with narrow enough resolution can cost $8000-10000.
3D support is so important for projectors, I'm glad you mentioned that near the 23-min mark. It's one of the major reasons to get one, otherwise a TV is usually best
i am still not sure to get the Nexigo pro or the awol 3000/3500 pro. gaming is most important thing with 4k 60hz or 1440p at 120. after that comes watching movies. Did you do some testing with the awol ust aswell or is it not suited for gaming and thats why you didnt include it in this video?
On the most recent firmware the AWOL 3500 Pro measures at 18.3ms for 4k60hz and 85.3ms for 1080p120hz, 31.7ms at 1080p240hz and 18.4ms at 1440p120hz. However, the 1440p120hz measurement is not stable, which indicates that it might be dropping every other frame and displaying at 1440p60hz, but I'd need to do further testing on blur busters to validate that.
Hi I have purchased Zebornics Pixaplay 28 & My doubt is that company mention 30,000hrs lamp life that is real or fake . Most of Budget projectors mention high lamp life than expensive projector has less lamp life . Why?
was hoping u would have the dangbei mars pro 2/dbox 02 review couldnt wait and bought. Looks great but the 3d is borked and update hopefully is coming early July
I am almost sure I will buy X500i but I wonder if 2000 lumens is enought for 0.85 gray screen at 104"? It will be close to a walls (small attic room, it should fit just between roof sides), so I'm worried that white screen will wash out colors/contrast.
Great comparison as always! I like the Benq x500i for its short throw distance but I'm not really a gamer. What are other good short throw distance options? I think that short throw distance comparison could be a good video (not ultra short, just short)
This review was fantastic, your breakdown of the technology and the fact you put the camera on the rail and slid it to show the rainbow effect was absolteIy brilliant. I know this is probably super niche but I am in the process of looking for a good projector specifically for 3D. I've watched about 8 of your videos so far. My budget is around $1000 but I am ok with a used unit. Currently I'm leaning towards the XGIMI Horizon Pro but I know that it has contrast issues based on your other fantastic reviews. Also I don't need the 4k, and although I like the increase lifespan of laser and led backlights, they aren't strictly a requirement. I doubt anyone else really cares about 3D, but seeing as the only current official offers that support 3D are projectors, and searching for "best 3d projector" gives one AI generated garbage videos/websites. Perhaps you might get some results with a short 2-3 minute video. I very much appreciated your addition of information about which projectors support 3d on the spec intro for each projector, it was helpful :)
XGIMI Horizon Ultra is the best 3D experience I've ever had. I am not super sensitive to RBE, but I see lots of "flicker" in some 3D projectors. Horizon Ultra had no flicker and was an overall excellent experience. Black levels leave something to be desired, but 3D tends to darken things significantly anyways. I know you said your budget was around $1000, but if you've got a little stretch I don't think you'd regret it if 3D is a big selling point for you. Otherwise I'd wait because there are a bunch of new lifestyle projectors coming out this year so we'll probably see some good price cuts on existing models.
@@TheHookUp Wow!!! Thanks so much for your reply! I will review your videos concerning the XGIMI Horizon Ultra vs the XGIMI Horizon Pro. Perhaps there is sufficient difference to justify the cost. I can get the XGIMI Horizon Pro relatively cheap used where I am $700. Also I was looking most recently at the OPTIMA GT3500HDR which is the new laser variant of the OPTIMA GT5600 UST projector. The GT3500HDRseems to be on sale for $1275 on Amazon sometimes according to some posts online, meanwhile the GT5600 can be bought for $600 on ebay. I don't need 4k so the 1080p projectors seem to make a degree of sense. EDIT: One other thing you could add in addition to if a projector supports 3d on the spec page is perhaps at what refresh rate it natively supports it, 120 / 144 are the most common these days it seems. You can measure this pretty easily with a photo diode (or probably some of the other gear you have).
Great video, as always. Have you tested the BenQ TH685? It seems like a good deal for 120Hz and 8 ms response time, but I'm not sure about the contrast ratio and color accuracy.
@@TheHookUp Hi❣ Please, if I ask for your help in choosing the appropriate projector, will you help me or are you unable to do so due to other matters related to you? I apologize for disturbing you
X300G will be in my lifestyle projector video, but my initial impressions are that the X500i is a better projector if you plan on a more permanent setup.
