This was so incredibly informative and interesting to me. I do love the Spanish traditional Rioja, but have also tried the French style and appreciate it also. Hi Thomas, look out for cuvees that are aged in French oak for 12 to 18 months in French oak, single vineyards that sort of stuff. As I said in the video, it's not a clear line between the two style but more of a gradient, but shorter oak treatment and French oak are markers of the more "French" approach as described here if we can call it that :) Hope this helps
As an American, I used to think that the Spanish used American oak because they liked us more than the French. And then I learned that it’s because they used American oak because of their colonies in the Americas and it was a way to celebrate their global presence
