Great video! I have owned a manual E92 M3 non EDC for nearly 8 years now and I have to say this is easily one of the best videos I have seen. Informative and entertaining! Great job!
Great review! Just got mine week ago. After 3 years with EV (a fast one) keep asking myself why havent make this decision earlier? No regrets. Fantastic car! They are getting more expensive every day, so probably the last chance to jump in for relatively low price.
Great video. Similar spec to my car which is a manual '08 E92 M3 with EDC but my interior is back rather than red. Love the noise and the handling is fun and impressive for something weighing over 1600kg but agree the brakes are the weak link.
You really need the EDC if your going to buy one. Its crazy someone specd individual audio and not edc. Ive got individual are your right its extremely rare. It just shows how important EDC is by how it effects the value
@jamescrawshaw71 couldn't disagree more. Just about every car reviewer says edc is essential too. EDC effects the price by up to £5k so it just shows what the general consensus is. That's why thr competition came with it standard
@@DaleSteel I probably wouldn’t say it adds 5k to the price that’s a bit too much. It’s not about what most car reviewers say it’s about what you personally feel when driving the car. From my experience I wouldn’t ever use the EDC in the hardest setting as it is completely useless on most UK roads. To stiff and unsettles the dynamics of the car which in turn makes it harder to drive. Most of the time I would drive in the middle setting which is almost identical to the damping on non EDC cars. Then when it’s in soft it’s too soft and makes the car feel more towards a normal 3 series and a bit flat for a performance car like the M3, it’s takes away the character. So when you look at it that way it almost seems pointless to have it and certainly not essential. Don’t always listen to what reviews say, you should always buy and decide on what you feel when driving the car 👍
M3 e92 weighs 1580 kgs 😉, good review anyway. Although I think the point about cold abuse wearing out rod bearings is overplayed, and by that I mean, do we really think that all M3 owners abuse it from cold? Especially nowa days with the rod bearings being a known problem, I suspect cold abuse is pretty rare! And theirs those who have treated nicely from day one and then later on had the bearings changed still found them excessively worn! It was generally thought it was predominantly down to inadequate bearing clearances, but it's looking like that the main wear factor could actually be some sort of chemical corrosion. Anyway, I've changed the bearings on my M3, so I'm enjoying it!😁Once it's warmed up! Btw, it shouldn't take long to warm up (the benefit of an inefficient engine! lol), perhaps that cars thermostat is on it's way out?
Some interesting points there, thanks for sharing 👍 The thermostat is fine on this one though, I’ve had a few and they all take a bit of time to warm up.
@@jamescrawshaw71Curious , compared to my 330d, my M3 is really quick to warm up. Oh, I should've said earlier that the manual is 1580 kgs, the dct is 1600
@@jamescrawshaw71 Btw, totally agree about EDC! ~£500 a shock! F*** that! That's why mine doesn't have it 😉 Can't say I agree with you about the tyres, the PS4S has much better grip in the wet than the PSS, the M3 is never 'over-griped' in the wet! lol Great to see you enjoy the M3 anyway 😁, I'll be enjoying mine at Cadwell Park on Monday!😁 PS Mine's a manual too!
@@Assimilator1 Haha yeah to be fair no M3 has ever had enough grip in the wet!! In the dry though, too much grip with the 4s I think, takes away it's "excitement a bit". PS4S is perfect for the F80 range as they have the torque to break traction and you can really use the tyre, V8 struggles a bit! Cadwell sounds fun! Hope you have a good time, I'm sure you will with a manual M3 😁
NiCe!!! Awesome! I have an E36 M3 bought it brand spankin new 25 yrs ago and that 3.2L in-line 6 bEaSt still kicks ass! No modifications. Thank God no accidents! Pristine maintenance with Red Line synthetic oil since it’s first year. Odometer shows about 112K+ miles. CoLLeCtOR worthy! If I was to sell it how much do you think its value would be in today’s market? Cheers!
No way! Wow I’d love to see that car one day, where abouts are you based!? Amazing that you’ve owned it from new! I wouldn’t know how much it would be worth but given that it’s a one owner car it’s likely to be worth a fair bit more than the others up for sale. It may fall into the category of “it’s worth what someone is willing to pay”! James.
You've kept it this long you may as well keep it forever! But if you are selling it have a go at an auction site. A 1 owner car is a rare thing especially of that age.
Awesome car and I'm sure in Europe this is currently the go-to cool fast car for cheap. It's the Corvette here in the US... really hard to beat the value. Even after covid we're seeing C5 Z06 for low 20's in great condition.
Still a great car. But at this age, some in depth maintenance needs to be done. For example, rod bearing, rear bushings. Not impossible to do DIY, but the are big jobs. Again just an example.
I bought a e92 m3 dct had it for 2 years gearbox kept leaking nothing but stress sold it got a e90 m3 manual nothing bloody love it has 102k on it had all the preventive maintenance done runs like it’s on 30k.
Great video! Will probably buy one of these next year or so, been my dream car since I was a teenager! If you’re local to Oxford do you want to review my manual e92 325i?