It was such a good review. Please analyze the newly released LG Cinebeam Cube in detail. LG says that Cinebeam Cube has a very high DCI-P3, and I wonder if that is true.
The X500i is MUCH more color accurate if that's something you're interested in. The C1 is much more vibrant and punchy, but not necessarily true to the source video. I did do a side by side here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qQ5j7R9nQdc.html The C1 is a little more red shifted in this video than in real life due to the tri-laser. I usually do an eye-match (perceptual match) using my calibrated monitor during testing, but didn't do that for this clip.
Man I'm so curious about your take on the ''new'' jmgo n1S and the new dangbei dob2. I wonder if they solved the intense laser specle on the jmgo. But being brighter, hmmmm I don' t know...
Can you do a review of the new Dangbei Mars 2 that’s out now? Also curious if you could research and do a video on streamers etc that do tone mapping or even the HDFury to force Dolby vision(LLDV) keep up the stellar videos, you rock!
Great review and comparison video. I was waiting with anticipation for your review of the BenQ X500i, thank you. I appreciate it very much. I noticed a kind of green tint towards the end of the video on the golfer and I guess the overall image. Is there any reason for this and could be a negative with the x500i?
Thank you for the informative reply. I was really worried that this projector would have a persistent green tent over pretty much every image. I heard that it’s common for projectors that use a color wheel to suffer from this issue.
Pretty much all RGB projectors will green shift when set to their brightest mode, that's because green is the brightest of all of the individual colors, so if you turn all the colors to max the green will be oversaturated.
I'd like to see you test the BenQ HT2060. On paper it should be even better value than the X500i. -It has better colors than the X500i (98% vs 95% rec709) -better native contrast (2000:1) -still supports 1080p@120hz for gaming with 8ms lag which should satisfy most console gamers -accepts 4k/HDR signals (important because a lot of streaming services lock Dolby Atmos to 4k streams) All for under $1k. You lose the 4k shift but that's one of the negatives on the x500i anyway.
2060 doesn't really support 1080p120, it downscales to 60hz. That means you can get the benefit of lower input lag, but motion blur will be just as bad as 60hz and you may notice increased stutter from the dropped frames. I can't think of a reason why it would have better color space coverage or contrast since it uses the same light source and DMD. Where do you see the 2000:1 native contrast?
It was a great video. I am Japanese and was looking for a detailed comparison video of projectors but could not find one, and when I was having trouble I came across this video. It is a very detailed and easy to understand video. Thank you very much. After watching some of your videos, I am thinking of buying x2-4k or mars pro. I also want to play games on the projector. So I have a question: the mars pro has a game mode, but is the delay actually so bad that it interferes with play? Also, the x2-4k seems great with less latency, but is it inferior in terms of image beauty? I am not sure whether to prioritize the delay or the image. Which would you recommend?
Don't go with the mars pro, as the latency is very high... Based on budget, you shall decide nomvdic p1000 < x2 < x500i.. i would personally go with x2, as the price difference between x500i and x2 is around 65000 Yen... P1000 is 20% less color accurate and less brighter compared to x2 and x500i..
Fantastic video as always. I would be curious as to what you think about the X500i vs the Nomvadic P1000 and Benq 4550i. I personally found the 4550is raised blacks to be a little distracting and it had a rainbow look when playing games in 1080p 120hz. Not 4k though. Im more curious just about your take from an overall picture quality stand point though and contrast between the three. Sorry as I know you have tons of comments and questions.
X500i is definitely the best of those three in my opinion. When I tested the HT4550i I didn't find the dynamic eco mode particularly usable because it made abrupt and noticeable laser power changes, but I guess it's possible they've updated that with firmware. The X500i was much better in that regard and the dynamic black mode was very good. P1000 is probably the worst of the 3.
@@TheHookUp Thank you. I also had the same experience with Eco mode on the 4550i. I spent so much time switching back and forth with it and normal. I desperately wanted Eco to work because of the improved blacks but there were just too many things I didn't like about it for the price. I've bought 6 projectors from your recommendations. You sold me on this one. I'll use the link again as always to show support.
