Does this still work? I have my gmail account linked with my 365 account and cannot seem to get the set-up right..this video is quite old now so just wondering if there are any updates on this?
Most painfully slow explanation and least useful integration execution. Don't waste your time on a 20+ min video that could have been less than 5 mins.
Do I need the pro version of outlook for this to work? I have tried with multiple email addresses to get this to work. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Hi. Could I use this from my work e-mail as well? I am struggling with the permanent Out of Office. Or do you have to make a separate e-mail account? (I look a lot of things up and save them in OneNote, in the evening I am watching videos and jotting notes down on my ReMarkable. I want those combined in my OneNote)
Hi Evy, I’m protyping something using Power Automate that integrates with OneNote and is an alternative to my out of office method. Will keep you posted.
Hi Chris Any reason you used Out of Office vs. setting up a rule? I've tried with a rule and it doesn't seem to send the email - is that why you use the out of office rule ? Thanks Neil
Hi Neil, Re: is that why you use the OOO rule? Yes It needs to be setup as out of office (OOO) for the rule to run ON Microsoft exchange server in the cloud. If you don’t setup OOO you need to setup the rule to run on your Outlook program (software on your PC) which is a different method. I don’t always have my Outlook software running, therefore the auto forward rule will not work. With OOO set to on the auto forward rule will always run. Chris
@@MaverickNextGen You can create autoforward rules from outlook.com, no need to muck with server vs. client hacks. Settings > View All Settings > Mail > Rules > Add New Rule. Great stuff otherwise!
@JB2k1 Thanks for the +ve feedback! (I'm new at this RU-vid stuff) You've nailed the caveat on the head "Searchable Notes" is the nirvana and something that I'm keen on exploring. At the moment I'm working within the constraints of what RM has to offer which isn't a lot in terms of searching - in the tutorial I mention "keywords categorisation" which I use to bolster search, I have close to 100 notebooks which would be a minefield to search normally. I am looking at knowledge apps, integrations and OCR APIs I so you can "Search" anything including hand writing. RMs text recognition does not cut the mustard so I'm looking at platforms that are leading edge in this space. Will keep up the good work!
Hi Andrey, you have an interesting scenario here. I'm working on a full blown OneNote integration which actually syncs the files on your rM2 using custom code. Can you describe what you mean by "MS office integration"?
I mean Office 365. Beside OneNote, which is a must have, I'd like to use synced Calendar, Read and respond to Outlook e-mails, use Microsoft Teams. It is all possible with Android... so ideally the device could do that... so you add handwriting experience on top. I remember my Yota phone 2. Even with e-ink screen it was a good experience.
Question: Now that Remarkable is releasing the Remarkable Pro, do you/will you create an update to How to Integrate the Remarkable Pro with OneNote? I am moving from Apple Notes to OneNote to unitize PARA info organization method and want to know if I can integrate the Remarkable Pro I want to get with OneNote that I've very recently discovered I NEED to use!
Hi, great question, if I ever do get the Remarkable Pro I will. At the moment I’m still using my rM2 and don’t feel i need the extra goodness just yet. Having said that if my rM2 died on me which is possible then i will buy the rM Pro!
maybe I'm missing something but can't you just forward the note from remarkable directly to the onenote email address? why do you need to set up all the rules in outlook?
Hi Justin, I’m assuming you are wondering why it’s necessary to setup the Outlook client and the rules and not straight to xyz@outlook.com for example. If you sent it straight to your xyz@outlook.com email it would never get into your OneNote journal and it would end up in your email inbox only (no forwarding rule). The key to it all is the fact that the rule forwards the remarkable email received in your xyz@outlook.com inbox to me@onenote.com. Remember that in the video you mapped this email address in the OneNote website configuration page. Hope this makes sense.
Hi @Alexis RS, there is a send to email button on the menu. You can choose to send to an email and attach either PDF, PNG (image) or SVG (image) file. Cheers
Thanks @Phil White - in theory YES it should be able to search text. Having used it for OneNote with the rM2 for a while now here are my findings. Sadly my handwriting is really messy so when I send to OneNote as a png and try to search for text, I get NOTHING and the OCR struggles :( . Having said that if I tried really hard and kept my hand writing very neat the OCR on the png works but is still not 100%, more like 75% text recognition. The only time where it has worked well was when I used individual capital letters. In OneNote you can search for text which are png images and I specifically searched for a word which I knew was in an rM2 document png - it found it and highlighted it in the image itself! Note that I tried extra hard to be legible in this case. The long and short of it is - if you have very neat hand writing that is OCR friendly you are going to reap the rewards of OneNote OCR respect for full-text search/specific words. Otherwise the convert to text functionality on the rM2 itself has been much more successful in recognising my handwriting. Good luck!
