I heard that the difference between culinary and ceremonial grade is actually with culinary they grind the whole leaf, stem and veins which gives it more of a tart, bitter taste and with ceremonial they grind just the leaf part which tastes better and makes it more smooth

Usually ceremonial grade is younger leaves too which gives it more of the natural sweetness

How about the benefits?

ceremonial grade is shaded and culinary they usually skips the steps which also makes them less rich in nutrition

You are completely WRONG. The terms, "Ceremonial Grade", and "Culinary Grade", and anything else of a similar Label Nature, is just MADE UP by whoever put it on their Container. There is NO SUCH THING in JAPAN, as those terms are Completely UNREGULATED by the Japanese Government. Anybody can label their Tea, anything that they want to, and everybody in Japan KNOWS THIS. And now, SO DO YOU. So, just IGNORE those terms. They mean NOTHING. The ONLY REAL Way to Evaluate Matcha, or any other Japanese Tea, is for you to get a Sample of whatever one (or more) you want to Evaluate, Brew it Up, and then do the Usual, Color, Aroma, Texture, Taste, Price, Value, and After Effects evaluation. Many Tea Companies have SAMPLER SETS you can get, with most, if not all, of their Offerings, for You To Try, in the hopes you will like one or more of them, and PLACE AN ORDER, so they Made a SALE. But, you have to ASK. Anyway, just IGNORE those terms. Pretend they don't even EXIST. The ONLY REGULATION that the Japanese Government has on Tea is you MUST use Tea Leaves actually GROWN in your Local Area, if you're going to use it in a product you're going to sell, that's ID'ed as, KYOTO Tea, for example. You CANNOT use Tea Leaves from KAGOSHIMA, for example, in your KYOTO Product, and pretend it's a KYOTO Item, Those days are LONG GONE, and ILLEGAL now. And EVERYBODY Knows that too. So, now, SO DO YOU. v/r "The TEA Spectator" :o)

if you want to keep sifting matcha (or any powder really) without getting it around the glass, instead of shaking the sieve back and forth you can just hold it in place and stir the powder in small circles with the tip of a spoon

I heard that using hot water to mix matcha will make it bitter. the good thing about it is that it does help mix it faster than cold water. I suggest u try experimenting and taste both to see the difference.

You need a matcha bowl that is bigger to whisk and a spoon to help it go thru the strainer

i liked this video! i don't really drink much matcha, but i did help out at a tea ceremony booth once at an event. for actual 茶道, there are a lot more specific rules you have to follow, and the tea is usually served in bowls instead of cups. it's great that you have the bamboo whisk though! btw, the "cha" in chasen and chashaku are both 茶 as in tea!

I believe the Sencha brand is a combination of 1st & 2nd harvest (ceremonial & premium). So technically it’s not consider a culinary matcha. Cheers😊

It does say its 1st and 2nd so I decided to order some for daily drinking tea since most brand name teas are junk and not organic or from Japan. ANY tea from China has found to have as much as 29 pesticides in it including illegally used pesticides.

You should rly try flavored matcha as well. The peach matcha from david's tea soooo good 10/10 would recommend.

What matcha powder do you beilieve starbucks uses .. cant find anywhere ... or maybe a very close comparable matcha i can buy ?
@R3Rou
@R3Rou Год назад
Hi, former Starbucks worker here! You can't really buy the matcha that starbucks uses. The provider specifically makes the matcha powder for Starbucks purposes. If you want an alternative, just use matcha powder and mix it with sugar and milk powder. Not sure what ratio, you'll have to experiment. Afterwards, add that mixture to your choice of milk. At starbucks, we would use the shaker, but save yourself the pain and invest in a frother

Video idea!! So I was thinking about how I usually see matcha drinks with milk/sweeteners so I wonder if the grassy flavor would be as much of an issue with that ~kinda~ covering it. Do you think you can make something along the lines of testing flavors (the different brands) of matcha with lattes or -however you would sweeten/“flavor” your matcha?

I'm new to matcha also. To me "ceremonial" MEANS ceremonial, and is something for special occasions lol. The "Everyday" matcha from Sencha Naturals, (not from Costco) has a blend of 1st & 2nd harvest leaves, so it makes a good, "everyday" option as the name implies. One "hack" I learned from a chef, is that even "culinary" matcha can taste fine as a regular tea if served 'iced," which dials back the extra bitterness. That way you can still get max health benefits, (as adding milk is said to tarnish them.)
@tatianalp2847
@tatianalp2847 8 месяцев назад
I have a question, can culinary matchas still give you the health benefits of matcha? (Antioxidants, l-theanine, cathequines, clean energy, etc..) even if it's in a smaller amount?

Thanks for this information! I personally LOVE the Jade leaf brand❤ unfortunately I also got the Costco bag because it was a good deal but I hate it😂😂. I don’t like to waste stuff so I’m trying to finish the bag, it’s literally taking months!!! Whenever I finish it I’ll go try the more expensive one/ the last one u tried. Thanks again for this video😊

Can you do a double-blindfold test between different american brands (sourced only from Japan) please? E.g. Trader Joes, Jade Leaf, SenCha, etc. And a value comparison between them please?

I drink ceremonial great Matcha at home every day. The way you’re whisking the Matcha is incorrect. You need to whisk in a ball and whisk really fast to create a nice froth on top of the Matcha. The froth makes it really creamy and taste delicious.
@HarrisPilton789
@HarrisPilton789 3 года назад
The matcha will become frothy on top if you use a matcha bowl, instead of a drinking glass.
