The older you get, the more comfortable you want to be. I'm at that age where I only take TROPHY deer, unless the freezer is empty. I'm not a "brown, it's down" guy. I've been hunting for over 40 years, and I actually want to build a blind that I can sleep in - comfortably. I don't need electricity, but I damn-sure do need warmth.

Im a carpenter and at my old house I decided to build a 12'x16' "tree house" at my old house that doubled at a hunting blind. It was on 6x6 posts and sono tubes about 12' in the air. Cedar on the walls and ceiling. Laminate floor. Electric with a mini split unit, couch, TV, frig etc. It had it all. I took a lot of big bucks out there watching TV while hunting. It was a really great time. I could camp out there all day

If it was my blind seeing you already have a leaching field for sink I'd run some five gallon buckets on ground in lower section that can be changed or sink a 55 gallon drum in ground for sewer and install a camper flush toilet inside. I would also lay down some sort of outdoor carpet that can be easily removed to change or rinse out to dampen noise from walking around and stop any draft issue. Plus I'd run a couple propane tanks like the bigger camper size in lower section and run up what ever gas tubing inside for heat and cooking.. But that's what I'd do.

Kevin,I am very impressed with your blind,,I build a blind that the door is on the floor but we'll supported when you close it,but I have electricity as well but I painted my inside windows Black so I can turn light on when it's still dark and that way it doesn't spook game. While I can understand this is not the hunting style for everyone, no one can take away from your hard work and dedication you put into creating your own ideal set up that you and your family can enjoy and get use of for many years to come. The way you handle the negative comments shows that you don't care what other people think, and you known what you have created is something to be proud of. I came to RU-vid to get ideas for building own blind when I came across your video. For me, it's not practical to add all the luxuries you have here, but I most certainly have been inspired with what you have done. I had the same idea of the atv storage below, so it was nice to see that incorporated in your design. Keep up the good work and best of luck hunting this season.

Nice job! Don't let the punks get to you. I've spent 30+ years out stalk hunting just like they are bragging about. I guess they think the pains of old age should keep me at the house. I still stalk hunt. I have ladder stands and portable blinds. But sometimes old injuries keep me from enjoying the challenges of hunting in extreme cold weather and rain. It's times like that I'm glad to have a small cabin that I can hunt from. Be proud of what you have, and enjoy every moment. I'm sure you've paid your dues. And, that's a great way to pass the torch, making memories! If anyone wants to say I'm not a hunter, I've spent 25 years practicing and teaching survival. This includes primitive hunting/trapping. Take all of your high dollar gear back to Bass Pro for a refund, go make a bow, then when ya get a deer have me over for dinner. Then we can talk! To all the rest... Do what ya want, do it your way, and enjoy the rewards! God bless!

In the middle of building one about like this right now . I started with a ladder that goes up about 15 feet and my floor starts at 12' . I thought it would be ok but ended up doing stairs myself. My structure is close to an 8x8 on utility poles with a small porch that the stairs lead to. I've been waiting many years to build it and glad I am now. Love yours and appreciate the video. You have a nice set up.

to all the critics, where in the hell does it say that you have to suffer when you hunt deer? Maybe when all you knuckleheads get a little older and wiser you'll be hunting out of something like this too. If I owned a piece of hunting property that I was able to build something, I doubt it would be this elaborate, but it definitely would have heat and a comfortable chair, and I'd be in it all day. Try doing that when it's 0 out in a tree stand 20' up