@@MaverickNextGen that's very helpful. I'm limping along with an old MS Surface for now but will continue to consider the Supernote A5x and Remarkable 1 and 2. I appreciate your insights. Have you used the Supernote products?
@Phil White, before the rM2 I used my Surface Pro 3 hence OneNote. I haven’t used the Supernote yet and it was either this or the rM2, I’m a sucker for aesthetics. Let me know what you decide.
@@MaverickNextGen that's good to know. I just bought a Lamy stylus and battery cover for my ancient Surface Pro 2 and will try to keep that limping along for a while to save money. If it craps out, then I'll decide between a newer Surface, the RM series, and the Supernote. I appreciate your continued help.
Hi Asad, the short answer is yes. At the time I produced this video there was no concept of a subscription plans as they only introduced subscriptions at the end of last year. Using the first method I showed you using the mobile app you can get away with signing up to “Connect Lite” as you make use of unlimited cloud. The second method I showed you requires you to invest in the full “Connect” subscription because of the need to send emails from your reMarkable device which you pay a premium for in this plan. Hope this helps, do you have a rM2 yet?
Hi @Gabriel Boho, I do not have the rM1 however I can only imagine that if the software/User Interface is the same and the mobile app then I don’t see why it shouldn’t work. Have a go a tell me if you have any joy, good luck.
Too long. Too boring. Please stick to the point. The whole video can be summed up in 2 minutes! I can't even focus on this video no matter how many times I tried to pick it up again and again.
Hello! Great tutorial. In terms of automation, I've been through these steps before. They are quite good. And you are correct, it's well done, globally. The caveat is still the lack of searchable notes (even once in OneNote). I keep asking RM dev team to work on it. I've never done a video on RU-vid, but if I find a reliable way I will. Keep up the good work!
@@MaverickNextGen thanks - got a hands on experience of Remarkable 2 of my friend. Really a paper 📝 like experience. The only problem is of synch with one note. Can I copy and save the remarkable file stored in Dropbox /cloud to one note ? What format does the remarkable use to save files in cloud ? Thanks
Thanks for the awesome tips. If you are open to feedback, I have a few points. If not, then ignore. Your video has a good amount of dead time and quite a bit of repetition. Regardless, you are good at this and thank you for making the content.
Hi Chris, very nice video and very helpful. Is there any way we can perhaps do automatic update of any file we change in RM? meaning, when we add some notes to a RM file, can this file be automatically uploaded on OneNote too?
Thanks Isaac for +ve feedback and yes this is something on my backlog, essentially you want your RM to trigger the automatic upload process to OneNote which is the nirvana. I'll assume that you are not a computer programmer 🙂. I've been doing some research and the information/hooks are are available to achieve what you are asking only if you can create an application that would be installed on the RM itself or a server side application that connects to your RM, download your files and syncs with OneNote. As a programmer, I would immediately think of reverse engineering the low level code to understand how reMarkable makes the calls to the Cloud - use to write a computer program to do what I wanted (this is what people have done in the reMarkable hacking community, see remarkablewiki.com/start if interested). Now a days as a Technical Architect my thinking is much higher up the technical stack about how best to reuse services easily - i.e. plug and play between systems without having to write low level code (in this case plug RM to the OneNote cloud), this is achieved specifically by using open APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that exposes access to the RM's documents. To cut a long story short I've scanned the reMarkable wiki, and at present there is no easy way for the average consumer to sync their RM with OneNote easily. But wait, I found this application which I'm thinking of testing out www.einkpads.com/products/ep-binder "Cloud Connect" which integrates with OneDrive. And guess what your OneNote file sits on OneDrive so if I can figure out the OneDrive OneNote file implementation, hey presto 😀. Chris
@@MaverickNextGen thank you Chris. It's so evident I am no techie. I will be looking forward to your update. It will surely make me start using RM more effectively too.