Mine is the 3rd dct to be made and the first registered in the U.K. so yea it’s old. I’ve spent now about £6000 on maintenance underneath. Next on the todo list is the rear subframe and suspension. It’s not cheap so who buys one make sure you look after it
@@jamescrawshaw71 forums theres guys than can tell you everything. I also found the Orginal guy who bought my m3. It’s one of the most heavily specked m3s. Controversial also that I have an e92 and it has a sun roof. Only 5 ever made in the U.K. of which mine and one more are currently still on the road.
Great video. Just bought e92 m3 this week with DCT and EDC. Take your points but actually like both with and without edc and same for manual. Different driving experiences but both fun in different ways. Can’t really go wrong with platform except on maintenance of course. I had a manual 330ise e90 years ago which was a fantastic engine and gearbox combo and really missed it for more than 14 years since owned it. Gets into your dna owning a rear drive beemer with power
Enjoyed that. Picked up a e92 m3 DCT a few weeks ago. Could have gone for one of the many 600bhp+ turbo cars out there but the e92 just makes me smile every time I drive it. Also makes me skint everytime I drive it but meh 😅
The greatest of them all. The last true M car to feature a bespoke motorsport derived, high revving, ITB equipped N/A motor! They've aged extremely well and look stunning in white! Although the manual is cool the, I prefer the DCT. The manual has extremely long gearing which I didn't enjoy all that much!
After driving a DCT recently I’d have to agree that the manual needs slightly shorter gearing. I’m thinking a closer ratio final drive would be awesome.
Currently looking for one of these I’m in a sapphire black 335d with a red interior, sunroof and HK, obviously the sunroof will be sacrificed for the Carbon roof but for the life of me I can’t find an E92 M3 with Harman Kardon speakers or even in a similar spec to what I have. It’s doing my head in and I’m not going for an M4, I need that V8.
@@jamescrawshaw71 it’s killing me buddy I really don’t want that 3 litre fart can but the liveability I expect is far better. Even considering an M6 - but then again not heard amazing things about the S63 in those.
Currently got an e55 amg, looking for something newer and slightly less maintenance (just don’t have the time anymore). Reckon I’d benefit from one of these or still too much maintenance ?
@@jamescrawshaw71 going to view a 38k mile one this weekend. Hopefully everything mechanically sound, if so then only real costs should be rod bearings when I get closer to 60k
Loved my e92 m3 I sold it for a 4.2 gated manual audi r8 for actually only slightly more 30k and it was incredible. I currently have a c63 amg estate as a perfect family car but im looking at getting another toy its either an e92 m3, an r8 or a v8 vantage I think. There is also the 3rd option of just get a manual e90 and maby thats a one car does everything?
Thanks for sharing mate, R8 Gated has got to be one of my favourite cars for the road, did you prefer it to the E92 M3? I'd love to drive one, especially the V10 as that's one of my favourite sounding engines! E90 could be a wicked does everything car, I reviewed one a few weeks ago and it was great, I didn't notice much difference compared to a E92! Expensive though!
@@jamescrawshaw71 the r8 was incredible fun, it felt far more special to be in than the m3 even when just driving slow and the handling was another step up. I would say though the m3 was more fun to drive on the road when you were on it as you could get it to slide and step out under throttle whereas the r8 really needed to be on the track to try and induce such behaviour!
@@FIN4LBO55 sounds amazing, totally get what you mean about being more special when driving slowly. The m3’s can feel very plain unless you have a bit of an exhaust on it 😉 I guess the 4wd from the Audi removes that liveliness feeling you get from M3’s! As you said, they’re so easy to get the back end out it’s hard to find a car more fun to drive on the road without having to push it to crazy limits! Hopefully one day I’ll get one or get a drive in one 🙌
What a video 👏🏼👏🏼 I’ve watched almost every video on these cars and the amount of misinformation is unbelievable. This one is as close as it gets. Absolutely correct about the RB issue. So annoying when you see people looking to buy one and want “RB must be done or price factored in” 🤷🏼♂️😂😂 I daily my e92 and have for over 5yrs. Yes they are expensive to run and maintain, but they reward you. Came close to selling it a few times but I can’t honestly find anything that’s going to replace it. Such a special car. 🧐👌🏻
@@raivis923just the normal stuff in car maintenance but they need to be kept on top off. Tax- £730 Fuel - 🫣🫣 Tyres- £1000 Oil changes 9L required RB - £2000 TA - £1500 Coils/ plugs can go.
Great review, but strongly dissagree about edc. It is a must have for me. I lowered with eibach and do admit that made sport + crashy but so solid on the road. Manual is must to fully enjoy these cars. Mine has test pipes and 1.75 mod with velocity tune. You are welcome to come review mine anytime.
Thanks for the comments! Yeah I’m sure for some EDC is a must have. Totally agree about manual though, I drove a DCT the other day and yes it was great but something just felt missing, made the car feel a bit normal when driving slow. Thanks for the offer to drive yours, I’ll be in touch if that’s something I’m going to start doing on the channel. Cheers 👍