Fellow Wisconsin resident here.... In my opinion, it depends... I want to take kids hunting when they are a little bigger and am thinking of building something like this so I can introduce them to hunting. But that being said, nothing beats sitting out on a ladder stand or in a ground blind and hearing and seeing everything nature has for you.
@ravenfeather7087
@ravenfeather7087 7 лет назад
Northwoods Acres - Do them a real favor. Take them out in the woods and talk to them quietly about deer hunting and it's history in Wisconsin. Talk to them about deer behavior. Talk to them about deer habitat. But most importantly let them get cold and bored to the point where they listen to every sound and smell every scent. Let them learn just how cold cold is for a mammal in the winter and teach them how miraculous it is that a deer survives at all without a wall to hide behind. And when they get too cold, build them a little fire with dry pine and toast a sandwich over it. My favorite is summer sausage, cheese and mayo - that sooty sandwich will be something else that gives them memories that will last for the rest of their lives.
@NorthwoodsAcres
@NorthwoodsAcres 6 лет назад
I am not discounting sitting outside... I love it and have done it my whole hunting life. But both types of hunting are real hunting. There are times when it would be nice to focus on shooting skills, spotting skills, and all the things that happen after you make the shot. I often hunt in 10 degrees below zero Fahrenheit weather with a wind chill of -20 or more. I sit out, literally all day in the cold. Heck, we even camp in zero degree weather. So I appreciate you demonstrating your man skills by commenting what a real hunter apparently is, but there is so much more to hunting than showing how manly you are by letting your kids get frost bite. Sitting and waiting is literally the coldest part of hunting, and I am not sure where you come from, but in some parts of the country, it does actually get dangerously cold. When I am training a kid in hunting, I want them to focus on certain areas and not have their attention drawn away by the pain of intense cold. If I bring a 10 year old out and it is -10 or -20 degrees, how long do I really get to sit with them? We'd be heading in within the hour. If I can control one factor (blocking the wind), I can bring them out with me, show them how I watch and listen for animals, show them how I fire my gun or bow, etc. Then, when it is time to retrieve the animal, they can come out with me and stay warm because they are working hard at that point. My kids are not even old enough to hunt yet, but they are not wimps and they possess many skills I wish other hunters had. They help with the butchering, they regularly spend vast amounts of time in the cold, in the woods. They've run into bears at night while taking care of our animals. They often point out animal tracks, scat and trails to me that they have found and they identify the type of animal. To say that they cannot be "real hunters" unless they are unprotected from the wind is kind of missing the point: that hunting is something bigger than where you shoot from.

I made one with the bottom 8 ft being stone walls (nice flat blue stone helped from the property). Then I put beams overhanging the base by 2 ft with 12x12 beams for a second story of 10x10. Then I built a timber frame on it and covered it with tin. Made a door for the bottom to park the ATV in and a hatch in the base. one winter I was hunting muzzleloader in PA with the temps in the minus 20's and stayed in there with the small wood stove I put in it. The third day that I was up there I got a doe just before dark and by the time I was done cleaning her out, she was frozen solid with ice crystals in the air. I call it my mini cabin after that.

Yes sir , know where you are coming from. In my prime walk the woods rain snow cold, but we all get old as some of the young hunters will see. My blind is very much like yours solar and elect. Cold is now a factory in hunting. Plus just wildlife watching is great time in the blind. I think most of the put-downs is from a lack of the ability for them to even be able to construct such a nice deer blind or the lack of a place to put a blind. But you do what you can as a hunter and more power to the ones that can get out and walk or set in tree blinds, but a lack of understanding of older hunters is not a reason to complain, just show what you are really are.. So thanks Kevin for the updates and keeping on with your dreams and GOOD Hunting and thanks for teaching grandkids about wildlife. AMEN brother.

All this bull about that's not hunting. To each his own! What is hunting to one person doesn't have to be the same for another. Hunting is what you make it. It's a man's or woman's free time & it should be enjoyed however they want to enjoy it. Hunting can be 35 feet up a tree in a climbing stand or it can be the super cool hunt house in this video & everything in between. Don't be a hater, nobody is judging your type of hunting, so don't judge theirs. Just chill & enjoy whatever you call hunting. And good luck to you all in this year's deer season!

I drive around in my truck and shoot crows, coyotes, rabbits, and what-not. I put the heat on when it's cold and the air conditioning when it's hot. I drive into town for a cuppa coffee when I'm thirsty. When I need to take a leak, the whole outdoors is my toilet. It all works out pretty good.

