I just started doing Oly lifting after years of powerlifting and bodybuilding. This one tough sport that leans hard on technique vs raw strength. I applaud these legends.

Naim Süleymanoğlu, in 1988 Olympics,Snatch was 152.5kg and Clean & Jerk was 190kg (WR) at 60kg and actually it is still WR but due to restructure of weight classes, all records were nullified before 1993

Yes, I think it's sort of silly that many amazing records are "forgotten" because of restructured weight classes--Taranenko and Vardanyan being two others.

Different sport, Zydrunas doesn't have the technique, mobility and explosive power for these kinda lifts, even though he's much stronger.
@deliciousdishes4531
@deliciousdishes4531 4 года назад
Zydrunas is not able to lift a barbell over his head that is as heavy as what people like lasha C&J, probably even snatch. Strength is relative.
@proboz
@proboz 3 года назад
@@deliciousdishes4531 I know this is a year old, but Zydrunas has a log overhead press of 228kg/502lb without the explosiveness of Olympic weightlifting. So yes, Zydrunas has lifted more than Lasha's snatch overhead, doing a very slow, non-explosive movement, with almost no leg drive and pure shoulder strength. Virtually a strict press, at roughly the same bodyweight. Can Lasha do that without the split jerk? You'd be an absolute fool to ever doubt someone like Zydrunas. Different sports, different lifts, but Z is one of the strongest humans to ever walk the planet, across all fields of strength.
@deliciousdishes4531
@deliciousdishes4531 3 года назад
@@proboz log lift is much more like a clean and jerk than a snatch. The first part is even called cleaning the log and you'll see some people doing a jerk to get the log overhead. Lasha's biggest C&J so far is 264kg. I'm not doubting that strongmen are strong. I'm saying if you think that strongmen lifts can make you lift more overhead than Olympic lifts, that's doubting the entire sport of weightlifting. And all its tons and tons of research. Probably no one can match the static strength of strong men. That's the point. Same goes for the explosive strength and technique of weightlifters. It's just different sports.

@ppsh41dude
@ppsh41dude 6 лет назад
Definitely a tough matchup with them competing in different sports. I would have to say they are relatively equal in overhead strength. I would have to give leg strength to Taranenko because of his weighlifting background. Savickas would win in any sort of strongman related activity. It is definitely a hard comparison and I wouldn't be able to make a great comparison. Its like comparing Wilt Chamberlain and Joe Montana, and I would just have to say each is a legendary strength athlete in their own right.