The x500i arrives tomorrow based on your review. You have never let me down. Any suggestions for best picture settings on presets? Normal mode for SDR? HDR10 for HDR? And do you recommend ECO or dynamic to help contrast/black levels? Thanks as always for the amazing content.
I have a Nvidia Shield TV Pro and a older gaming PC for streaming and MKV movies. I game on Xbox series X. Is the BenQ still the top choice over the X2 if you don't use the built-in streaming dongle?
Both were in my choices to buy .. I went with the x3100i because my movie room is my game room and the 4550i doesn’t come close with input lag to the x3100
4550i and X3100i are very similar in terms of gaming performance and overall performance. HT4550i gets you horizontal lens shift in addition to vertical but costs $500 more.
Not sure if you could help with this but recently i had an idea since ive been wanting to start streaming during some free time...and i want to use a projector, but the only thing im having a hard time with is how would i set it up? for example could i set it up the traditional way and incorporate it as a "green screen" or can i set a projector screen behind me and get a webcam and stick it in front of my face and still get good quality streams without having to buy a expensive pc/capture cards etc..
The noise level will be the same as 4k60hz because the XPR motor runs at that same frequency for 1440p120hz. No issues mirroring as long as both displays support that output resolution and refresh rate.
What do you think about benq w5800? Is it better than w4000i (4550)? I am stuck between sony 5000es (degradation problems) epson 12000 (reliable and does everything maybe not at best) and w5800. Your help will be appreciated 😊
I really like your comparisons, thank you, but I would really like to see a comparison between Dangbei DBOX02(Mars Pro 2), BenQ TK710, BenQ x3100i and JMGO N1S Ultra.
I do have all of those, but they aren't really in the same class of projectors. I'll be doing a lifestyle projector review in late September that will have DBOX02, N1S Ultra, BENQ X300G, and a few others.
HDR kind of sucks on projectors. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are much better implementations. Have you watched this video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NCfnwnLk8Yo.html
That's the review I was waiting for, thank you The Hook Up! What projector should I buy if the projector is 3.50m (11.5 ft) away from the wall? Will the picture quality of the Benq x500i remain good or should I buy the X3100i which seems to be designed for longer throw distance ?
@@samsassoli2837 11.5ft is 138", a 135" screen is 117.5" wide, so you'll need a throw ratio of 1.17 for that combo. The X500i has a max ratio of 0.83 so you will need something in the range of the X3100i.
Have you tested projector stacking, where you use two projectors to produce the image? always wondered how two cheaper projectors compared to a higher priced projector. It may not be worth the hassle to line the two images up but its something i've always wanted to see. like two Paris Rhone 4ks vs a C1 or formovie X5 or Horizon pro.
@TheHookup - Thanks so much for these videos, they really help. I'm stuck with a need for a (traditional) short throw projector @ 7ft distance x 120'' screen - I'll use is for movies and TV, not so much gaming and it'll be in a finished basement w/low (though not zero) ambient light. The need for REGULAR short throw, really limits my options. Trying to be under $3k on the budget, and I see a lot of these "gaming projectors". My biggest concern is image quality. I think I'm down to this x500i and the just released TK710Sti (which has friggin' lasers!) - but will a "gaming" projector work well for my needs? Any other standard short throw options I'm missing? (I'm coming from a 12 year old 720p Benq W710ST, so I'm sure just about anything is an upgrade.)
The X500i is an excellent movie watching projector with the one exception that it doesn't have MEMC (if that's something you're into). The color accuracy, contrast, and clarity are the best you can get at that budget. I don't have a 710STi yet, but I should have one to review in the next month or two.
Dope as always. But you should definitely brightness match the projectors when comparing them. Hard to truly evaluate black levels and color saturation between projectors when one projector is 600 lumens brighter.
@@TheHookUp lol, huh? It’s more like just turning the laser brightness down to the match output of the lowest lumen projector. Again how can accurately evaluate black levels between two projector if one projector is 600 lumens brighter. You don’t think the LX700-4K can match the x500i black levels if its laser output was set between 60-70%?
@@TheHookUp but you weren’t using contrast levels to elevate one projector over the other. It’s seems like the lowest lumen projector on a 100” white screen won not the projector with the greatest contrast.