Consider installing a Screech Owl nest box on the South side of your blind. Ticks have a multistage two year life cycle and the second stage is typically rodents or birds. Forest mice act as a disease reservoir and host for ticks. There are not enough old trees with hollow cavities suitable for nesting.

My friend has one just like this at the back of his soy/corn field he’s got a wood stove in it for heat even has a tv out there he drives the four wheeler out the night before parks it under just like this one gets coffee and everything ready and wakes up and harvests the meat while still in his long johns he even has pics of him with his kills still in his pjs and just like you he has camp outs with his kids in the spring and summer it’s used more than just for hunting. when hunting meat for the freezer it’s well worth it to be as comfortable as possible great set up!!

Used to say the same kind of things on my younger days. Many years ago my dad got so sick and almost died as a result from getting ammonia and the flu from being outside deer hunting in all cold type of temperatures etc..., is when he quit hunting. If he had a heated blind this probably would of not happened to him.Ever since I built a heated blind as good as this one, weeks later I never not got the flu, or sick etc.... after hunting season like I use to many times. And 1 of my aunts is a retired nurse. She said a few weeks after deer hunting season is when she would see a major rise of hunter's coming down with the flu etc.... But with me I can handle any type of outside weather as long as if I am moving around.

Excellent job Kevin ! Mine is as good as yours, but not as big. But do admit you do have me beat on the solar electrical and also which I also do not have an sink inside. On mine the stair case is not steep like yours but my stair case would be the same as a house. Our blinds is better then most out there. Mine is a 6 sided hex, with an 3ft x 3ft extension box, on the bottom of it so I can stretch my legs out and sleep inside of it incase the hotels are filled up during hunting season and I cannot get a room, which happens from time to time, and mine is insulated like a house like yours, painted drywall inside, storage area's in the floor, so I can store pots and pans and food and pop soda or Gatorade while hunting, and store other things like paper towel, had sanitizer, toiler paper etc.... and a stone shelf for cooking and put my portable heater under it. In a short time I can easily get mine heated to 80 degrees to 100 degrees easily, on any zero degree below day. . And mine is 6ft tall of the ground so incase the farmer does not have the corn down, at least I will be able to see on what is going on the other side of the farm fields. On mine I am be able to see out of my windows from sitting down or standing up,(which most of these blinds you cannot stand up and look out of the window the same time).Then on my bottom I am going to make that into an out house since I cannot or probably not be able to fit a 4 wheeler in the bottom of it. And I also in the process of building another one now, but taller. The one building now will be 12ft to 19ft of the ground . The extra deer horns I got I am going to use those to hang the pots and pans like your doing. I've been using one deer horn as a coat hanger just to hang up my coat when I get inside of it.I like your idea of the curtain rods, with home made sticks . I may do that on both of these blinds.

Awsome huntn blind! To all the wanna be Rambo's hating on his methods, where in the book of hunting does it say you can't be comfortable while hunting? Some would say hunting with a rifle or compound bow isnt hunting, using commercially bought equipment to give you an edge is cheating etc... to each his or her own. Every hunt doesn't have to be a lesson in survival. Can't wait for next deer season to try this!!! I'm gettn mine built this off season. More power to ya bro, well done!!!

Thank you for this awesome video. It has given me plenty of ideas. I am in the process of building a 6x8 box blind for a small family hunting lot. Originally I just wanted something to keep me dry and out of the elements but now I'm considering putting a small solar electrical system and a small propane heater for the really cold days. I doubt I'll go as far as running water but a corner toilet isn't a bad idea :)

No. I do hunt with an arrow though...sort of a sharpened stick. Also hunt deer/elk with an iron sighted handgun. On my FEET...WALKING. Not sitting in my living room, waiting for a deer to happen by. I just think stands like that are sad. HOW can a guy get any satisfaction about taking an animal that way?
