Anything I missed will go here: - Lots of additional tips are text prompts in the video - Mactusk takes 2.5 days to respawn (After this timer he has to be unloaded for him to respawn) - Entering caves to cancel hound waves no longer works since March 2022 QOL Update. - Ancient Guardian can no longer be cheesed but his fight can be done with 0 damage with no speed bonus.
@@w0lfrunn I think I'll just start doing that cuz it's a bit exhausting and I just wanna chill and survive. I've never been through summer and wanna try. but walking about is kinda exhausting when I die and have to start over. thank you for the tip
@@ggundercover3681 you can not only roll back days if you had a bad day but you can also put the game on endless so you can respawn at the portal you spawned on :)
I've been playing since 2012 or so. Caves, spoilage, and insanity were not implemented yet when I started, and the only bosses were treeguards and spider queens. I STILL learn new things from videos like this.
Intermediate guide?! If I had a base like that by summer 1, with bee queen killed, D-fly, ruins rushed, lunar island found and pillaged, klaus, deerclopse, eye of terror… It’s just so flawless and an amazingly chill account of time management and skill 👍
aside from the base placements (due to console limitations), I'd argue that this is a perfectly fine intermediate guide. Jakey really did go over all the basics in his beginner guide, so to anyone struggling with the jump in efficiency from this video, just take your time -- nothing needs to be done as quickly as Jake does, but they are great things to know and learn for future seaons. Goals
It’s just amazing the actual depth behind this game. Not your average survival game where you just craft, fight, eat, repeat, the seasonal/day and night cycle clock makes agendas more timely and rewarding… it’s an interesting take
As a player who has not been playing for too long, two years I'd say. I have only done this as Wanda and couldn't manage with Wilson. I was doing a willow run and had a hard time kill dfly which is normally really easy.while my schedule in game is fine base location, kill EoT, Kill Dfly, Ruins/guardian, winter prep (thermal stone + beefalo hat) walking cane (if no lazy explorer) Klaus, deerclops, moonstone event, lunar island/first altar, moose/goose, archives, start taming beefalo, collect bee mines, use astral detector to get 2nd altar, go and kill antlion, then i start slowing down usually but ignoring that YAMMERING I just did, the point is I played WANDA for that, who has high damage and can teleport around the map. So, to think he did this as Wilson, with standard damage and movement, is simply mind boggling with how much I struggle to do what I just said, as Wanda, and he's just doing it as Wilson probably half asleep! I just have no further words to describe how impressive it truly is to watch these videos. 😮
i love how the guides went from beginner guide of not fighting any bosses to intermediate guide of rushing the ruins to advanced guide of killing every boss in the game
I'm horribly disorganized so these base building tips for structure/chest placement are an absolute godsend for me. As always great video and looking forward to the expert guide although I may not be ready for it lol.
This is the exact video I've been wanting someone to make, a guide not so advanced but not too beginner either. Will be watching this all the way through. Cheers!
I want guides on everything. Best uses for different items, hardmodes, base builds, Idec. These hour long vids are getting me through college man. If I could play twitch on my tv I’d def be a regular. 😭💓
Fun tip: After planting kelp, use a boat to push all the kelp into a corner so you can just hold space bar and harvest without moving Makes it a lot more convenient to harvest if you have a lot of kelp planted, like 20-40 or smth
I usually don't plant twigs and grass tufts on my first year base, because I'm usually on the run all the time and hardly stay there until I plan on starting to megabase, so I tend to gather the resources I need on the fly. Also, on your next guide, could you cover early Beefalo taming? It's a really fun and underrated strategy for the early game, that I feel not enough people give credit to.
I do it that way too but I always overfill my inventory with resources I don’t even need yet because I’m worried about having to waste time going back to gather them 😓
Planting them at base saves you more time overall, you can ignore them while out and about doing things that need to be done n then when you’re at base cooking or something you can pick your twigs and grass. Also unless you are soeedrunning you don’t need beefalo till you’re doing shadow pieces and taming them is hassle, especially early on when there’s better things to do. I mean to each their own but I think beefalo are perfectly rated, nobody really uses them.
I am between beginner and intermediate so I am flipping between those videos as a guide while I play. I just got to winter for one of my first times solo! I'm playing as WX-78, and I killed some clockworks already. Quite a few knights with a rook, then some knights by fighting them myself, and I even killed one rook! Report: I got killed by DC 3 times. I had two life-giving amulets. I rolled back the world cuz I'm a little cheater. Report 2: I paused the game to use the bathroom and when I came back I had died by freezing and the world had reset
I love these videos. They are the most useful guides. Your videos are the only long DS/DST videos that I can watch on the own. I’ve watched the previous ones so many times
Hey Jakey, love your videos! Was wondering if you were gonna release an "Advance Survival Guide" which includes how to find/summon every single boss in DST . As well as maybe including a Mega Base? Love the content so far though and glad you're keeping them coming! Love and support from Malaysia :)
You should make some shorts out of this video. Tips like how to build the crockpot setup or the dragonfly wall would be really useful to jump to in a simple minute video.
3:52 I would highly discourage hammering pig houses at pig king unless you're speedrunning, which you don't expect from an intermediate player. While the quick boost to pigskin is nice, it will run out fairly quickly and the more houses you hammer, the more of a nightmare it is to get more.
There are around 40 pig houses on the surface world, and at least 2 touch stones. that gives 96 pig skin. Even if 20 are used by the first winter, at least 15 houses can be made for farms
@@amkamomega I'm not opposed to breaking random pig houses in the middle of nowhere, but you should leave a place like pig king with a bunch of houses close together for convenience's sake.
@@amkamomega Having them all in one place makes getting a lot of pigskin (Via the werepig method, of course) much faster than having to run around the entire map looking for them.