I love all the projector videos. Thank you for taking the time and I purchased a couple using your affiliate link. Would love if you can do a video on projecting on the house. I am trying to find a good projector for projecting holiday decorations on the house but need something that is bright and can fill the entire house. I know this may not be something that everyone does and may be niche. However, there is no RU-vid videos on this exact subject. Some explain what you should look for and name a couple of brands and models which is very outdated and there is no actual real world comparisons. Hope you read this and consider it. Thanks again
You mean no youtube videos on selecting a projector, or none about actually projection mapping? It's a pretty niche topic unfortunately, and everyone's budget and installation specifics will be different making it pretty hard to do a "one size fits all" kind of comparison.
None on selecting a projector for mapping. There are tutorials on how to map your house, but none of them go into detail on what is the best projector for your house. They tell you look for these specs but as you know specs aren’t always true.
Would love to see a comparison/review with the newly released Benq TK710 to see how it holds up with brightness and contrast with the upgraded laser light source.
Did you notice any short throw artifacts with the BenQ/Viewsonic short throw projectors? Focus uniformity (can't get all 4 corners and middle focused) and/or barrel distortion? (sides of picture slightly curved?)
Nope, the short throws were nice and sharp. As long as you can set your projector up to use without keystone and you're projecting onto a a screen without waves you will not notice any significant differences based on throw ratio.
Hi thanks for the great video it led to me purchasing the X500i. Just a question when you mention dynamic black mode how is that enabled? Or is it just enabled when the light setting is set to dynamic and not eco? Many thanks !
I actually did a side by side but didn't include it in the video. The X500i is MUCH more color accurate if that's something you're interested in. The C1 is much more vibrant and punchy, but not necessarily true to the source video.
@@TheHookUp Hi Robert, I was wondering if there's any place to see the side-by-side comparison between the X500I and the C1, I have the same dilemma and it would definitely help :)
@@TheBumbelo The C1 is a little more red shifted in this video than in real life due to the tri-laser. I usually do an eye-match using my calibrated monitor during testing, but didn't do that for this clip: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qQ5j7R9nQdc.html
@@TheHookUp I actually think I'll go for X500i, I think the short-throw is a the deal-breaker to me as I have around 100 inches from mount to wall in my bedroom and the quality seem pretty much on-par between the two :)
When the x500i is on its quitest setting , eco , 1080p etc is it as quiet as most other pj's,? It's throw works for me and I only watch movies in 1080p
Thank you for this thorough review, and all the other great reviews you did so far! But after watching all of them, i cant really decide between the Dangbei mars pro (1250€) or the Viewsonic X1-4k at 50€ more. Which projector would you get for a home cinema usecase, or do you have any other even better recommendation for under 1500€, preferably no short throw projector? (Sorry i am kinda new to the whole home cinema topic 😅) Thanks in regard 😀
If you'll be watching mostly 24p content and gaming in a light controlled room you should go with the X1-4K, but be aware that it doesn't have MEMC so if you like motion smoothing you should go with the Dangbei instead.
@@TheHookUp I see, thanks for quick your answer 😀! I think ill go with the dangbei, ive never tried MEMC, but i think its also a bit brighter, and id like to have some dimmed light on if possible. On the other hand, i really like a bit more colorful and contrasty picture, where the X1-4K is better at (From what ive read at least :)). If you have any other recommendation under 1500€ ill be really greatful (I dont care about anything else except a good picture - and no short throw if possible 😅). Anyway, you have helped me a lot on narrowing down my choises, and i really love that you test the accurate values of the projectors by yourself, keep it up 😁!
hey youre my guy ..when do you think youll get youre hands on xgimi horizon max i have a formovie x5 love it but if xgimi is way better ill get that the max
@@TheHookUp Awesome to hear! I'm between the x500i and the TK710Sti. Really looking for your feedback on the TK710Sti. If it's as good as the x500i and just quieter, it'll be enough for me to buy it. Unfortunately, I missed the pre-order 10% discount - but silver lining I can wait for your review!
