Razer orange is *supposed to be* tactile lol I guess his accidental labeling of linear is a testament to now crappy they are as a tactile switch

I like the Cherry Grey Tactile and the Gateron Brown. Gotta love the sound of them

Interesting that you're a fan of Gat Clears and didn't like the Novelkeys Kailh Dark Yellows. I'm the opposite, I hate the Gat Clears as they are so light that you just bottom out too quickly and it feels harsh when typing, but the Dark Yellows are so much heavier that they just feel much more comfortable to type on and the feeling of resistance is great when typing. Not so much for gaming though. If you think the Box Dark Yellow is weighty, definitely try out the Novelkeys Kailh Speed Heavy Dark Yellow. Using them on a typing board now with lubed springs and they are amazing. For anyone pro Cherry, grab some testers and do a blind test. Not once did I rate Cherry higher than a Gateron equivilant. As for MX Speeds, the Kailh speeds blow them out the water in both value (like a third of the cost), and smoothness. Lubed Kailh Speed Silvers are fantastic. In fact anyone who loves tactile should definitely also check out the Kailh Speed Copper. The bump is right at the top rather than a bit of the way down the press, and actuation is super high. It's got a nice feel to it. The heavier version of that by Novelkeys, the Speed Heavy Burnt Orange is also really satisfying. For me it's hard to pick a favourite, that's why I just build multiple keyboards and switch them out depending on mood. I currently use lubed Speed Heavy Dark Yellow, lubed Speed Heavy Burnt Orange, Box Navy, Box White and Kailh Box Black on different boards. With also some 80g gold spring Aliazstotles that are waiting to go on the right board for some ultimate customness. I'm now starting to consider switching out the Box Whites for Kailh Speed Silvers though as the board is used for gaming and the clicks are audible when recording videos. All of those switches though I'd highly recommend. My least favourites, or ones I don't recommend are all the Razer switches (seriously they are terrible quality, and incredibly wobbly), all Gateron silents including Zilents, Gat Silent and Aliaz, purely because the bottom out instability is offputting. I build a board with Aliaz switches and I instantly had to sell it as it was too awful, and also all Cherry switches ESPECIALLY if you are wanting linear switches. Cherry switches are incredibly scratchy. If you want linear go Kailh Box linears if you want out the box smoothness without needing to worry about lubing, or Kailh Speeds and Gateron Linears, which are smooth but can be made ultra smooth with a bit of lube. If you want a smooth linear Cherry switch, you need to find a board from the 80s that has MX Blacks on it that is so heavily used that the switches have smoothed down with use.

The keyboard tester is a must for anyone who’s stuck between switches. Little pricey but worth it if you’re open minded about different switches.

I love the sound and feeling of clicky switches but I think that actually typing with them would get old fast with the noise. I'm very sensitive to noise. That being said, I have gateron browns right now and looooove the satisfying "thoc" sound so maybe i would like the clicky.

Yeah, I'll take "None of the above". I've played with many mechanical switches but none can compare to the legendary catastrophically buckling compression column springs found in legendary IBM keyboards like the Model F and the Model M (I'm typing on a Model M right now). You can still get them new from Unicomp and they're just glorious. They make Cherry MX Blues feel like toys. I'd be interested to see you review a Unicomp Classic 103 or 104 keyboard for their feel. Most people think that the buckling springs make "modern" clicky mechanical switches feel cheap and fragile. It's no secret that the IBM/Lexmark/Unicomp keyboards service lives are measured in decades, not in years. There's a reason that the Model M is considered the greatest keyboard ever made and it's definitely not because of its looks. It's not ugly by any means and it's the Model M that invented the keyboard layout that everyone copied from them and still uses. However, unless you get coloured keys for it, it looks very plain. However, the look of a keyboard should be the criterion of least value when choosing what's best for you. The Model M was designed by a team of ten IBM engineers and IBM sunk millions into its development. This is because we're talking about a time before GUIs, before mice. Sure Apple had them but PCs rarely (if ever) did. The old MS-DOS was all about typing and so the quality of a keyboard was paramount. Buckling spring keyboards are easier on the fingers and are essentially indestructible. They're like an industrial or military-grade item. Sure, they don't look like much but there's nothing else in the world that can match them for the feel or durability. That's how quality is truly measured, if you can type on it all day, every day for decades without damaging your fingers and the thing still keeps on going like it did the day you bought it, you know that compared to it, everything else is just pretty crap. When something doesn't look fancy, it's usually because the manufacturer spent all of their money, time and energy into making sure that the ugly duckling was really a swan in disguise.

I think it should be noted that you're citing the weights incorrectly. Apart from Cherry, none of the other manufacturers measure in cN, but rather in grams (g). There's a minor difference between them. Additionally, the weight measurement for the Aliaz, Tealio, and Zealios is measured in a different way. It's also measured in grams, but the weight you cited (the officially provided weight) is bottom out force rather than the actuation force that every other switch cites. The Zeal switches (Tealios, Zealios) don't provide the travel and actuation distance, but I believe that should be the same as the other Gateron switches. Just wanted to clear up some of the stuff you didn't catch or just didn't know. I really like that you're showing these enthusiast switches some love, they really could use more exposure to a mainstream audience.

CN Force: The amount of weight required to press on a key. Actuation: How fast a key press is registered. Travel Distance: How far the key goes when pressed.

My current keyboard contains box jades, speed navies, and a lubed hirose orange. I'd say my favorite switch is jades. Planning on trying box royals though

I love the Gateron Aliaz - 😁👍 The click clacking drives me super crazy. its one of the main reasons I didn't even bother looking at any mechanical keyboard. Until a friend of mine told me that they make silent keys, so she gave me the link to this video.

Gateron/Kalih FTW! They are so much better than Cherrys. Cherrys are scratchy as hell, and have boring types of switches unlike Kalih. Gateron still has more cool types of switches than cherry, but most importantly, they are sooo much smother than them...
