I love it when a man or woman knows the car that they are into. Dale definitely knows his Fox bodies.

I had a 1979 Cobra 5.0 with 140 hp. I bought a Edelbrock intake manifold and a holly 600, what a difference that made. After the second 4 speed broke I bought a T5 out of a wreck SVO and installed it in my car. The gear ratio was for a 4 cylinder, I could start in 3rd gear but she was fast off the line and I could beat all stock Z/28s and GTs. I also installed headers, a posi rear from a 83 GT and later a bigger cam. People were almost giving those TRX wheels and tires away, every year I needed two new back tires and they were cheap and plentiful. The car was a piece of crap but I learned to be a mechanic and had lots of fun drag racing late at night on the weekends. The Buick Grand Nationals were the toughest cars to beat back in the eighties it was embarrassing to get beat by a six cylinder. Oh the memories. Parker, I love your videos, keep up the good work.

Great video description of the many subtle changes throughout the Fox body era. Dale is a knowledgeable friend of mine. The 84 is actually a 1984.5 Ford deciding to celebrate their 20th Anniversary of the introduction in april 1964 -1/2.

My friend Charles from high school had a 1984 and a 1/2 G.T50 Mustang, and I'll tell you right now. That car went pretty good for a hundred and sixty horse or whatever it was it might have been two hundred and twenty five horsepower but I remember doing a hundred and forty five miles an hour high on cocaine having a blast in that car back in high school

87-89 LX 5.0 really made me love Mustangs. Of course liked the old 60s early 70s too. New Edge Mustang really blew my mind looks wise. So 87-93, 99-04, 67-72 are my favorites.

I remember right around 1988, there was an 85. SV04 cylinder Turbo Mustang and a 5 l Mustang. Same here and they dragged raced and they raced up the mountain and the 4 cylinder, one in the drag race. And it really stamped it in the mountain race from the bottom to the top. Of the mountain. It was like a lot lot faster. Then the GT V8 Mustang.

The 1979 5.0L/302 CID engine hp was not rated @ 175 hp...that was not until 1983 The V6 engine in 1979 was indeed 2.8L/170 CID...the 3.8L/232 CID engine was in 1983-86 The 3.3L/200 CID engine was available mid 1979 through 1982 Vinyl roof was available on all 79-82 coupes Engine options between 1979 and 1980 was slightly different (in 1980: no v6 or 5.0L, new 4.2L). The 4.2L/255 engine was new for 1980, and used 1981-82. "Slapper bars" were on all 82 GTs, not just with 'TR Performance Suspension' package. The GT came with "Handling Suspension" package, which included those slapper bars. The TR package was a revised Handling Suspension package ... it had different size front and rear bars and bushings, different struts and shocks, and of course unique metric wheels and Michelin TRX tires. Turbo 2.3L engine was available in ALL Mustangs in 1979-82 (Canada only in 1981-82, even in the GT!), then only in Turbo GT (1983-84) and SVO (1984-86) First year for 'Quadra-Shock Rear Suspension' was actually mid 1983, but only on the Thunderbird Turbo Coupe got that that year. Mustang got that in mid 1984. (It replaced the "slapper bars".) There were 439 1985.5 SVOs. 'Sport' seats in 1983+ were made by Lear Siegler. The buck tag is on all Fox Mustangs but the location depends on year and where the car was made. The tags they were looking at is in that location for 1979-87 Dearborn-built units. Early 1979 Dearborn and 1988+ were down lower, actually behind the headlamp on the driver side. San Jose-built units (1979-81) were down lower also and in mid 1980-ish the tag moved to the passenger side, still behind the headlamp. Fuel-injection for 5.0L was first in 1984, if you ordered an automatic transmission. Looked like a carb sitting on top of the engine but it had two fuel injectors there. Same for 1985. Cars & Concepts did the 'factory' T-roof order installation. They also did installs, that were not a 'factory' order, for local dealers or owners. C&C also had a network of roof installers across U.S. and Canada that used C&C kits to install the T-roof.

IVE ALWAYS THOUGHT ALL THE MANUFACTURER/OEM LITTLE DIFFERENCES AND OPTIONS WERE SO COOL !! FROM THE 60'S ONWARD. CARS DEFINITELY DONT HAVE ALL THE DIFFERENT ENGINE OPTIONS LIKE THEY USED TO THANKS TO CARB/EPA CERTIFICATIONS ETC BUT SURE WOULD BE COOL TO HAVE MORE THAN 1 OR 2 ENGINE OPTIONS ETC.

The 255ci motor was introduced into Mustangs in 1980, not 1981, and it was 118 hp, not 120. It was built for economy, getting 27mpg which would be good for a V8 today and was awesome back in 1980 when Ford was trying to meet CAFE standards, and Ford never got proper credit for this feat. If you're looking for a performer, then OK, this motor is a dog, but there are mods that can be done to up its performance. A few magazines at the time (C&D, Hot Rod) made projects out of this motor, able to get around 160 hp out of them by changing out cam, lifters, carburetor, intake and exhaust manifolds, as you would any motor when looking to increase performance. True, it would be wiser to just start off with a better motor like a 302, but the 255 has its merits, and is relevant today given the current trend for fuel efficiency and good mpg.