@TheHookUp let's assume it's still gain 1.0 on a dark Grey screen wall. Do you think the x500i would still show details in dark film areas or will it just become all black while the whites become egg tones because of the missing brightness then? Maybe the brighter models like the viewsonics will have more accurate results then, compared to the reference files you played? I am planning on getting a beamer for the European soccer championship but of course I will opt for a Grey screen wall in my home lounge so I can watch with friends without turning all lights completely out and still enjoy Grey and dark levels... so my question is not just theoretical but straight forward for a real use case in a social proper environment at home. Thanks for considering, HookUp Man 🙂👌
I still don't know what you are talking about unfortunately. Are you saying you have a gray 1.0 gain screen? That's basically impossible and most gray paints will have a gain of 0.8 or less. Why do you keep saying "screen wall" instead of "screen" or "wall"? If you want a projector that can be viewed with the lights on you should opt for a UST with a proper ALR screen.
@TheHookUp oh so there is no 1.0 gain screen, they are 0.8 or less? Thanks for the clarification. I misunderstand your last question about Grey or black screens still are available with 1.0 gain. My question was originally without any gain factor. I don't know about gain factors in the results so I can't consider for now. But I know that a gray or black screen will need more light power in the projector to make a proper white so I am a little worried that the x500i power will be enough to illuminate a Grey screen in a social friendly room. There is a Grey screen about 120 inch available at Amazon here in Germany for 230€. No details about gain or whatever. Just it's very instead of white and therefore the contrast will of course be different from the white screen while the black levels might disappear to be all just plain black/ dark Grey with a weak brightness beamer on that screen. May I ask you why you are using a white screen in the first place? Does that have some advantage that I don't know yet? Thanks for answering, HookUp Man 🙂
White screens are the standard for projectors. When you start using different colors it is impossible to judge color accuracy. When talking about gray screens you can measure their white gain, but they will have slightly different gains for each color resulting in very poor color accuracy.
Unfortunately no such thing as budget ultra bright. Best option to go to ebay and search “large venue projector” and find one from barco, christie, or panasonic with low hours.
Hi, how does something like the X500i stack up against the Hisense C1? I guess similar brightness, better colour due to triple laser but better contrast on the BenQ ? Just wondered which you'd choose for picture quality. Thanks
@@TheHookUp thank you, much appreciated hard to tell due to the red shift and RU-vid compression but presumably the black level on the X500i is a lot better than the C1 in person ?
Which Xbox were you using for the test? I haven't played with too much of the picture settings on the Series X, but I'm curious if it's better processing would change the results.
I'm looking for a 4K gaming projector. How do these hold up against the Optoma UHD55? I wanted to get the UHD38, but I need a shorter throw distance. Like around 11 ft.
Thanks for the great test. Regarding the ufo motion blur test. The ls11000 looks very bad, but it's at 120hz, while others are at 240hz. If you set the others at 120hz, how do they compare to the ls11000 ?
@@TheHookUp thanks. Unfortunately it looks like there is no possibility of 4k 120 with good image in LCD, and dlp 4k120 does not exist. Maybe with jvc nx at 3 times the price and another technology haha
I don't think there's enough interest to warrant that, but here are the cliffs notes: 1) Short throw is preferable for not casting shadows onto your impact screen. 2) Contrast and black floor do not matter since you'll be using them in a room with high ambient light (so you can see the golf ball). 3) Brightness and color do matter. 4) 1080p and WUXGA are good budget options, the 4K resolution upgrade is marginal since impact screens generally have heavy texture that will prevent the 4K clarity. 5) Most people will end up with DLP projectors, but if you want to use a rear mounted swing camera you should opt for a 3LCD option (usually from Epson or Panasonic) instead because your swing camera will show all the rainbows from the DLP. I've used a bunch of projectors in my sim. I currently have a BENQ LK936ST that I bought for two main reasons: 1) It's designed to be extra dust proof and temperature tolerant, which is important since my sim is in my garage. 2) I use a nearly 1:1 aspect ratio, so with a 1080p projector (BENQ 671ST) I was losing a significant amount of resolution to the strange aspect ratio.
Both the x3100i and x500i are RGBB LED projectors, so they are compatible with basically every screen type and unlike laser projectors will never show laser speckle.
The dual pull down screens are these ones from AKIA: amzn.to/4dvZtzQ When tested vs the Nexigo the Nexigo was on the Formovie Fresnel 100" and the X500i was on this 100" fixed frame from Silver Ticket: amzn.to/4bfXSN1