The bug with the moose goose babies is how I lost one of my worlds. I was dealing with like 20 tornado devil children and got stunlocked af and died, LOL then I died again after reviving myself twice, to the devil babies because I couldn’t pick up any of my stuff and at the time I didn’t really know how to dodge them
I had a very strange first expierience with moosegoose she spawned next to my base wich was next to pig king. i killed her thanks to a rock lobster that gave me determination by pointlessly attacking moosegoose but when she died no babies. I ended up getting 4 feathers tho so it wasnt worth it. This was in dont starve RoG.
This is very informative guide, but I just can't do everything SO fast, I'm always spent too mush extra time with running between points, farming resources and stupid staying at one point, cause I forgot what I must to do/coming back, cause I forgot to take, craft, kill smth. Maybe the biggest my problem is spending first 9 days for full edge of main island, but I can't do something, while I don't know the map, I can't choose place for base(but even with map I'm choose it really wrong, so I need to loose half of season for running), can't find a lunar island and else. Also I always do hard clothes like beefalo hat AND blue jacket WITH thermal stone, because I always spent a lot of time out base, but for primal cases. Maybe I'm just too bad in this game...
i'm watching this and i don't think i can do everything at the same speed as well. so i think i will be best to pick and choose things that you want to do for each season, and do the others on your second year
9:17 no it’s sadly just very likely, I have had multiple worlds with zero clockworks so there are exceptions. I do believe though that if you don’t have that setpiece you have a much higher chance of having 2 marble gardens
@@Jakeyosaurus it's most likely a super small chance because of how clunky world gen can be like how I had a world that didnt have any mac tusk at all because the world gen just didn't cooperate.
@@boobaloo9375 It happened to me once, and I felt like I was wasting my time on that world. extra: If you have some luck, you can get a teleport staff(idk the name) from the ruins, wich acts as a walking cane.
this guide is very very old but it still has some of the best tips for surviving don't not watch it just because the new updates have changed things.❤❤
i feel like a bad player, i'm just afraid of killing the bosses! season ones are ok but the others like bee queen, klaus etc just seem too strong (and i've been playing this game for like 4 to 5 years now and just last year i start entering the ruins) oh oh
Small tip- Marble shrubs take 10.5-13.75 days to fully grow to tier 3, and after this they'll take 5-6.5 days to revert back to tier 1. So, once you've planted them, come back around the 14th day to ensure that all are tier 3 for maximum marble gain. Trees are similar but the minimum and maximum time between each tier is quite vast(1.75-4.25 days) so on average plant pinecones 7 days before Deerclops to get most of the trees to tier 3
Jeez and I thought I was an intermediate player. I can easily survive a year but I usually like making a pretty base and making it sufficient (settings all default) but I usually don't go out of my way to kill the freaking dragon fly in the first autumn. Mad lad but imma try to do this and get better eventually
Wow! You rushed the ruins, got to the lunar island and killed dragonfly before winter! And thanks to this guide, I'm soon going to be able to pull this out! Ty very much
Listened to the part where you say you changed starting resources to classic because you don’t like “….” Like 100 times and all I’m hearing is coogie trees
I've amassed over 400 hrs on this game over 6 years and this video makes me feel like suchhh a chump 😅 it usually takes me 10-12 days to get fully geared up for boss fights.
Thanks for the videos! I used the tips in your beginner video to make a solo Wes world (I just like Wes, he's funny ^_^), and actually lived through my first winter despite being hilariously rusty. Might get bold/dumb enough to try a boss with these tips!
For wormwood, you wouldnt actually be able to eat pirogies to heal since wormwood isnt affected by healing foods. I suggest just making some compost wrap which is an item only wormwood can craft. It heals you for 32 health over the span of 32 seconds, and it’s relatively easy to craft.
One thing that I think might help a few people, is to destroy any pig houses that spawn to close to glommer or els get to glommer before the full moon starts, or else it will get killed by wear pigs.
This is the intermediate guide??? Lol. I’m lucky to have half of this stuff crafted by day 50 the way the day/night cycle is…not much time to do anything. Love the game, but as a newer player I just don’t see myself getting anywhere near this caliber, so if this is intermediate then I don’t even wanna know what advanced looks like. Lol. It’s easy to get lost and distracted by everything else going on, then before ya know it, new season.
a tip for wendy players: you can make a base in/near the biome with the flowers and frogs, because you can make meatballs in the crockpot with only 3 butterfly wings and 1 frog leg! if you play wendy a lot, you can know how easy is to get those
I learnt that you killed bosses, and I will prob die to them all. Ok I'm just kidding, but loving these Beginner/Intermediate, will soon watch the next, Great advice!
For base locations, I actually like to base near rocky turf and mosiac biomes simply because you will need a lot of gold when it comes to amulets and science stuff oh, and don’t forget gold tools! You will also need a lot of rocks for protection such as stone walls.
If you’re going into the ruins this early you will have tons of gold. Best base locations will be centered around good portals and a ruins portal, close second is basing in the oasis since fire doesn’t spread there and you don’t have to worry about ice flingos you can also build you pig houses and every farm you want anywhere in the desert without having to worry about it burning. Only downside is the sandstorm during summer but goggles are very easy to fish out, you also have an infinite source of veggies all year round that heal 15 sanity each by simply cooking them over a fire.
“As soon as you see dragonfly start his attack animation” “If dragonfly is moving before she starts her attack animation” Dragonfly switched genders in one sentence
this is a fair way of playing though i like getting a bit more of a base setup in the first season, so that i can worry about ruins and Dfly later rather than having to deal with low basic resources later on edit: also, as a pretty good player, i do like to keep my sanity high because i feel like the grey feeling to the game is so depressing lol
